Property

Updated: 21-Nov-2016
House in Jacobstowe, Okehampton, Mid Devon, England - Quiet Village Location, Ideal Central Position, 10 Minutes From Dartmoor

Old Style Cottage is a delightful cob and thatch farm cottage, which has been carefully restored by the owners to maintain and enhance the original features, such as beams, window seats, the fireplace with its bread oven and thick, crooked walls. The cottage has solid oak floors and stairs, central heating throughout and a living flame gas stove to add to the cosy ambience. You will find all the convenience of a modern kitchen and bathroom, whilst enjoying 17th Century charm. We have used our own experience of staying in holiday cottages to guide us and aim to provide everything the holiday maker could need. Those important little details, such as hooks on the bathroom door, somewhere to put your toilet bags, and all the essentials, like toilet rolls, soap etc are all provided. Heating, towels and linen are included in the price.

About the Owner

We came to Devon on holiday and we loved the area so much that we moved down here in 2006! Old Style Cottage is next door to our cottage, which is such an advantage as we can look after it personally and be on hand to help our guests get the most out of their holiday.

Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

So pleased that we picked Old Style Cottage for our first family holiday. We was greeted by Trish on arrival and shown around the cottage. We were then left to enjoy our holiday knowing that Trish and Stephen were on hand with any queries. The cottage was spotlessly clean, cosy and well equipped with everything you could need. A bottle of wine was also waiting for us as well as tea bags, coffee, sugar and milk for a much needed drink after a long drive.

It was an added bonus to have a cot, highchair and stair gate provided for our baby.

We started every morning with breakfast in the garden before going out to various attractions including Pecorama, Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary, Lydford Gorge, Castle Drogo, Buckland Abbey, National Aquarium and finally a nice drive through Dartmoor National Park. The cottage is perfectly located for days out with something to suit everyone.

We also enjoyed a evening Meal at the New Inn pub just along the road.

If we return to Devon in the future I will have no hesitation in booking to stay in Old Style Cottage again and would recommend it to everyone.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the 9 nights we spent here. The cottage is beautiful, combining warm and cosy old-world charm with every modern convenience. And it is immaculate! Trish and Stephen have thought of everything and they were most welcoming. We would definitely recommend this property and intend to return.

'The Burrow', Exbourne and Jacobstowe's Community shop and Post Office, is close by and is the UK's first underground shop and cafe. It sells locally produced food and crafts.

Okehampton has a wide range of independent shops, 3 supermarkets, a Post Office, cinema, and the usual banks. It also has a modern leisure centre, with a gym, pool, tennis courts, bowling green etc. It is surrounded by a well-kept park, with river walks and a children's playground.

Why not visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life, the Castle, take the Dartmoor Railway to Exeter, or hire a bike and cycle in safety along the Granite Way to the beautiful Lydford Gorge?

Facilities

From the Owner

Our guests really enjoy staying in a 400-year-old thatched cottage while not compromising on modern conveniences and comforts. They comment on the thoughtfulness that we have put into the design of the cottage and appreciate us providing all the little everyday items such as dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls, cling film and so on, and that we send them a list in advance so they know what they don't need to bring!!
