About the property

Villa in Monte San Savino, Arezzo Province, Tuscany, Italy - 2 Miles From Centre Of Monte San Savino, With Many Restaurants And Shops

Eremo is the Italian for hermitage, and this describes well the peace and seclusion of this beautifully restored 17thC country house. The villa is set in 50 acres of parkland, woods, olive groves and vineyards with an avenue of cypress trees, ideal for walking and exploring the hilly countryside. Discover the ancient dry stone walls and search for porcupine quills!

Villa l'Eremo is 2 miles from the walled hill town of Monte San Savino, which has its own exit from the A1 motorway, and is 13 miles from Arezzo, 25 miles from Siena, 50 miles from Florence and 120 miles from Rome. The main house consists of kitchen, sitting/dining, study, utility room, ground floor wash room and three double/twin bedrooms with en suite bath/shower rooms. An Annexe consists of a sitting room with kitchenette, twin bedroom and bathroom. This Annexe has its own front door, and may be part of the main house, or kept separate.

There is an 8m square sun terrace next to a covered 'limonaia' where one may eat al fresco, or under cover in bad weather. The 13m by 5m swimming pool is 100 m from the house. The pool is edged with travertine, and has a 5m shallow end for children.

About Robert Benaim

We are Mr Robert and Mrs Simone Benaim. We live in London but are in love with Italy, and in particular with our Villa l'Eremo. We have restored it from a romantic ruin paying attention to building details and to the quality of materials as if it were our main home. We hope you will appreciate it.

I am a structural engineer, and my wife is an artist. The architect responsible for the restoration of the property is Andre Benaim, my cousin, who lives and practises in Florence, while the Contractor who carried out the restoration is also trained as an architect, and specialises in the restoration of historic churches and ancient monuments.

The four of us made a great team, and it shows in the loving and careful detail of the restoration.

Why Robert Benaim chose Arezzo Area

Monte San Savino is the very best of Tuscany. It is outside the over hyped Chianti Classico, but right in the heart of the natural beauty and artistic heritage of Tuscany.

Arezzo is the 'home' of Piero della Francesca, while we are close to Siena and the extraordinary landscape of the Crete, as well as to Florence and the towns of Southern Tuscany such as Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino. On the slopes of our local extinct volcano, Monte Amiata, there are thermal springs, and beautiful monasteries. There is also a ski slope used every winter (the mountain is 1700m high!). Northwards, we are close to the beautiful towns of Anghiari and Sansepolcro, and to the mountains of the Casentino, again with monasteries such as La Verna.

Within a 2 hour drive, there is Rome, or the seaside.

What makes this villa unique

Villa l'Eremo has a unique blend of privacy and accessibility. As it is located in the heart of our 70 acres of land, there are no visible neighbours or nearby roads to disturb the calm. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of forest, with its deer, wild boars, porcupines hares and other wildlife. However, Monte San Savino, with its many restaurants, banks and services is less than 2 miles away.

There is a wide choice of restaurants serving excellent local food, from pasta and pizzas to the local specialities of porchetta (roast, stuffed suckling pig) and T bone steaks (bistecca fiorentina).

We can also provide a cook if you wish to eat local home cooked food.

Notes on accommodation: The villa is not considered suitable for children younger than 7, due to the stone steps and unprotected walls. The swimming pool is fenced and may be locked. The master bedroom is equipped with a ceiling fan, the other bedrooms with table fans. The main house has underfloor heating, while the Annexe has central heating run from a wood burning stove. The hot water for both the main house and the Annexe is supplied by solar panels, boosted by a gas boiler as necessary. As the villa is at an altitude of 400m, the climate is cooler than the plains. Outside: The villa is set in 50 acres of parkland, woods, olive groves and vineyards. It is ideal for walking and exploring the hilly countryside. Adjacent to the house is an 8m square terrace, for sunbathing in the day, and relaxing at night. There is an ancient domed bread oven, ideal for cooking pizzas or more elaborate meals. Next to the terrace is a covered area with a dining table. Behind the house is an area shaded by mature oaks. The private 13m by 5m swimming pool is 100m from the house, and is equipped with sunshades and recliners. Next to the pool is a shady area. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board, butler's sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included, changed weekly. Maid service, brief tidy up on Tuesday, thorough clean on Saturday. The gardener cleans the pool and checks the water quality twice each week. The house manager can provide cooked meals.

Beautiful, luxurious and quiet place in the middle of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

This place is the perfect place to stay with your family. We stayed here with 7 people and all had our own bathroom! Never experienced so much comfort and luxury before. The property is enormous! There is so much to explore and places to sit and relax (sun and shade).

We really enjoyed making our own pizza's in the oven and watching the stars in the evening.

If you want a comfortable, relaxing holiday with your family and experience the real Tuscany lifestyle, don't look any further and book this villa! I'm sure you will have the time off your life, like we had too.

Thanks Robert for letting us stay in your villa!

Small note: the wifi is not working really good in the villa but there's a really good working free wifi in Monte San Savino (10 min drive) ( http://www.monteturismo.it/en/informations/our-history/8-informazioni/169-wifi-free-in-inner-city-of-monte-san-savino.html )

Perfect Italian Villa

  • 5 of 5

We have fallen in love with the Eremo. We first rented this property in May 2011 when the restoration was completed, and we have returned each year since! The house itself has been beautifully brought back to life. The owners approached the restoration as a home to be lived in, and the architectural and artistic details evoke a cozy, intimate Italian villa in a beautiful setting. As a previous reviewer said, it is so peaceful that we are immediately relaxed. Each person who has joined us, whether family or friends, has experienced this same peace. The grounds are expansive, with walking opportunities through the surrounding woods, or simply lingering by the pool. Monte San Savino is just over the hill behind the property, with Lucilla's wonderful restaurant, ceramic shopping, and easy access to the A1. The owners are very attentive in ensuring all is in proper order, and the caretakers are wonderfully friendly and helpful. We have stayed at the Eremo in different seasons, and each time has been perfect. We cannot wait until our next return to the Eremo!

Wonderful Family Experience

  • 5 of 5

We travelled to this beautiful house with our large family of teenagers this year and all I can say is that we were not disappointed! The house was stunning and spacious, tastefully renovated and furnished with antiques, easily accommodating our large crew of teenagers. We spent many happy summer evenings eating wonderful meals outside on the terrace, spotting shooting stars, making pizzas in the pizza oven and just chatting with our children. As the previous reviewer described, each room has its own stunning bathroom, so mornings were easy and relaxed. We the parents were delighted to find that we had our own private terrace overlooking the hills so coffee in the morning or a late evening drink was spent in blissful peace! The nearby town of Monte San Savino is a real pleasure with some wonderful trattorias, restaurants and cafes serving beautiful fresh food and gorgeous Chianti wines. All in all a very relaxing and successful holiday, we look forward to returning next year!

Highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as our family of six arrived at Villa L'Eremo I could feel everyone start to relax - the place is so peaceful and yet only a few miles from the village, where you can get all that you need for the holiday. The large grounds surrounding the villa give a feeling of seclusion and the area is wonderfully quiet. Villa L'Eremo has been lovingly and artistically restored with much attention to detail. The large and well equipped kitchen was a delight to work in and we loved using the pizza oven. The ensuite bathroom to each bedroom made mornings easy and relaxed with noone waiting for the bathroom. Make sure you eat at the restaurant of Lucilla (the house manager) in Monte San Savino - and order her husband's home made ravioli - heavenly! We have had many holiday's over the years - the one at Villa L'Eremo was one of the very best.
