Dacre Garth is a well-equipped Barn Conversion in the heart of Cumbria comfortably sleeping 8. The detached barn has been awarded a ‘Gold’ award and ‘Families Welcome’ rating for the past 7 years. The Barn is particularly suited for family use with 4 bedrooms, a ‘secret mouse hole’, play room and snug, in addition to the main family rooms.It is located in the centre of the village of Stainton on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Just 5 minutes from the M6 and A66, travelling to all parts of Cumbria and the Pennines is easy without the delays of central Lake District traffic in the peak holiday period. Ullswater, one of the beautiful quieter lakes of the Park, is only a 5 minute drive. Similarly Penrith, a small market town with the full range of shops, gift shops, restaurants and takeaways is 10 minutes drive; Keswick, a fifteen minute drive to the West

We have just finished our week's holiday at your lovely house. It has to have been one of the best self-catering places we've ever stayed at. My three grandsons were enchanted by the mousehole. But even without that it was a lovely place and so many thoughtful touches. Have been to the Lakes many times over the years yet never visited Stainton which proved an ideal centre. My thanks to you for a great holiday.



With 2 members of our party under 6, the hidden play-loft was a fantastic surprise. We loved the social space in the kitchen



We have lots of happy memories of our lovely holiday in the Lakes and will always remember Dacre Garth with great pleasure. It's so beautiful and comfortable. Many sincere Thanks again for everything!”

Beautiful, spacious cottage!

On arrival we received a complimentary pack of treats, which gave our holiday a very good start. The cottage was much more spacious than expected for 8 people we had lots of space and enjoyed hanging out in the communal areas. Next to the cottage is a pub wnich does delicious home-made food. Also down the road is a restaurant which does amazing food too! My friends and I explored the waterfalls near Ullswater which I would highly recommend doing. Overall we had a great time at this cottage in a good location and lots of lovely places to eat. Would definitely return!

An ideal location

We booked a last minute break at Dacre Garth. It was just 2 of us for 2 nights and additional family for the 3rd. The cottage was ideal for small and larger groups - very well maintained (inc new carpets) and a good flow of hot water. Kitchen was very well equipped.

The barn conversion gives character

Location is ideal for Ullswater/Penrith, and easy to get to being a few minutes from the M6

Perfect Holiday Home

A great property for a family holiday - with any age of children! Great location for exploring the Eastern side of the Lake District - with some hidden gems to the East of Ullswater, as well as an awesome route up to Hellvellyn via Striding Edge. And then the perfect place to come home, relax in the deep tub and sink a pint or two in front of the fire ...

A truly wonderful stay

This was our first visit to Dacre Garth and it won't be our last. We knew from the pictures it looked a beautiful place to stay however when we walked in it was even better than we had imagined. The welcome was wonderfully warm with tea, coffee and biscuits set out tougher with a fruit. The layout of Dacre Garth left us wanting for nothing at all, it is beautifully decorated with gorgeous mood lighting, spacious with hideaways and tremendous character. The location is perfect with many amenities close by and yet it is so peaceful and quiet so we could get away and leave the world behind us for a few days and enjoy the delights of the Lake District. Dreams do indeed come true.
