About the Owner
About Iain Gauld
semi retired farmers holiday home on loch ness . We used to visit loch ness regularly and when this property came on the market we snatched the opportunity to own this beautiful house and view. When not rented out we take every chance to relax and explore the wonderful countryside surrounding this property.
Iain Gauld purchased this house in 2010
Why Iain Gauld chose Scottish Highlands & Islands
Apart from exploring the immediate surrounding area it is a great base to explore further north and the beautiful unspoiled west coast all of which is in easy driving time from foyers and enables us to return same day. It is easily accessible by air road or rail from inverness it sits in a prominent vantage point to take full benefit of the panoramic views out over loch ness to the mountains beyond. watch out for the northern lights around february march time. you might also see the famous inhabitant of the loch.there is also the opportunity to observe wildlife in abundance and near by is loch ruthven which welcomes the slovonian greib annually.
What makes this house unique
There are numerous benefits to renting this property from just chilling out to exploring, fishing, golfing, walking, 4x4 experience can be arranged as can other activities.

Amazing stunning property a beautiful location
The perfect place to getaway from it all. The house is beautiful and had everything you need just like home from home with loads of space for 6 and ample parking so peaceful with stunning views over the Loch and lovely walks. I see others had mentioned wi fi but I recieved all my emails ok any way it is only a few minutes walk to the local hotel or cafe if you cant get it in the house or bring a dongle. overall brilliant.
Stunning peaceful and private
Stunning location, very peaceful and very private, a true get away from it all location. House was clean and comfortable with a good flow to it Just loads of room for all six adults allowing everyone to have there own bit of space. Clean spacious comfortable tranquil with stunning views.
Owner very helpful and suggested different places to eat.
If you need a large supermarket shop then do a Tesco home delivery otherwise the local shop and cafe cater for everyday needs.
Would love this place as my very own country retreat.
Beautiful house in a stunning location.
This the third time we have stayed at the house and we have always found the property to be pristine and well prepared.
The house is very comfortable with fantastic views which always make the stay memorable. Massive kitchen and the layout of the house is well thought out. The owners always check with us that everything was OK on our visit, which is a nice touch.
The surrounding area has a lot of nice walks and the village cafe does a great breakfast. We went to local pub to eat a few times and the place was friendly with good food.
The house is well looked after and we plan to visit again next year.
Overall the property was lovely. Views were great and it was very peaceful - just what we wanted. We walked around the area a lot and only had a 10 minute walk to get to the loch itself we had a great time down there.
We had to drive everywhere but there was so much to do within an hours drive so it wasn't too bad and the views made the journeys seem very quick.
There was no wifi and barely any phone signal which to be fair didn't bother us as it's nice to get a break from our phones but a welcome pack in the property would have been helpful because we couldn't just jump on the Internet to find postcodes or places to go.
Also there were 7 of us booked in so one of us had to sleep on the sofa bed, which was fine only there was no spare bedding left out for this bed.
Also the cleaning was abit hit and miss. Cobwebs in the Windows, very stained carpets, stains up the kitchen cupboards and the hot tub wasn't the cleanest.
Nothing too major but for the price of the place you would expect these things to be clean and would expect enough bedding for the number of people booked in.
We had to take a trip to the medical centre and the staff there were incredible, so very helpful!
We would stop again. The property is in such a beautiful spot and we did really enjoy our stay. Booking was easy and the owner was very helpful too.
Lovely home, few issues
We spent 3 nights at this house approximately two weeks ago. The home itself is lovely, and the views are beautiful. We came to the area to explore, as we have spent 25 years visiting Dunkeld (Perthshire) and were ready to see other parts of Scotland without long drives. Unfortunately, this house really is in the middle of nowhere. Sitting on the SE side of Loch Ness, you have to drive at least an hour to get to the other side. The roads are narrow, often 1-lane, with passing places for long distances. The farthest we were able to go was to Glen Affric, which is a 2 hour drive. I cannot imagine attempting to spend a meaningful amount of time in Skye with this house as your base. But, this was really our issue, as we obviously had access to maps before booking.
Here were the real issues:
We used the hot tub on the 2nd night, and there was so much chlorine in it that it stung our eyes terribly just sitting in it, and bleached my swimsuit to ruin. I emailed Iain about this a week ago and have not heard back. Other people who rent properties with hot tubs assure me they have the chemicals tested after every tenant leaves. This clearly did not happen for us.
The beds were also quite hard, and the bedding well worn. Perhaps this is common in the UK, but the double bed was too hard for me to sleep on (and too small for my husband and me, as we are accustomed to a king). Unfortunately, there was no other bedding in the house for me to use to sleep on the pull-out sofa, or the big black sofa in the living area. I ended up using the comforter off the double bed, folded in half, leaving my husband with just a small blanket which we found on the floor in a closet. Insufficient.
There is no wifi or cell phone service, which would have been fine if there had been a guest book or something with recommendations for restaurants, grocery stores, etc. We were told by the people at the pub up the hill (where the food is mediocre, but they do have wifi) that the closest place to shop for groceries was Inverness, over 30 minutes away. However, the Waterfall shop had everything we needed (just breakfast basics). Other than the pub at the hotel (which keeps its thermostat at about 90 degrees F- wear short sleeves!), there doesn't seem anywhere else within reasonable driving distance to go for dinner.
Needless to say, we were a bit disappointed in our stay.
Luxury holiday home
Its a modern, comfortable home in the middle of nowhere, with fantastic views of Loch Ness. Stayed for 4 nights. We were really impressed with the house. great facilities and plenty of space. The hot tub was a highlight. Highly recommended. The owner was friendly and helpful.
