About the property

Water Meadows, Old Coach House

Both cottages have their own private and secure gardens, set in a quiet location on the edge of Maiden Newton a rural village in the heart of West Dorset’s “Hardy country” and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is ample off road parking, we are dog and family friendly, and each cottage has it's own covered all year round hot tub.

We are only 9 miles from the historic county town of Dorchester, and ideally placed to explore Dorset's spectacular countryside and the Jurassic coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site. Weymouth and Lyme Regis are only a short drive away and there are buses and trains connecting with Dorchester, Weymouth, Yeovil and Bath.

The village stores, a friendly local pub and French restaurant are within five minutes walk, and there are many stunning countryside walks on our doorstep.

Water Meadows Cottage has two bedrooms each with it's own en suite shower room, LCD TV and doors leading to a private patio. One bedroom has a king-size bed the other can be made up with a super-king-size bed or two single beds. There is a put-up bed available on request for a fifth guest. The lounge has a comfortable corner suite seating five and a 50" LCD TV with DVD player. There is a small but well equipped kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and all the utensils you need. The dining area has an oak table with leather chairs seating four, and display unit with books, games and local information. The accommodation is all on one level.

About Mark Butcher

Hi I'm Mark, my wife Karen and I have lived in Maiden Newton since 2004 running a small architectural practice from home. We enjoy walking with our dog in this beautiful part of Dorset, motorbiking around the quite country lanes and running our two holiday cottages.

Mark Butcher purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mark Butcher chose Maiden Newton

Maiden Newton is in the middle of West Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), surrounded by some of England’s most picturesque countryside.

Despite such a beautiful location Maiden Newton is a genuine working rural village and is not overrun with tourist in the summer months like many of our more better know neighbours. We have a friendly local pub, French restaurant, fish and chip shop, railway station and everything else you might need in the village.

What makes this cottage unique

We are on the edge of the village enjoying space and privacy whilst only 5 minutes walk from the local shop, pub and railway station.

A great cottage with everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant stay at the Old Coach House. It is well laid out to a high standard where attention is paid to detail. The cottage is furnished to a higher than average level and is well equipped with all you need. We loved the hot tub that could be used all year round and in all weathers. The location is good for exploring the Jurassic Coast and the Dorset Countryside and there are some good dog walks within walking distance of the cottage. All in all a perfect set up, so many thanks to Karen who made us feel so welcome.

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Three adults and three dogs stayed for a long weekend - and we had a great time, with plenty of room for all. The cottage has been finished to a high standard and is very well equipped with all modern appliances. The log burner was very good and wood was in plentiful supply A nice touch was the fact that provision had been made for the dogs in the form of treats and towels, with a hose outside for muddy animals and boots. We will definitely be booking again.

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

The property had everything we needed, it was comfortable, in a convenient position to explore the area and the owners very accommodating. The little things like tea, coffee and milk on arrival for us and a pot of dog biscuits and two chews for the other member of the family was appreciated. All furniture and fittings were clean, comfortable and up to date. After walking for miles coming back and relaxing there was a treat. Would recommend to others with a dog, there is even a train station in the village with links to Weymouth, took the strain out of parking there for the day.

Beautiful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 5 days in this beautiful cottage with our 2 pet dogs. The downstairs is modern, comfy and has everything you would need for a relaxing quite break.

The upstairs bedroom is spacious and has a lovely Queen Size bed, which is also very comfy. I really cannot fault this cottage in any way.

It is in easy reach of the coast and has local walks where we could take our dogs. The walk to Cattistock along the river with a pub at the destination is well worth a visit

We would definitely use this cottage again. Many thanks

David & Deborah
