About the property

Water Meadows, Old Coach House

Both cottages have their own private and secure gardens, set in a quiet location on the edge of Maiden Newton a rural village in the heart of West Dorset’s “Hardy country” and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is ample off road parking, we are dog and family friendly, and each cottage has it's own covered all year round hot tub.

We are only 9 miles from the historic county town of Dorchester, and ideally placed to explore Dorset's spectacular countryside and the Jurassic coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site. Weymouth and Lyme Regis are only a short drive away and there are buses and trains connecting with Dorchester, Weymouth, Yeovil and Bath.

The village stores, a friendly local pub and French restaurant are within five minutes walk, and there are many stunning countryside walks on our doorstep.

Water Meadows Cottage has two bedrooms each with it's own en suite shower room, LCD TV and doors leading to a private patio. One bedroom has a king-size bed the other can be made up with a super-king-size bed or two single beds. There is a put-up bed available on request for a fifth guest. The lounge has a comfortable corner suite seating five and a 50" LCD TV with DVD player. There is a small but well equipped kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and all the utensils you need. The dining area has an oak table with leather chairs seating four, and display unit with books, games and local information. The accommodation is all on one level.

About Mark Butcher

Hi I'm Mark, my wife Karen and I have lived in Maiden Newton since 2004 running a small architectural practice from home. We enjoy walking with our dog in this beautiful part of Dorset, motorbiking around the quite country lanes and running our two holiday cottages.

Mark Butcher purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mark Butcher chose Maiden Newton

Maiden Newton is in the middle of West Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), surrounded by some of England’s most picturesque countryside.

Despite such a beautiful location Maiden Newton is a genuine working rural village and is not overrun with tourist in the summer months like many of our more better know neighbours. We have a friendly local pub, French restaurant, fish and chip shop, railway station and everything else you might need in the village.

What makes this cottage unique

We are on the edge of the village enjoying space and privacy whilst only 5 minutes walk from the local shop, pub and railway station.

Superb Property in Lovely Quiet Location

  • 5 of 5

The Old Coach House is a beautiful property that is pristine and gorgeous yet comfortable and welcoming at the same time. It has anything you may need during your stay and everything is of a very high quality. The owners are warm and welcoming and have thought of everything including treats for the dog! The property and the owners are are exceptional. The area is very quiet. There are lots of lovely walks and there are route maps for some in the welcome folder. If you are self catering there is a nice village shop and a well stocked Spar shop/fuel station, and the bustling town of Dorchester is a 15-20 min drive away.

However if you are like us and went for a short break and were treating ourselves to only having breakfast in the house, then you need to plan a bit as there are some quirks with the opening/closing times of various places. If you want to eat on a Sunday night you may want to go into Dorchester for a take-away as the local pubs don't serve food in the evening and the pubs we went into in Dorchester don't either. We got an excellent Chinese take-away (the menu for which is also in the welcome folder)! The food in the local pub, The Chalk & Cheese was lovely, it was fresh, tasty and good value (and they're dog friendly). The Fox & Hounds in Cattistock is also a bit of a revelation. We had heard good things about it but weren't sure we had the right place when we walked in. It is very 'traditional' and quite dark inside, but the food was excellent and the locals (and visitors) warm and friendly. The location of the Old Coach House may be quiet but it is an easy drive to wonderful coastal towns and glorious countryside.

We were also unfortunate enough to have a problem with our car and had wonderful help from 'Richard Read Recovery' based on the edge of the village.

Lovely people, lovely place. Highly recommended.

Attention to detail, top-notch, kitchen, absolutely everything you could think of, bed, AMAZING! Never had so much room and so comfy! Even the dog, again, treats, towels even a bed! Really enjoyed the hot tub to! Lovely area for great walks, would recommend walk to and hounds about 20mins, bit rustic but great welcome great food and great cider! All in all would highly recommend x

Lovely luxury cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lovely location, parking and great facilities. Cottage done out extremely well and the hot tub was a complete bonus. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom warm and well sized. Kitchen was extremely well equipped and we had everything we needed to cook a huge Christmas Dinner. Lovely relaxing place to stay with a touch of luxury.

Note: We thought we had booked the larger cottage next door so make sure you check you have selected the correct one as the page advertises both! Luckily the sofa bed was fine for our daughter and she loved the fact that it came with a hot tub

Delightful home from home.

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a splendid week in Dorset and The Old Coach House made a perfect base for exploring the area. The property was extremely well furnished and spotlessly clean. Everything we needed for our self catering holiday was there. Even four legged guests are welcome. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the house and hope to be able to return in the future,
