About Mark Butcher

Hi I'm Mark, my wife Karen and I have lived in Maiden Newton since 2004 running a small architectural practice from home. We enjoy walking with our dog in this beautiful part of Dorset, motorbiking around the quite country lanes and running our two holiday cottages.

Mark Butcher purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mark Butcher chose Maiden Newton

Maiden Newton is in the middle of West Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), surrounded by some of England’s most picturesque countryside.

Despite such a beautiful location Maiden Newton is a genuine working rural village and is not overrun with tourist in the summer months like many of our more better know neighbours. We have a friendly local pub, French restaurant, fish and chip shop, railway station and everything else you might need in the village.

What makes this cottage unique

We are on the edge of the village enjoying space and privacy whilst only 5 minutes walk from the local shop, pub and railway station.

The Perfect Place to relax on Holiday!

  • 5 of 5

This property is perfectly maintained and in a very central location for where we wanted to be in Dorset. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed, including a family area, kitchen and dining, laundry, two bedrooms and roll away bed. Mark and Karen had provided us with information about many beautiful walks, local eateries and attractions which made our stay simpler and more enjoyable. It was the perfect place for us and can't wait to return.

Hidden gem; fantastic getaway

  • 5 of 5

We would highly recommend the Water Meadows Cottage for a base to explore Dorset. The cottage is spacious, comfortable beds (which is good for a bad back) and the hot tub was an added bonus even in Feb. The garden is a lovely place to relax and our Mini Schnauzer loved exploring the garden which was fully enclosed. The information given about walks in the area and where to eat was perfect. The local pub (Chalk & Cheese) was a hidden gem. The locals were welcoming and great for giving advice of where to visit and walk away from the usual tourist places. We loved our 3-night stay at the cottage and are now trying to decide when to visit again.

Great cottage, lovely get away.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in water meadows cottage December 16th - 23rd 2017.

Cottage is set in a great village with great local pubs / shops and walks within a 5 minute walk.

When we arrived we were met by Karen who showed us around the extremely clean and well presented cottage and answered any questions we had.

The garden was great for the dogs and Karen and Mark also agreed to let our dogs out during the day while we went to longleat zoo.

The hot tub clean and heated up quickly so always warm when needed.

The cottage had a good size tv, comfy sofa and beds and was extremely quiet during the evenings.

Was a great week and would definitely visit again next year around Christmas time.

No complaints at all.

Excellent cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in a great location for sight seeing around Dorset. The village setting is ideal for easy walking to shops, cafe and a great local pub. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything needed when self catering. It is very family friendly and the hot tub is a fantastic addition. The owners were very welcoming and provided lots of information about the surrounding area. Would definitely recommend Water Meadows Cottage.
