About the Owner

We have been walking in the Lake District since 2005 and no two walks are alike. We are always delighted and surprised by the views and the seasons, in all kinds of weather (including horizontal hail)!

We hope you love the Lakes and the cottage as much as we do. Happy holidays!

From the Owner

Keswick is a gem of a market town and in 2007 we bought our little cottage by the River Greta, honeymooning there that winter. A traditional Lakeland cottage, it is homely and comfortable. It is perfect for walkers and families of upto 4. The walk up Latrigg is only 5 minutes from the cottage, and you don't need a car once you're at the cottage - a number of local buses run all round the year and Keswick town is a 10-minute walk away.

Activity and Interests

Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool airports are within 3 hours drive of Keswick. By car: From M6 jct 40 take the A66 to Keswick. Take first turn off signed for Keswick. Turn right down hill towards town centre. Lydia's Cottages are almost opposite 'The Twa Dogs' inn.

By train: Penrith is the nearest station, 16 miles away. The X5 bus runs hourly, every day, from Penrith train station to outside the Twa Dogs Inn. Cloverleaf taxis is a wheelchair-friendly taxi service in Penrith train station.

Keswick is the perfect base for walking, fishing, cycling, lake-based and river-based activities, and for families with very young children as well as adventurous teenagers. The Town Hall, within 10 minutes' walk of the cottage, doubles up as the town's Information Centre.

Further Details:

There is a petrol station a few minutes walk away with a large Londis shop. Perfect for popping out for milk and a newspaper in the morning, as well as for a larger shop to cook the family dinner.

We recommend Booths supermarket in town - they sell local produce of excellent quality.

From the Owner

The River Greta runs at the back of the cottage, and is always full of interest. We have a local heron that fishes in the river, and the aspect of the river changes with the season (a rushing torrent in winter, and low and mellow in summer with lots of boulders showing above the waterline). The patio overlooking the river is perfect for tea and cake, or a meal, when the weather is warm.
