Cottage in Hawes, Wensleydale, Yorkshire Dales, England - Peaceful And Private Location, Yet Only 3 Minutes Walk From Shops, Restaurants And Pubs

This spacious cottage sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms and there is further accommodation (a twin bedroom and double sofa-bed) available in the beautiful self-contained fully equipped annex at an additional cost of £250 pw. The large secure garden and easy walking access to Hawes make this lovely cottage ideal for families (though sorry, no dogs permitted). If you are interested please call me first on 0781 6888314 or send a question via the web-site (if you book through the web-site you will be charged an additional admin fee!).

The garden (which also has a paved patio) is south east facing and perfect for BBQs and outdoor dining - help yourselves to fruit from the orchard! The cottage is at the end of a terrace of 6 houses all built for the family of a local engineer in the 19th century. The house is full of period features and character and is very well equipped for your comfort.

Hawes is in the heart of the stunning Yorkshire Dales and is an ideal location for a walking or cycling holiday (the Tour de France passed by our street!). We provide a wide range of walking maps. Nearby there are lots of attractions in Hawes including the Countryside museum, Wensleydale Creamery and a large children's playground. Hardraw Force (waterfall) is also within easy walking distance. We provide a cycle rack for up to 5 cycles and these may be stored in the locked conservatory.

We have rented out holiday cottages in Wensleydale for over 10 years and have enjoyed providing welcoming accommodation for holidaymakers many of whom return year after year.

This cottage is particularly special with its lovely private garden and separate orchard. We now also offer our recently converted annexe accommodation which is available for an extra cost of £250 per week for those parties requiring additional space (the annexe has a further lounge, large bathroom, kitchen, twin beds and a double sofa bed). All on one level, the annex is particularly suitable for anyone who has difficulty with stairs.

What makes this cottage unique

Amazing views from most rooms. Spacious accommodation. Off street parking for 3 cars (parking can be an issue around Hawes). 5 minute level stroll to shops, pubs and restaurants.

Mr & Mrs C: We have stayed in this special cottage several times. Every season brings different delights - from cosy log fires and welcoming Rayburn in winter, to the field of bouncing lambs in spring and sunbathing (yes, you heard that right!) in the private garden in summer and the fun of wet / dry / wet barbeques in early autumn. Off road parking space for several cars is a great benefit in Hawes - the village centre is an easy stroll.

CS & BS: This cottage is brilliant for kids as there is lots of space for playing games and running around. There is a mini tent, some toys and a cute rocking lamb! The kitchen is really well equipped and the beds are the amazing! The en-suite in the master bedroom has a really good, big, shower. We will definitely come back!

Notes on accommodation: The cottage is spacious, warm, well equipped and full of character with antique furniture. This is somewhere you can really relax in peace and quiet (though we do provide a guitar and piano!). Very child friendly - large conservatory leads into private secure garden. Wonderful views from all main rooms. I'm afraid we do not allow dogs at this property. Note that the house bathroom and kitchen are a little dated, but cosy and functional! Outside: This cottage is very special with a private, secure garden (with additional patio area) and plenty of off-road parking. A BBQ, outdoor furniture and toys are supplied and croquet can be played on the lawn. Utility Room: Iron & ironing board, high chair & cot stored in built in cupboard in master bedroom. Outdoor BBQ equipment stored in garden shed near patio. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property cleaned between guests. Bed linen provided, but guests are requested to bring their own towels. Other: Large conservatory leading from Living room into garden.

Another Great visit

You cannot beat this property, for convenience and position. A short walk into Hawes, Hardraw force a short walk across the fields. A great place to stay if you enjoy walking, as plenty of treks on your doorstep.

The property has everything you need comfy beds, great views across the dale, nice and cosy whatever the weather . We had 3 children and they loved it, especially the gardens and games room.

Een gezellig en ruim huis in een prachtige, typisch Engelse omgeving

Twee weken lang verbleven wij met onze drie dochters in Hawes, centrum van National Park Yorkshire Dales. Hawes is een aantrekkelijk, levendig plaatsje, waar je alles wat je nodig hebt kunt kopen. Het huisje ligt net buiten Hawes, het heeft een heerlijke tuin met een prachtig uitzicht én een ruime serre, die je het gevoel geeft dat je ook als je binnen bent nog in contact staat met buiten, met de natuur. Wij hebben in de nabije omgeving en iets verder weg prachtige wandelingen gemaakt. Je kunt ze zo zwaar en lang maken als je zelf wilt. Onderweg kom je weinig mensen tegen. Wel heel veel schapen, hele kleine en grotere watervallen, talloze muurtjes en in de meeste dorpjes vindt je ook een pub waar je even kunt bijkomen. Aanbevolen als je niet op zoek bent naar vertier en massa's mensen.

Comfortable house, peaceful spot, lovely view

The listing description was a good description of the property, it was very easy to find when we arrived in Hawes. The facilities are pretty good and I have never stayed anywhere that had such an aladdin's cupboard full of cooking ingredients for the use of occupants (with the proviso of replacing anything used up). The conservatory was a lovely place to sit in the evenings as it seemed to store the day's warmth and has a lovely outlook. The beds were amazingly comfortable, the 13.5 tog duvets were a bit too warm given the lovely weather we experienced so we had to remove them, no doubt at a cold time of year they would be wonderful.

The owner is a very friendly lady, who was very happy to answer any questions I had when booking the property and covered all the details of staying in the house very thoroughly in an email to me before we set off.

I would be very happy to recommend this property to a friend or relative.

One of our party is a vegetarian, Hawes has two restaurants which offer not only excellent food, but good vegetarian options as well, we ate at both - the White Hart Country Inn and Crockett's Hotel and restaurent, both offered a choice of three vegetarian dishes on their menus. When staying in Grassington last year, we found eating out quite a challenge as some places offered no vegetarian option at all. Another good place to eat is the Wensleydale Pantry, the food is amazing value for money.

We visited Gayle Mill, and found it very interesting to hear of its history and Snaizeholme red squirrel sanctuary (either go byLittle White Bus or book a parking space through the National Park Centre at the station), the marked trail is a very enjoyable walk and you are very likely to see red squirrels (we saw 7 or 8).

We also took a train ride from Settle to Garsdale and back, a lovely trip through beautiful countryside and not expensive.

Aysgarth falls is a beautiful place to go, try the scones or cakes in the cafe at the National Park Centre - they are delicious. From Aysgarth you can walk to Castle Bolton (or drive if you prefer), the castle is a very interesting place to look around and has an excellent cafe.

I could go on, there are so many lovely places to visit a walk around and in Hawes, it makes a great centre for a visit to the Yorkshire Dales.

All the comforts of home, great stay all round!

A lovely cottage with a lot of character and everything you could possibly need! I had the pleasure of staying here with my partner over Christmas and we were impressed with not only the beauty of the property and the surrounding area, but also with how much it felt like home. It was well stocked with all our kitchen/entertainment needs and as such we found that we were never bored and never without something we needed. The local pubs and shops were fantastic and the countryside provided lots of walking opportunities. The extra personal touches around the cottage made our stay very memorable and truly enjoyable. Thank you so much!

2nd visit to an outstanding cottage

This is our second visit to this cottage and we will be back again. An absolutely beautiful location and property. Such a well maintained interior and gardens, it is difficult to leave as we felt so much at home. The beds are the comfiest ever ! The cottage is incredibly comfortable with everything you might need to have an excellent holiday. Everywhere was spotlessly clean inside and because it was good weather we were able to enjoy the very well maintained gardens. We ate at a pub in Hawes a couple of times but preferred to stay in and take advantage of the lovely kitchen and eat in. The welcome pack was a lovely touch - there is no such thing as too much Wensleydale cheese! I would recommend this property happily - but book early to avoid disappointment.

Hawes is around 60 miles from both the west and east coast. However, there is a small beach at Semerwater lake just 3 miles away and plenty of nearby streams to paddle in.


Durham Tees Valley Airport, Darlington approximately 1 hour.

Leeds Bradford Airport approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

There is a train station at Garsdale (5 miles from the cottage) where trains are met by "the little white bus" which goes to Hawes and Gayle.


The pretty market town of Hawes has several visitor attractions in addition to numerous shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Further afield there is much to explore in Wensleydale and throughout North Yorkshire; from the historic Bolton Castle (10 miles) with its maze and tea room, to the waterfalls of Aysgarth (8 miles) and Hardraw Force (1 mile) and the romance of the North York Moors steam trains. For children a pre-booked visit to the Forbidden Corner in Middleham (15 miles) is recommended.

2) We have recently refurbished an adjoining annexe. This can only be let along with the main house providing additional accommodation at a fixed price of £250. The annexe is like a little bungalow (twin beds, wet-room, kitchen / diner and separate living area - ideal for guests requiring level access.

3) Short stays:
We prefer to let this property for full weeks, though short lets will be considered outside peak periods (with a minimum charge of £250).
