About Christine and Neil Finch

Hello, we are Christine and Neil Finch. We purchased La Hallotiere in February 2013. We previously lived in Carshalton, Surrey.

We took early retirement from our jobs, Neil was a London Fireman and Christine worked in Oncology. We consider ourselves very lucky indeed to have found a property in such a beautiful place. We fell in love with the wonderful views the property has, and the peace and quiet after such busy lives in London.

We are very proud of our gites, please look at our website and you will see from our reviews from our guests that it is indeed a very special place.

It is an ideal location for Neil to pursue his love of motor bikes as the roads are so smooth and quiet.

We also love the good food and wine!

Christine and Neil Finch purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Christine and Neil Finch chose Le Mesnil-Gilbert

This is a brilliant base from which to visit the many and varied attractions of Normandy, WW2 sites, the Bayeux Tapestry, Mont St. Michel.

Our heated pool is very popular with our guests, especially after a day out visiting one of the sites.

Colombage has its own private garden for you to have BBQ's which we provide or just sit and read or look at the wonderful view.

What makes this cottage unique

We hope you like the look of our site, we fell in love with the views and peace and quiet, and of course we enjoy sitting in the garden in the evening with a glass of wine and sampling the French cheeses.

Great Little Find

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4 (children aged 5 and 3) and had a fantastic week in Le Gite. We spent a couple of days out - trips to Mt St Michel and the beach, as well as some well-earned relaxing time at the gite, which meant the children were in and out of the pool and also making the most of the huge grassy grounds.

Would recommend to a family, or a group of families as there are 3 gites on the 1 site.

Super Place

  • 5 of 5

This was a super place for our family. Neil and Christine were great hosts.

We used the pool everyday and visited lots of places. The zoo at Champrepus, St.Mont Michel, and the beaches. The stone house is lovely and has everything you need.

Le Gite

  • 5 of 5

If you want countryside peace and quiet but with all amenities still available then La Hallotiere is the place for you. It couldn't be more perfect to get away from it all. Christine and Neil are great hosts and gave us plenty of ideas re where to go and what to see. When we just wanted to chill, the pool was just the place to laze by and the gite itself had everything we could need to eat sleep and relax, as well as being clean and we'll furnished. When your hungry and do not want to cook, there is a wide range of excellent eateries of all sorts just a short drive away. We will certainly be back to recharge the batteries as soon as we can.

On arrival we found Le Gite to be welcoming, clean and exactly as expected. The kitchen had everything and more provided to make stay comfortable, luckily the weather was so gorgeous that most meals were cooked on BBQ and eaten outside, taking in the beautiful views of the countryside. The grounds surrounding the gites were well maintained, as was the swimming pool area, which we used at some point most days. The croquet lawn was an added bonus and good fun. We found Neil and Christine to be wonderful hosts, whose local knowledge of days out and places to eat were most welcome. We saw them every day tending to the gardens or pottering and they were always willing to stop and have a chat and generally took an interest in what we were doing and where we were going, offering advice when required. We visited several places, including St Mont Michel, the Cascades at Mortain, followed by dinner at Le Abbey (highly recommended) the market at Avranches, Carrolles beach to name but a few. There is so much to do and see in this area that another holiday here is on the cards. I would not hesitate to recommend a holiday spent at La Hallotiere.

Great, huge beaches 40 mins drive, at Carolles, Jullouville and near Avranches (direction Granville).

Donville les bains beach at Granville is fantastic for children, there are lots and lots of rock pools to hunt in safely, there is also a sea water swimming pool in the middle of the sand so you can swim safely and has lifeguards on hand. This is approx 40 mins drive from La Hallotiere.

Dinard airport, near St Malo is about an hour 15 mins by car. It has flights from Stansted, East Midlands and Birmingham - flight time 1 hour.

Flights from Southampton and Exeter to Rennes take around 50 mins and Rennes is an hour and 15 mins by car from here.

Our nearest village is St. Pois, this has a boulangerie and is very popular for the croissant run in the mornings. This is approx 5 mins drive. Brecey is a larger town approx 10 - 15 minute drive, where there is a great supermarket, bars and restaurants. The bigger towns such as Avranches, Villedieu les Poeles are approximately half an hour from us, you can visit the bell foundry at Villedieu and the market on a Tuesday. Avranches has a big market on a Saturday and lots to see there.

Further Details:

There are some lovely places to eat very close to us, please see our website for details of places to eat. www.normandyvacance.com

Le Neufbourg hosts the L'Abbaye Blanche (the white abbey) This is worth a visit and then the Abbaye Bar andRestaurant close by, serves wonderful food and refreshments at very reasonable prices. This is close to the Grande Cascade which is a most wonderful walk.

Also at Mortain is Karting for adults and children. Two and Four stroke engines.

St. Hilaire du Harcourt has a big market on a Weds. You will see live chickens and ducks for sale here. (you don't have to look!)

Domfront is a beautiful medieval town full of cultural heritage.

If you are interested in the DDay landings, there are some fantastic places to visit, Arromanches, where the artificial port was assembled for the landings is amazing, Omaha and Utah Beach, St. Marie Eglise, all have really good museums and the American War Cemetry at Omaha is just outstanding. These really are worth visiting.

For a special occasion there is Le Moulin de Jean restaurant, higher end prices but well worth a visit, lots of our guests go here if they are celebrating a birthday or anniversary, and they have always been very pleased.
