About the Owner

Hello, we are Christine and Neil Finch. We purchased La Hallotiere in February 2013. We previously lived in Carshalton, Surrey.

We took early retirement from our jobs, Neil was a London Fireman and Christine worked in Oncology. We consider ourselves very lucky indeed to have found a property in such a beautiful place. We fell in love with the wonderful views the property has, and the peace and quiet after such busy lives in London.

We are very proud of our gites, please look at our website and you will see from our reviews from our guests that it is indeed a very special place.

It is an ideal location for Neil to pursue his love of motor bikes as the roads are so smooth and quiet.

We also love the good food and wine!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Christine and Neil,

I hope you're both well and would like to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay ar La Hallotiere during the Easter holiday week. The Stone House (as well as the other gites) was impecably clean, very well-equiped and tastefully decorated. The garden was lovely and the children had a fantastic time playing outside and enjoying the board games inside, especially The Simpsons Cluedo (which is in Daniel's forthcoming birthday list!). It was so relaxing and peaceful that we left with heavy hearts! Thank you so much for receiving us so well, for your help and advice on places to go. The meal at the Moulin de Jean on our last night was the icing on the cake and I'd really like to recommend that to all guests at La Hallotiere - top French cuisine at a very reasonable price, ummissable!

I hope you found the gite in good condition - we tried our best - and we'll definitely recommend it to friends wishing to travel to Normandy. Thank you very much and all the

Great gite, great hosts

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here several times now. The gites are very clean and comfortable, they feel like homes from home rather than holiday homes. All the little touches make a huge difference, such as fresh flowers, bottles of Normandy cider, books, games etc. The peace and quiet is intoxicating, the best nights' sleep I've had in years. The swimming pool is fantastic, as is the croquet. Neil and Christine are fantastic hosts - there if you need them, really friendly and welcoming. Two lovely bakeries in easy driving distance for those wonderful breakfasts. Great restaurants particularly

L'Abbey Blanche which offers a friendly welcome and great food.

The gites are ideal for exploring Normandy and beyond. Fabulous beaches, Mont St Michel, the D Day beaches etc. Plenty to explore and do, if you can tear yourself away from the swimming pool! Already planning our next stay here, and would thoroughly recommend. Can honestly not think of a single negative!

A little slice of heaven

We thought Stone Cottage was so characteristic of France. It is in a very picturesque location and you are surrounded by fields of maize. The property is very comfortable. No light pollution makes star gazing extra special. Loved sitting outside with a glass of wine,French bread & cheese. Couldn't ask for more!! Neil & Chris are very welcoming & maintain the cottages very well.

Fantastic value

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Stone House with two young children who were three and a half and one and a half at the time. We had a lovely stay after taken Le Shuttle and driving down from Calais. The cottage is in a lovely rural location with nice countryside views and lots of outside lawn for the children to run around. The cottage is cosy with a all British channels for when the kids went to bed and Wifi. It also had a nice heated pool Shared between the three gites. ( we had it to ourselves when we were there). The week we were there we visited one of the best kept and child friendly zoos I think I've ever been too ( zoo champrepus). Dinard near Malo which is lovely with excellent beaches, the botanical gardens at Avranches ( jardin des plantes) which has a great view of Mont St Michel and the crocodile farm near Mont St Michel. There was a nice lake and outdoor lido nearby (car ride).

There is a nice small town nearby for all your fresh bread, food etc including an out of town supermarket.

All in all a very relaxing and memorable week.

Stone House.

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay in the Stone House. Christine and Neil were such great hosts and very helpful!

We took many adventures. Some included an overnight trip to Paris on the first day. A 2h45min train from Villidieu (30mins drive) which was well worth it! We got mass in Notre Dame and visited the Champs Elysée!

Throughout the week we relaxed and went to the Zoo which is a great visit. You are able to get up close and feed the animals. We also went to Bayeux to see the Tapestry and the D-Day beaches which was very interesting for the whole family. We also went to Villidieu and the Super-U in Brécey, a 10 minute drive which has a great selection of fresh food. We also went to the Golf Course on a walk, recommended by Neil. On the last night, we all played a family game of croquet which was great fun.

We also got great enjoyment out of the pool for the whole week. We all used it everyday!

The house was lovely. It was spotless and comfortable. The one downfall was the flys, we definitely learned how to swat them away fast! Another great thing about the house was the shower! A "state of the art" that we all loved.

We would like to thank Neil and Christine for an enjoyable holiday that we will remember for years to come. We will definitely be back :)
