An end of terrace traditional stone cottage, full of character and charm but with all modern comforts. Only a few minutes walk from the friendly Tirril village pub, with several other great local inns nearby, for eating, dining or sampling the local real ales after your day on the fells or touring the Lakes. Lake Ullswater (Pooley Bridge) and Penrith are within a ten minute drive - a great location for Walking, Climbing, Pony Trekking or Cycling, or as a base for exploring further afield - scenic drives to Keswick, Ambleside and the whole of the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle, Northumberland, Appleby, the Pennines. Trains from nearby Penrith station make a day trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh an easy option (car park at the station). Locally, Penrith offers a cinema, leisure centre with pool, golf driving range, park, range of shops, banks etc. Cruise on Ullswater Steamers or visit Lowther Gardens, Brougham Castle and Dalemain. Pony trekking centre is a canter away at Fellfoot.

beautiful cottage, quiet location

Immaculately clean. Modern kitchen and bathroom. Shower not brilliantly powerful but okay. Lovely pub in walking distance, good food. Everything you could need for a comfortable stay.

Great hideaway

Nice and quiet, off the beaten track but everything in the lakes is accessible. the cottage is good to come home to at the end of the day and everything that you need is there. Would love to come back off season.

Beautiful little cottage, very clean with everything we needed for the perfect break.

Absolutely stunning cottage in a lovely little village. Ten minute walk to the local pub that serves gorgeous food. We visited Ullswater, Keswick and Appleby all only a half hour drive from the cottage. Aira force was stunning, certainly worth a trip. All in all a perfect break away.

a lovely cottage in a beautiful location - perfect for a couple or small family - will visit again

Me & my boyfriend rented out this cottage on bank holiday weekend in May 2016! We had such a wonderful break, made even more enjoyable by being able to come back to this cottage at the end of our busy days and relax and enjoy a homesome enviroment. The cottage is beautiful, with a modern kitchen and bathroom and a lovely living & dining area with 2 decent size bedrooms. The kitchen facilities were perfect for being able to cook for yourself if you wanted, the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful. It was the perfect size for us and would have been perfect if travelling with another couple or small children (although there is only a shower not a bath) the cottage was clean and welcoming on arrival and the instructions on how to enter were made clear by the owner. They provide you with guide books, information and alcohol (at a small cost of you wish) at the cottage which was helpful in getting to know the area. We really felt like we were living in the lakes with horses trotting past the window every few hours, a field of sheep opposite and the peace and quiet of the cottage!

My one and only criticism is there is no ironing facilities, and when you've travelled 5 hours in a car with your stuff tightly packed in a case an ironing board would have been handy. But other than that it was perfect in every way.

Location wise it is quite north but who cares when you get to drive through the beautiful landscapes. Windermere and Ambleside are about a 45 min drive away but it doesn't feel like that as it's such a beautiful drive. Near the cottage though is lake ullswater which is only about 10/15mins away. We spent an afternoon there and took out a boat on the lake and it was truly beautiful and much less crowded than Windermere. Pooley bridge is a little village just 5 mins away or you can walk it in about 45mins to an hr! It has 3 pubs in, one right on the lake where children were playing in the shallow water. There is also a little pub just around the corner from the cottage called the queens head which does lovely freshly homemade food with quite a big menu!

A wonderful cottage in a wonderful location! I would definitely recommend staying here and seeing a part of the lakes you wouldn't necessarily see if staying in Ambleside or Windermere! We shall visit again in the future.

We have been coming to the North Lakes for over 20 years and it is our favourite retreat from the bustle of city life. We love walking and even on bank holiday weekends we can be alone in the hills behind Blencathra. We also love the local pubs.

Notes:

  • Outside: Access to the cottage is via a traditional wooden gate leading to the back door. Rockery gardens across the back of the property. At the side of the cottage is a private, gated parking space for one car. Additional on street parking is available opposite. The parking space doubles as a paved area with patio table, and chairs provided, for your leisurely breakfast or evening drinks in the sun. The stone built wood store is located here too. There is a little-used right of way for the adjoining 3 cottages down the side and rear of the property. Utility Room: There is no utility room. Bed(s) are made up with cotton bedding ready for your arrival. Bath and Hand Towels are provided plus bed linen included in rent, weekly change provided for fortnightly stays .
