About the property

Cottage in Moelfre, Anglesey, Wales - Situated In A Quiet Part Of The Village but A Very Short Walk to the Shore, Pubs, Shops, etc.

Lavender Cottage is on the edge of the village, so it is very quiet and free from passing traffic, yet the 3 village beaches are just a short walk away. Anglesey is the “Cornwall of North Wales” with many fabulous beaches, towering cliffs and a recently completed and much heralded Coastal Path which takes you right around the island. As soon as you come over the Menai Strait and onto the Isle of Anglesey you will appreciate the tranquillity of the place and begin to relax. Apart from its very own natural beauty, the whole of Snowdonia and the beautiful Lleyn Peninsular (Abersoch, Aberdaron, etc.) are only a short, but lovely drive away. Moelfre is an old fishing village going back hundreds of years. It has a very famous lifeboat which has been involved in many dramatic sea rescues. The Sea Watch Centre highlights much of the maritime history of the village and its people. At the moment the most fascinating thing happening in the village is the building of the new lifeboat house.

About KEITH ROBERTS

Keith Roberts is very well known in the village, having been associated with it since 1974. He is very experienced in catering for visitors to the island ... not only has he let property very successfully before with a very high re-booking rate, but he has also owned 3 restaurants, 2 coffee shops and managed a 42 bedroom hotel. He is regarded as a provider of real quality and his current business - "Twm Pen Stryd", a gift shop, is renowned all over North Wales and the North West and is a real haven for regular visitors to the Isle of Anglesey.

And now for the history lesson ... "Twm" is Welsh for "Tom". Thomas Lewis lived in "Pen Stryd" and as tradition goes he was known as "Twm Pen Stryd"! He also became quite famous because he was shipwrecked on the Cospatrick.

KEITH ROBERTS purchased this house in 2012

Why KEITH ROBERTS chose Anglesey

We saw Lavender Cottage as an ideal holiday home. We were familiar with the property because we are great friends of the previous owners. The house is very private, peaceful and extremely comfortable.

It is located at the end of a very quiet cul-de-sac at the edge of the village, has sea views and is adjacent to a field which runs down to the cliffs. To witness the shipping all lit up at night is quite an experience!

Being a relatively modern property with a recently fitted kitchen, bathroom and conservatory, the house feels "clean and smart", but we have softened this by incorporating nice touches such as lots of furnishings, lighting and occasional tables, etc.

What makes this house unique

Whatever your priority or passion, Lavender Cottage is ideally situated for holidays. In a couple of minutes you can be at the beginning of a lovely clifftop walk on the renowned Coastal Path, on the 3 of Moelfre's beaches or scrambling over the rocks to your heart's content. If mackerel or bass fishing is your thing then the rocks down by Swnt Island is where you ought to be. Again, this is a stone's throw away. Within a couple of miles either way, the cliffs will lead you to sandy beaches. Lligwy (the next bay north) is a huge sandy beach with sand dunes. Here you will find lots of boating, power sailing land yachting, etc., as well as a good cafe. To the south is Traeth Bychan with a sandy beach, a good launching point and a sailing club. There is also an excellent cafe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a newly let property, March 2013 being the first time ever. The season was wonderful and the reaction of every single guest was more than complimentary and they have been providing lots of recommendations to friends and family as a result of their stay. With comments such as "it is so clean" ... "never seen such a well fitted out property" ... "it is so comfortable" ... "the village is beautiful" ... "the cliff walks and beaches are amazing" ... AND "we've been pining to come back since we left the island!" ... no wonder Lavender Cottage has gone down well !!!

Lovely Lavender Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had 5 days at Lavender Cottage just before Christmas this year. What a fantastic place!! the cottage itself is extremely well equipped and very comfortable, and there was nothing at all that we wanted for. The house, garden and sea view were wonderful. Keith made us feel very welcome. The surrounding area is very beautiful and we enjoyed some lovely walks on the beach and some good food from the local pub/restaurants. I couldnt recommend the cottage or the location more. Even though it was very quiet in the run up to Christmas, it was just what we needed to de-stress us before the madness started! Thanks very much, we would love to come back.

Fabulous holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We have just had a fantastic week at Lavender Cottage!

The cottage itself is a real home from home with all mods and cons, a beautiful garden and a roof garden with amazing views over the coast.

The cottage is in a perfect position for walking the coastal path, to the beach and to the local pub (and Keith & Jan's gorgeous shop!).

We spent the week walking our dogs, exploring the Island (which is beautiful) and fishing off the beach and would unreservedly recommend both the cottage and the Island to everyone.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

The house is lovely & fully equiped, set in an ideal position for the Welsh coastal path & Moelfre village.

There is an excellent view of the sea from the new balcony over the garage. The house was presented in an friendly & professional manner by the owner.

I will be booking again for next year.

Owner's Response: Dear Carl and family, Thank you for taking the time to send in this lovely review ... we just wish that other guests did the same by sending in exactly what they say in the guest book ... which is now full of the most complimentary comments. We are proud to say that every single guest staying at Lavender Cottage has had a wonderful time ... having loved the cottage, enjoyed its location and really appreciated what the Isle of Anglesey has to offer. We look forward to seeing you again. Keith and Jan Roberts

Lavender Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Lavender Cottage over Christmas 2013. What a lovely welcome, the owner was there to greet us and show us around. The cottage had christmas lights on and even a decorated tree outside the front door.

Everything was as described, very comfortable, very clean and very well equipped. A conservatory led out to a lovely garden.

We are looking forward to the new roof garden which will give great views out along the coast.

As you can guess we will be returning

Home from Home

  • 5 of 5

After a dismal journey in the November weather, we were cheered up straight away by the welcome we got from the owners of Lavender Cottage. The cottage really is like a home from home, and had everything we needed. Keith showed us round and Jan called the next day to make sure we had settled in. There are views of the sea from the cottage, and ample parking. The sea is two minutes walk away down pretty lanes, which open out onto fields - ideal for dog walking. Our canine friends were made especially welcome, as Jan and Keith are dog lovers, having their own gentle greyhound, Honey. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped with a conservatory for use in better weather. If we didn't want to cook, there is a pub selling good grub, and also a cafe (also very good) within walking distance, and a take-away in the next village.

Moelfre has spectacular views and is right on the coastal path - will definitely return.

Owner's Response: Hi Jenny Thank you for sending in your review and we are both so pleased that you enjoyed your autumnal stay ... with the dogs, of course. Hopefully by the time you come again we will have the roof garden all completed ... mind you the windy weather has to settle down a bit before! Kind regards Keith and Jan

Home from home but with better views

  • 5 of 5

I cannot applaud this cottage enough, both in its location and the facilities therein. Keith and Jan were the perfect hosts, both friendly and welcoming. The cottage was well equipped with all the appliances, plates, cups, utensils and cooking paraphernalia you could wish for – a proper home from home. The conservatory is a nice quiet corner away from children/tv and the lounge is a comfortable family space in the evenings. The location suited us well, being on the coast it was ideal for walks, a trip to the beach or a visit to the local pub. I have already recommended the cottage to friends and family and will hopefully be returning this year.

The coastline of Anglesey has numerous gorgeous beaches (all dogs ok!) Some are classic sandy beaches whilst others are fascinating little pebble coves or estuaries. Elsewhere, the coast is made up of superb cliffs, many of which soar to well over 400 feet.

Moelfre boasts 3 beaches, one in the village centre with a slipway. Another a few yards south over the rocks and the third a few yards north past the lifeboat house. Within 2-3 miles either side there are 3 superb sandy beaches.

- sports centres, swimming pools and indoor play areas

- farm visits and Greenwood Adventure Park & country parks

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The beauty of Lavender Cottage is that it is a “home from home” holiday let. The owner has tried to provide everything possible to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. He has not stinted on "home furnishings", so there are lovely seascape pictures in the lounge, etc. Every guest on entry comes up with the "wow" comment!!! Pet(s) love it also because the dog pen is next to the heater!!! The village of Moelfre is delightful, with its beaches, super cliff walks, fantastic views of the bays, Puffin Island, the Great Orme at Llandudno and Snowdonia. There are 2 pubs (serving food), a coffee shop/restaurant, and the newly refurbished Coastal Café (inc. fantastic chip shop), the village store and cafe across the road, a brilliant wool shop and the owners’ quality gift shop (Twm Pen Stryd), all within a short walk. We also have one of the most famous lifeboats in the UK, a fabulous new boathouse and a superb Sea Watch Visitor Centre. Outside: Access to the garden is via the kitchen, or conservatory. There are 2 patios and a lovely roof garden with access from the patio and landing! The patios & roof garden, as well as the kitchen, have sea views! The smaller patio, (seats 4) and catches the sun early on. The main patio is at the edge of the garden and affords a lovely view over the field and down to the sea. There is plenty of seating around the large table (inc. brolly), which seats 6+, so you can enjoy your barbecue in style. The BBQ is a good sized gas one with 3 burners and a gas ring to the side. The new roof garden is on top of the garage and has the best view of all! You will be able to open the door on the landing and partake of your morning tea (in your dressing gown), or walk up from the kitchen, via the main patio. The sea view is amazing and the real bonus is that so many ships anchor up in the bay, for days on end! The lights at nightime are a real "wow"! Utility Room: An abundance of kitchen equipment and utensils - pans (inc. steamer, slow cooker, wok & chip fryer), electric carver, coffee grinder, filter coffee maker, juice extractor and loads of crockery, glasses and cutlery, etc. This is a real foodies kitchen! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Attractive quality bedding is included. Just bring bathroom, kitchen and tea towels. If your stay is for 2 weeks there will be a full cleaning service and linen change available at the end of the first week. Please bring your dog's favourite rug for the pen! Other: The conservatory is lovely and furnished with a 3 piece cane suite, occasional tables, a 2 seater “b/fast table” and has a heater and side lights, as well as ceiling fan/light. There are both roof and side blinds. Double doors open out to the garden.
