Just 30 minutes inland from the bustling Costa beaches yet surrounded by stunning scenery this luxuriously appointed 2 bedroom villa offers the ideal getaway for those wanting to enjoy Andalucia's magnificent countryside as well as the opportunity to discover many of the unspoilt beaches east of Malaga to Granada. The villa enjoys an 8m x 4m pool and beautiful Mediterranean landscaped gardens. Sit and watch the many birds of prey as they soar across the valley from the surrounding National Park and admire the aerial skills of the swallows as they cool off diving in the pool and chase each other across the terraces. A 'chefs' kitchen includes all modern appliances including dishwasher and microwave and the living room is complete with TV, IPTV box with approx. 50 channels, HDMI input and cable (for laptops), DVD player, DVD collection and Hi-Fi. We also have an excellent wifi broadband connection throughout the villa and the terraces. The areas 3 main pueblo blancos, Canillas de Albaida, Archez and Competa can be viewed from the terraces with local shops and restaurants at Archez just 5 mins drive. In short - paradise!

Hello, my name is Adrian Strong and I live in Bristol. I am a Chartered Surveyor and work mainly in the UK although I do also work in Spain from time to time which gives me a good excuse to stay at Casa Baijan when it is not let out. I lived in Spain for 5 years and my family (children, brothers, sisters etc) and friends often came to visit. We have wonderful summer holidays at the villa sunbathing, wining and dining, walking and generally having an all round relaxing time.

Why Adrian Strong chose Axarquia (Costa del Sol)

I bought the villa in 2002 because I particularly liked the location 750 metres above sea level in the foothills of the mountains and on the edge of the National Park. I love the sea and regularly drive down to the beach but equally it is wonderful to be able to get away from the busy coast and enjoy the privacy and tranquility of the villa and surrounding countryside.

What makes this villa unique

Apart from only being thirty minutes from the coast, there are three beautiful unspoilt authentic Spanish towns/villages within sight and easy reach of the villa. Competa, Canillas de Albaida and Archez. I enjoy the slow relaxed pace of life in the villages and there are many really good restaurants and cafes to while away an hour or two.

For my part, other than occasional forays to the nearest village for supplies, I could easily have spent the entire two weeks enjoying the glorious seclusion and isolation. A lovely villa in stunning surroundings

What a beautiful villa! It more than lived up to expectations. The outside areas with amazing and spectacular views are particularly glorious. All amenities one requires are provided. We did however initially find it difficult to locate as there were 2 sets of 3 villas. Perhaps if you put 'straight white path next to pylon' on your directions, this might be more helpful? Perhaps because we went later in the season we did find the pool extremely cold to get into; in fact one of our party, (skinnier than the rest of us!!) never actually did make it totally in! Having said that it is a fabulous, clean, well maintained villa, providing everything required, with clear instructions e.g. cooker; if electricity cuts out etc. I would have no hesitation recommending it. Two small towns very close by have cafes and small supermarkets; it might be worth saying that large supermarkets are few and far between and that it might be a good idea to stock up on your way from the airport. I would also say better to stick to your own cooking as the two local restaurants tried were extremely disappointing!

Just Perfect

From our initial enquiry we had great communication from Adrian (the owner), including a comprehensive summary of the villa's facilities and very clear directions. All were very useful to have when you arrive somewhere new.

After an interesting drive up the mountain road, you arrive at this beautiful and very private villa. You immediately know this is more than just a luxury holiday rental, the owners obviously use the villa as a home. There's everything you could possibly need, including a large DVD/CD library, books and tourist information and guides.

The villa is as beautiful as the photo's show, the views are amazing and we spent many lazy afternoon around the pool. Whilst there was just the 2 of us, the villa would easy suit 2 couple or a small family.

Here are some of our recommendations.

1. Torre del mar is one of the closest beaches to the villa. It's 3.5 km's long, very clean and as the best facilities. It's very much a Spanish resort and has a lovely feel to it. There's not only a lovely promenade with a dedicate cycle track, they've even made a running track on the beach that runs the whole length. There's beach restaurants scattered along the beach most cooking sardines on open fires.

2. Nerja is a beautiful town, with great shopping. It's a little touristy but well worth a visit. Burriana beach is the main beach in the town, very busy but worth a visit just to eat the paella which is cooked in huge paella pans on an open fire.

3. We drove to Granada to visit Alhambra. It's about a 2 hour drive, but it's an easy journey and very easy to find and park when you get there. Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it's completely breathtaking. I know it sound a long way to go, but it was one of the highlights of our holiday. Recommend you purchase tickets in advance, because it can get busy. We had a fantastic lunch at The American Hotel which is on site.

4. We visited most of the villages which surround the villa. All are beautiful, we especially liked Compete and had a great meal at El Pilon, which is a restaurant half way up a cliff side and the views are well worth the walk up.

5. Driving up and down the mountain road gets easier. It's a little daunting to begin, first time took us nearly 45 mins, by the end of our stay we got that down to 30 mins.

We had a fantastic holiday and staying here certainly made it extra special. 100% recommend.

A beautiful, well-equipped villa in stunning surroundings

We spent 12 days at Casa Baijan in April/May 2016 and had a thoroughly relaxing break - even though the weather was a little changeable (only to be expected at that time of year). The villa is perfect if you just want to kick back and unwind, but there is also plenty to see and do nearby. We explored the neighbouring 'pueblos blancos' - Salares is especially pretty - drove down the coast to Nerja and Frigiliana, and even made it to Ronda for the day. We also enjoyed walking along the promenade from Caleta de Valez to Torre del Mar, stopping for sardines and beer at one of the many beachfront 'chiringuitos'. The villa was a real treat to return to for a relaxing sundowner, taking in the views and watching the eagles circling overhead. This is a beautiful part of Spain and Casa Baijan is one of the nicest villas we've stayed in. Highly recommended.

Idilic location, and stunning villa

We have stayed in the surrounding area of Spain a few times over the years, but never have we found a villa as quiet and perfect as this one. The views from the many places you can relax at this property are spectacular. You can see for many many miles, and standing there watching the sun rise in the morning with a nice cup of Tea was perfect!

The villa itself has everything you could wish for, and much more. All the facilities you could need, including a strong internet service (needed for us for work commitments). The winding roads that lead to this villa are also great fun, and even better when riding a road bike down to the coast. This area is perfect for the cycling enthusiast. Some very steep hills though!

We enjoyed many an evening BBQ here, but also found some wonderful places to eat in nearby Cómpeta. I suggest you seek this village out, and enjoy a meal at "La Taverna de Oscar" if you can.

The support from the owners on the approach to, and during our stay was tip top, and we would be happy to stay at this villa again should we visit Spain in the future.

All in all, a superb villa in a stunning place, surrounded by peace and tranquility. Perfect!

Notes on accommodation: Air-conditioning is provided in the bedrooms and gas central heating is available throughout the villa for the chillier winter months at a small extra charge. The villa overlooks a steep valley and the pool's shallow end is over 1m (although there are wide Roman steps to sit on) therefore it is not suitable for children under the age of twelve. We have a no smoking policy - sorry! Outside: Surrounded by landscaped Mediterranean gardens the private 8m x 4m pool, outdoor shower and extensive terraces offer the perfect place to unwind and soak up the sun (or gaze at the stars). The Jasmine terrace has two comfy wicker armchairs and coffee table and the round terrace, a dining table and seating for 6. There is a large barbecue area with traditional Spanish chimneyed barbecue. Sun loungers, parasols and other assorted furniture are provided to add to your comfort. The private grounds extend to just over 1 acre including fruit trees, grapes, almonds, oranges, lemons, figs, olives etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, kitchen and bath towels are included but please bring your own pool towels. The property will have been cleaned and fresh linen supplied at the start of your holiday. Other: Dining Room with stylish glass/oak dining table, six chairs and matching sideboard. Office desk and chair. Wi-fi broadband connection, flat screen 22" monitor, keyboard and mouse (ready for laptop connection).
