Extremely Spacious, Totally Individual Detached Villa

Updated: 24-Jun-2016
Villa in Mojacar Playa, Almeria, Andalucia, Spain - With large Own Pool And Stunning Mountain Views

Casa Colina is one of the original villas of Mojacar Playa built in the 1980s with later additions. It is of a “Hacienda Style” and set in stunning gardens of half an acre which are a feature of this property, filled with bougainvillea, jasmine, geraniums and palm trees. The villa has panoramic views of the mountains behind and also enticing glimpses of the sea. The villa is designed for families and sharing groups, but is also perfect for smaller groups. The gardens and terraces offer secluded areas to relax in peace whilst others are enjoying the Pool area. It should be noted, that due to the maturity of the garden and the types of plants (i.e. cactus), that care should be taken with younger children Casa Colina is a “one off” villa and contains a number of antiquities and unusual features which reflect the owner!

About the Owner

I live in a glorious part of England in Herefordshire on the River Wye near the Welsh Borders. I am a retired Chartered Surveyor, now a widower, with a large family who very much enjoy the villa. I wanted somewhere to express myself and my slightly eccentric ideas! I found the villa way back in 1987 which was unloved and then, together with my late wife, started creating what it is today. It is a spacious detached property in the Hacienda style. There are many unusual features and plenty of space and shade, with areas to get away from everyone; perhaps to read and sleep whilst others are in the large secluded pool area. It is set back from the main Playa under the mountains, yet within 15 minutes walk from the Playa restaurants, bars and beaches.

fantastic family villa

  • 5 of 5

this is a perfect villa for a family holiday, as soon as you walk through the door you feel at home it is not modern but this is what makes you feel instantly at ease with it all.

There were 7 adults 1 teenager 1 child and 1 baby in our party and everyone was catered for. A lot of villas I looked at said they slept this many but did not look like they catered for that many i.e. sunbeds tables chairs there is more than enough for everybody at this villa, and plenty of room for people to sit in there own space or all together kitchen is fully equiped for cooking we ate out and cooked indoors every thing was so easy.

We know the area very well and I would recomend to anybody to stay here.

The Wifi signal is excellent very important for teenagers !

The local supermarket is easy to get to and stocks everything you need.

The owner was very helpfull as was the agent that meet us on arrival.

Casa Colina

This is an amazing villa. We had lots of help from the owner to ensure that we had all information prior to going. Met by a pleasant agent who took time explaining all the nuances of the villa and places to go.

The villa was clean and tidy with a lot of interesting furnishings and loads of character. The sleeping accommodation was perfect for us. The double bedroom with en suite overlooking the pool was modern and spacious. My daughter and family used the double bedroom with bunk for their children with the terrace going out to the pool.

The villa had lovely nooks and crannies and there were places for all to go as the mood took us, so many places to sit and explore for the children.

The pool was perfect with lots of shade should it be needed - loved the covered area at the end with kitchen and dining table + BBQ. We ate out by the pool at night and it was end of October / November

Pool was clean and well maintained whilst we were there by regular visits from the pool man. We swam every day.

The garden was packed with plants and looked quaint.

Children loved the pool but also enjoyed the boules court.

We loved the area - wonderful old village of Mojocar, fishing port of Garruchia, inland castle at Verez Blanca and National Park with small bays such as San Juan to the south west. We were not so keen on the area along the front which for us was a little too commercialized, but we do enjoy a quiet holiday away from the madding crowd, for others i am sure that they would love it.

We did eat on the Playa (beach) near the Villa - some lovely eating establishments, and visited the mini golf and the ice cream parlour to the Western end. We tended to go with the traditional rather then 'British' owned restaurants. Plenty of supermarkets for food shopping.

At the time of year we were there the weather was great (26'C) beautiful blue skies. It was quiet and easy to get around and park etc. I can imagine that in the summer it is very busy but then so are all Spanish resorts.

The villa is not ultra modern but is all the things said above and I could thoroughly recommend a visit by anyone.

From the Owner

I wanted a place away from the masses to taste the real Spain and not the typical concrete jungles of the high rise Costas. Mojacar Playa was being developed and the planning laws restricted buildings rising above three storeys; so the Playa became a 4 mile front with minimal development behind. It still possesses the original beach bars opening right onto the seafront. There is also the original Pueblo (village) of Mojacar, dating back to the Moors & Christians, set on a hillside behind the Playa. Its labyrinth of alleyways and lanes contain a number of shops, bars and restaurants to explore and enjoy, with views of the spectacular mountains and sea. Set below the mountains, the rugged coastline and small villages to explore, Mojacar presented us with everything we were seeking.

Activity and Interests

Set back about ½ mile (15 mins walking) to the sea and Playa

with its numerous bars, restaurants, shops and Pascaio Walks.

Mojacar Play, once totally deserted, was developed in the 1960s with the arrival of the first tourists to the area. It now boasts some 10k of virtually single lined developments along the sea front. There is a wide selection of restaurants of all nationalities, long sandy beaches and some of the last original beach bars in Spain which are situated right on the beach.

Almeria (approximately 50 minutes away).

Murcia (1hr 30 mins via new motorway).

Alicante (2hrs away).

There are also bus services and taxis available and a new rail connection to the area will shortly be opened.

Approximately two and a half hours away is the beautiful mountainous area of Las Alpujarras below the Sierra Nevada and the historic city of Granada and the fabulous Alhambra Palace.

Further Details:

Mojacar is a gem of the Almerian coast and on the eastern tip of Andalucia in Southern Spain. Due to its southerly location and proximity to the Sahara Desert, there are similar climatic conditions, even in winter, to those in North Africa. The Pueblo (village) of Mojacar dates back to the 11th century with a rich and colourful history of the Moors and Christians. Its white cottages and houses spiral up the hillside on which it was built in a labyrinth of small streets and passages with its shops, restaurants and bars. There are spectacular views from the top of the village and the wonderful sunsets can be enjoyed during an evening drink at one of the bars!

There is a Water Park in Vera Playa; The National Parks (Cabo de Gata along the Coast) and inland; Cave Dwellings and the Mini-Hollywood Film Studios (where “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” was filmed).
