About the Owner

After spending many years looking for our ideal property within easy travel time of the main ports, we came across La Cour Herce a little over two years ago and immediately fell in love with it. It offers everything we were looking for. Peace, space, a nearby smallish town in walking distance, a small wood and a lake! Still living in the UK we visit as often as possible and it has been enjoyed greatly by family and friends and will continue to be so and we are sure you will enjoy it as much as we do. Andrew and Sharon.

A fantastic holiday!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful property in a truly beautiful location. This is ideal for couples or families wanting to get away from it all and a great base for exploring the Loire Valley, Normandy and Brittany.

The property is 'home from home' comfortable set amongst farmland with the added bonus of the lake and lots of garden to explore and enjoy. If you love fishing (lots of 'double figure' carp and good size roach) and wildlife (stoats, red squirrels, kingfishers, tree creeper, woodpeckers, black kite and little owl all seen) this is the place for you.

Andrew the owner is incredibly accommodating and helpful. 5/5 for this property and holiday - would definitely recommend.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

We were very fortunate to have stayed at this lovely house for our two weeks' holiday. The house is so bright and airey and so relaxing. It had everything we needed. The fishing lake was great and we had several trips out on the rowing boat. Gorron is a lovely little village and has everything you need. The local coast, Carolles, was within easy reach and is a great resort. Overall, we could not fault the house and it's lovely surroundings and would definitely love to go back. You can choose to actually just stay at the property and just relax or venture out, as there's plenty to do in the surrounding areas also. We also found some lovely cycle routes, all off road. We came home refreshed and relaxed, which is just what we needed. We actually said that if we were going to move to France, this is where we'd want to be. Excellent!!!

Perfect Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a relaxing week away, and this was perfect. The cottage is a short walk from Gorron which is a nice little village with several boulangeries. The lake is great with plenty of fish, and a row boat. The cottage itself is cosy and whilst there were just two of us, would be great for families or two couples. Very happy to recommend and will be going back.

Location

From the Owner

Having spent many holidays in northern France we fell in love with the country, the food and the space. The house is in the most northern corner of Pays de la Loire near the borders of Britanny and Normandy so is easily reachable from any of the ferry ports with St Malo being only 90mins away. Although in a quite country location surrounded by fields, cows and trees we are not that remote so that a brisk 30 min walk along a country lane brings us to a busy town with several bars and all the usual shops.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

A lovely beach at Carolles is approx 55 miles away. A sandy beach with a bar, toilets, showers and a couple of shops or a bit further along the coast is the lively town of Jullouville.

Travel:

The ferry port of St Malo is approx 70 miles away, Caen 80 miles and Le Havre is 130 miles.

A car is essential

Distances:

Gorron is 1.75 miles away, the historic towns of Mayenne and Laval are 15 and 30 miles respectively both situated on the river Mayenne. The large vibrant town of Rennes, Britanny's capital is 50 miles away.

Facilities

From the Owner

Unlike many properties over 100 years old the house is bright, airy and spacious. The living room has large triple aspect windows and high ceilings so even on a dull day it is bright inside with plenty to look at. A great way to start a summers morning is to either walk or cycle into town to pick up fresh croissants for breakfast on the decking or to take down to the lake. Although relatively close to some lovely beaches and in the middle of great countryside with historic towns, children (and adults) will really enjoy playing in the forest, exploring the various streams that feed into the lake or fishing so often there is no need to leave the property.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The house is perfect during the summer with its large windows and doors and cosy during the winter or cold nights due to the double glazing, central heating and log burner if required. Comfortable sofas for evening reading and plenty of games for the kids. Outside: Everything you could need for a relaxing holiday. Ideal location for adults to enjoy the surrounding region or just to chill out by the lake, in the woods or to lay in the sun! Various garden furniture means that it is rare to ever eat in doors. A BBQ is available but please take care during hot dry weather and only use away from the forest. Great for kids of all ages. The lake is well stocked with the usual species with common and mirror carp and some very large crucian carp for the expert angler. Early mornings and during the day you can see red squirrels who often come upto the house, hares regularly seen in the paddock, buzzards overhead most days, woodpeckers, tree creepers etc are all regular visitors so a great location for bird watchers. You will often see a kingfisher or two and herons early in the morning. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and lining provided.
