About the Owner

My partner and I live in the midlands. We both love the south west and decided to look for a property to buy. We toured the area and decided on Brixham as we wanted somewhere to spend our winters. We spotted a run down property in need of a complete renovation and so we bought it and spent the next year lovingly restoring it.

Upper cottage used to be a merchant traders house and dates back to the 17th century.

Because Upper Cottage is our HolidayHome we have taken special care to provide good quality furnishings and utensells. You will find every thing there that you need to make your holiday a memorable one.

Upper Cottage will provide you with a lovely environment to spend quality time with your family.

We are retired now and love to spend time at the cottage.

A home from home

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is home from home but better still it's in beautiful brixham, 3 lovely clean bedrooms, well stocked kitchen diner and a large comfortable lounge , with everything a family could want for a holiday, there is a small balcony where you can watch the world go by, at the rear a raised patio with a barbecue a lovely private sun trap , the cottage is so handy for shops ,transport ,and has it's own parking spot near the harbour which is a bonus ,we are already looking forward to another week in 2017 can't wait

Lovely homely and relaxing property

  • 5 of 5

We booked this lovely property for its great location and old fashioned looks.

It was a genuine wow when you walk in and with its beams and old fireplaces you step back in time a little bit.

Although saying that you have a fully fitted kitchen, 2 showers and a bath. Wi fi, free view etc. The little balcony at the front is a great way to enjoy the sunshine and watch the busy people below you with a little bit of smugness as you relax.

The town is literally on your doorstep and the harbour is an easy 5 minute maximum walk down the road.

You are opposite a Tesco and a Co-op both open till 11 and the property itself is above a lovely art gallery.

Just be warned as its an older property some of the door frames are a little low I am 6 foot and had a few bangs on the head when i forgot to duck. When you first arrive be prepared to unload the car quickly as you are on the main road to the harbour and then you can go down to your own parking space right on the harbour.

A lovely place and we hightly recommend the property, it was clean, tidy and well loved and a credit to the owners who leave enough notes and e-mails to make sure you have everything you need.

Thank you for a lovely holiday

Home from Home - central location

  • 5 of 5

So pleased at the comfort, with everything provided, that this property gave us. Best of all the central location - just a short walk to the harbour (slightly uphill around 100 yards to get back).

Albeit the front patio overlooks the carpark, some interesting sights to behold if you're a people watcher! Rear patio was private, although some steep steps to gain access. We spent a few very enjoyable evenings watching the Seagull chicks learning to fly whilst eating delicious burgers and ribs sourced from the butcher just the other side of the carpark. Also worth mentioning a fantastic bakery, - also located over the carpark - good sandwiches and pasties.

We enjoyed a few nights in eating locally sourced produce (fishmonger a few doors up) and of course the ever dependable Co-op a couple of minutes walk away, just across the .............well guess you can work this out by now.

The property has been lovingly restored with the original features and fittings retained whenever possible. Bedrooms are on the small side but comfortable and more than adequate. Not a lot of hanging space, but that really wasn't a minus for us.

There were two bathrooms, one on the lower floor that additionally catered for anyone with mobility problems - we tended to use this for the toilet only, and the four of us (my daughter and her partner plus us oldies) were more than happy to share the upstairs bathroom.

Great TV with Satellite Channels.

Internet access was intermittent, but we could usually get a connection on our IPads in the lounge (not so important for a lot of people, but we have an Internet Business).

A harbourside parking space is available with the letting and is essential if you're staying in Brixham because of the overnight parking restrictions. It is though tight, and your vehicle does have need a certain resilience to Pidgeon poop.

This isn't the place to review Brixham - suffice to say we love it, and would definitely recommend Upper Cottage as comfortable, central and pet friendly accommodation. Just can't imagine anything better - we would definitely return.

Upper Cottage Brixham

  • 4 of 5

It was our first visit to Great Brittain and our choise for Brixham was because of the pictures of the Upper Cottage and the possibilities of our stay in Brixham. We loved the Cottage very much. Everything we needed was there and more. It was cosy and also the little garden in the back was very nice.

Also the shops at walking distance, the busstop and the ferries to Torquay. A beautifull coast path and also possible to discover Dartmore National Park.

Brixham

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is accurate in its description, it's cosy and has all amenities, it in the center of brixham, ideal for exploring, its near the boat taxis, and bus service so you don't need your car, only negatives are steep uneven steps to the terrace, but lovely sun trap, and parking space is right on the quayside which is very busy most of the day, not much room to manoeuvre, not very big parking space, but it is useful as parking is a nightmare.

Location

From the Owner

We bought our holiday home in brixham because we fell in love with the place.and as we intended to use the cottage in the winter time we wanted somewhere with a more gentle climate. Brixham is a little micro climate and can often be very mild during winter months. Its charming and busy harbour and the situation of the cottage being on the level of the town means you can nip in and out of the town and harbour on foot without the need for a car. its in an area of outstanding natural beauty with lots to see close by, lovely walks and fantastic pubs and resturants. We chose Brixham to buy our holiday home because it is a thriving fishing comunity.not just a holiday resort. So many seaside towns die in the winter but although Brixham is quieter, it is still lively out of season.

Facilities

From the Owner

We are close to the harbour and town with the manor pub being the nearest pub only 50 or so yrds away. numerous shops restaurants and bars within a 5 minute walk from the property. buses to all torbay resorts leave from the square across from the property which we enjoy for free with our bus pass!!We love to walk around the harbour and up on to Berry Head which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The beaches of fishcomb and churston cove are a 15 minute walk from the harbour and you can take your dog on these all year round. Brixham welcomes dogs and many of the pubs and resturants allow them in. The cottage is cosy for winter lets with full gas central heating (all you have to do is turn up the thermostat and on it comes) and a flame effect stove fire in the lounge fireplace.
