'Orange Tree Cottages' (Casa Rural Patio del Naranjo) are two charming cottages available for holiday rentals. Built in the early 19th Century, these traditional Canarian cottages are located in the historic centre of Granadilla de Abona, a small village in the southern part of the island of Tenerife. Both cottages have been furnished to reflect traditional Canarian interiors.

Cottage #2 is slightly more spacious than Cottage #1. Cottage #2 also has two double beds in the bedroom as opposed to just one double bed. Cottage #2 is on the higher level of the courtyard, closest to the stairway taking guests to the other two levels: the chill-out/BBQ area and the sunbathing rooftop with scenic views. Cottage #2 can be accessed through the main courtyard door but also through its own doorway via the little side alleyway. Cottage #2 backs onto pedestrian alleyways instead of the main road.

About the property

Lovely Cottage in Tenerife

'Orange Tree Cottages' (Casa Rural Patio del Naranjo) are two charming cottages available for holiday rentals. Built in the early 19th Century, these traditional Canarian cottages are located in the historic centre of Granadilla de Abona, a small village in the southern part of the island of Tenerife – just a few miles from the main tourist areas and only 7.1 miles from Tenerife South Airport (Aeropuerto Reina Sofia). Our location makes it perfect for you to enjoy both the buzz in the natural beaches of the southern part of the island (e.g. El Medano) and the solitude of El Teide National Park. Our cottages are very spacious and have been furnished to reflect traditional Canarian interiors. The main difference between Cottage #1 and Cottage #2 is that the latter has two double beds in the bedroom instead of one double bed.

Our cottages flank a big quintessentially-Canarian courtyard which is home to a garden bursting with flowers, bushes and trees (including the one that gives us our name: our beloved orange tree). The courtyard/garden area is split into two levels, allowing for privacy for both cottages. There is also garden furniture (including tables and chairs) for each of the cottages.

To the side of the courtyard there is a stairway that will take you to two further levels: on level one there is a BBQ area, a chill-out zone (with couches, etc.) and a secluded sunbathing patch (with sun loungers); on level two there is a reading room and a massive rooftop (fitted with extra sun loungers) with spectacular views of the whole village and the southern region of the island. Bring your camera!

Our cottages are ideal for couples, families, or groups of friends as you can enjoy quality time together in the large rooftop terrace (with breath-taking panoramic views), or the barbecue/chill-out area, or the reading/games room or the lush gardens. The cottages offer great versatility.

It is also easily accessible by car and public transport alike – having a great bus station within connections to all popular destinations (e.g. El Medano, Santa Cruz, Las Americas, etc.)

Original architectural integrity. Beautiful gardens I enjoy maintaining myself – and guests can use for a bit of “horticultural therapy”! A lifetime of dedication to the property my husband and I inherited almost 50 years ago. TRAVEL: Tenerife South Airport (Aeropuerto Reina Sofia) is only 7.1 miles from our cottage. This international airport offers a variety of car hire services – please contact us for our personal favourites!

COAST/BEACH: We strongly recommend you visit the seaside town of El Medano (7.1 miles), which boasts of having the largest natural beaches of Tenerife. If you would rather have quiet beaches mostly popular with the locals and the opportunity to practice your favourite water sport then El Medano is the place for you.

NATIONAL PARK: You simply cannot visit Tenerife and not take a trip up to El Teide National Park (23 miles). Named World Heritage Site in 2007, the National Park is the most famous landmark in the Canary Islands and there you can find El Teide, an active volcano (the highest mountain in Spain). Take a cable car to the top and enjoy the truly breath-taking views of the island of Tenerife and the other surrounding Canary Islands.

CAPITAL CITY: Spend some time in Santa Cruz, the capital city. Located on the northeast cost it is a bustling city and shipping port (one of the busiest in Spain and deepest in the world). The enormous harbour holds many container ships, cruise liners and inter island jet foils and ferries. Situated in a large natural bay, it has a stunning backdrop of mountains (Anaga Mountains) that are over 1,000 metres high.

NOTES ON PRICES: Our cottage is priced at €65 per night. This is our flat rate for either one or two people. Every extra person above 2 people would require a further €10 per night. The price includes a free welcome tray and bedding change and fresh towels every week. Children under 9 stay free. Children aged over 9 would have to pay €10 per night – unless it is one child staying with one adult. If you are looking to stay for a long period of time, please contact us for a long-stay rate. Email us to discuss your needs. OUTSIDE: The cottage has a stunning secluded garden – which features our lovely centrepiece: the orange tree. Our other outdoors facilities are spread over two other levels: the BBQ/chill-out area (which includes a big purpose-built grill and comfy sofas) is off the garden area; go up to the next level, and access our huge rooftop terrace and its multiple sun loungers to take in the overwhelming beauty of the southern region with our breath-taking panoramic views whilst sunbathing. CLEANING / TOWELS / LINEN / MAID SERVICE: Towels and linen are included and changed once a week. Additionally, the cottage is cleaned once a week – when you stay for more than 7 days. All free of charge. OTHER: We have a cot and a highchair (upon request!), broadband internet access (free Wi-Fi), a telescope (upon request!) and garden furniture (tables and chairs, sun loungers, etc.)

delightful and spacious

Located high up in the old town on a quiet street, entry into the property is via a delightful courtyard with dozens of plants meticulously tended by Mrs Garcia, who lives on-site. Rooms are spacious and comprehensively and thoughtfully equipped; the wifi works well, bed is large and comfortable. Guests also have access to the whole roof space which also includes a barbecue, sun room and large terrace with views to the ocean. Round the corner is the local gofio mill, and in town - 10 mins walk - is a very good Mercadona supermarket, which even has a fresh fish counter. Driving to and parking at the property seems daunting at first - narrow and steep streets with labyrinthine one way system, but it was fine and we always managed to park just round the corner. Ideally located to explore the whole island. If you are thinking trying the climb to the top of Mt Teide you must book ahead a Permit from the National Park website (it's free but they strictly limit the numbers), and it's also well worth booking your cable car ticket on-line too.

We had the most amazing stay, beautiful cottage with amazing views. Senora Garcia is simply the most attentive owner/hostess anyone could hope for, we had an absolutely brilliant time, away from all the noise and buzz yet only a 25-30min car journey to the nearest beach, we definitely wanting to go back. 10/10 i would definitely recommend :) thank you Senora Garcia you made our holiday extra special, loved it xxx

We had a lovely time at Orange Cottage 2. Mrs Garcia is the perfect host. She is absolutely lovely, so friendly, helpful and caring. The cottage is very comfortable with everything you are likely to need. Mrs Garcia has thought of everything. The gardens are a delight and we spent many happy hours relaxing, eating and drinking in the lovely sunshine with all the beautiful coloured flowers. Heaven...will most definitely go again if only to see Mrs Garcia 💗 Highly recommended.

Great place with right mindset

Stating the obvious - this is not a beach holiday location! Neither is is way out in the country. It is in a courtyard of a townhouse in Granadilla De Abona. As such you will be initially aware of the occasional passing car and you will hear the bells of the church strike every quarter from 8am to 12 midnight. But these sounds soon fade into the background as you relax. This is not a location suitable for those with mobility challenges. But for those who want to walk and explore the hills, back-roads and surrounding villages it is a fantastic location. The beach by the way is a ten minute walk to the bus station and less than 20 min journey away.

The accommodation is everything as described by others. Traditional style with a welcoming host.

We did not hire a car during our holiday!!! No grief or stress or searching for parking spaces. ;-)) The local transport system is amazingly inexpensive, always on time and you can get connections for anyway you would wish to go. The drivers are invariably friendly and helpful. Bus 111 from outside the airport front door takes you one stop to San Isidro. From there walk across the bridge to the high street and get bus 408 to Granadilla station. Walk up the town to Iglesia (Church) de San Antonio de Padua and meet your hostess. Your all settled withing 40 mins of arriving! Others are still queuing for their car! For those wanting to go to the beach El Modano is within easy reach again on bus 408 from the bus station. Bus travel all over and you can find easy apps on line to plane routes and check timetables.

The local Mercado sells all the fresh food you could wish for and does a great line in breads and cakes.

An evening walk up the local hills in the evening gets you fit and rewards you with some great views.

The bed is so comfortable! Then again all the fresh air helps too! The garden smells of fresh flowers and herbs and is a great place to sit out with food and a bottle of wine.

Would we go back? ..... yes we will!

Truly spectacular home, host and experience!

There are some places you go and are very nice. And there are other places that are so special you will remember forever. Las casas naranjas is for sure one we will never forget.

Everything was exactly as shown. The home was sparkling clean, the beds comfortable, the gardens charming, the view spectacular, and Tita, the host warm, welcoming and full of love and light. We miss her so much!

Recommended: Driving over to the beautiful village Masca and relaxing at Playa de la Tejita (next to Medano) in one of the semi circular stone structures (and climbing Montana Roja at sunset and watching the sun set behind the ocean!)

Although we stayed for 9 days and often did not go anywhere because it was so peaceful and serene at the cottage!

Side note: This building is over 150 years old and was an old bodega where wine was made and stored.

Hay algunas lugares que estan buenos. Y hay otros que estan inolvidables. Las casas naranjas es uno que no va a olividar.

Todo es exactamento como esta en los fotos. Limpo casa, camas comodoas, jardines hermosas, vista espectacular, y Tita, la dueno incredible carinosa y lleno de amor y luz.

Recomendamos una visita al puebla Masca y la Playa de la Tejita (a lado de Medano) y subir La Montana Roja cuando sale el sol.

Quedamos por 9 dias pero frecuentamente quedamos en la casa por la pura tranquilidad.

Nota especial: La casa era una bodega que tiene mas que 150 anos.
