We had a wonderful 2 weeks here relaxing by the pool and visiting the many local towns. We loved visiting Alberobello especially in the evening and would recommend a trip to the caves which are fascinating and very moving. The countryside is really lovely and the locals are especially friendly. The little lady at the meat counter at the Punto supermarket speaks English and will help you purchase excellent meat for the BBQ. Many thanks to you.

Fantastic property - one of the best we have hired

  • 5 of 5

This property was everything we hoped it would be. We stayed at end of August for 2 weeks; 2 adults and 2 children (age 8 & 11). Would agree with all the positive comments others have put. Here are the highlights for us:

- The building is beautiful and the setting is very peaceful, surrounded by farmland and no adjacent properties. Its would be tricky to find, but the agency will meet you nearby and guide you through the country lanes

- Despite that, the nearest towns and supermarkets are a ten minute drive away. You'll also find many great restaurants in Castelle Grotte and Alberello

- Alberello in particular is stunning. The locals caves are worth a visit and we also tried the local, small waterpark which wasn't too busy even in August. Ostuni is a bit further away (30-40 mins) but is also well worth the trip

- Although no aircon the thick walls and fans made sure it was never too hot inside.

- The swimming pool seemed huge. This was a big plus for us - so much better than the usual size pools you get. Also, while one end is deep, there is a platform around the edge that means little ones can get to the side and stand on the ledge. Like us, you probably haven't considered how useful this can be for children, but it made a big difference for our youngest.

- We had great communications from the owner before we traveled; very comprehensive directions and guidance which is also in the house when you arrive. Also responded quickly to any questions we had as well

- Importantly, when something went wrong it got fixed. We experienced an intermittent problem with hot water which happened over Italian Public Holiday. Stuff happens, but this could have been a disaster. However, the quick response from the agency and owner meant this was fixed within 48 hours and the shower was transformed as a result.

This is a great part of Italy, not too over-run with tourists. I would thoroughly recommend this property to a family of similar age and size. Thanks to David and the Perfect Puglia team for giving us some great memories.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. It is our pleasure and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We tried to restore the Trulli sympathetically and in keeping to its tradition whilst adding the nescesary features required for modern day living. We love the area and what it has to offer as well as the pool which is great to cool off in and also swim in for that little needed exercise to help reduce the effects of the delicious pasta.

Your own little piece of Puglia

  • 5 of 5

Spent a wonderful 10 days in this idyllic trulli surrounded by olive and fruit trees.

It's a way off the main road so very grateful to have been met by the management company a few miles away and then 'escorted in'. Once there you can choose to simply laze by the amazing large pool (which is kept very clean by regular visits from the pool cleaner) or visit nearby Alberabello village and Castellana Grotte caves (both well worth a visit) and the local beaches (approx 25 min drive away) Would be a great base to explore further afield in the day too, as we had planned to do but once there opted to stay round the pool more as it was a perfect setting to while away the hours and totally relax.

A well equipped house, maintained to a high standard and very clean. The welcome pack was a lovely touch, (especially the prosecco! ) and very useful to have both bath and pool towels provided. Very comfortable pool bed chairs and a great shaded outdoor dining area. Wifi was incredibly reliable and speedy.

Only disappointment was that the 'walk to' restaurant only opened on days when they had enough bookings, so ended up eating in more than we had planned, but even this wasn't a problem as there is a great sized BBQ and lots of amazing italian food to choose from at the local supermarkets.

Would definitely recommend a stay here if you want a 'get away from it all' holiday with the option of being a short drive to tourist areas, beautiful towns and beaches and want to experience something a bit different to an average villa.

Should also be said that David was a great owner who was quick to reply to emails and queries. Many thanks

What a blissful stay.......

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have just returned from a truly wonderful stay. David and Andrew couldn't make you feel more welcome at their beautiful Trullo. We were met by the lovely Alison, who showed us around and explained everything. The Trulo is fabulous, in a beautiful, quiet, secluded position. The pool is great, we were blessed with fantastic weather and although we spent most of our time at the Trullo; when we did go out for the day, it was great to just come home and dive in!! There's everything you need there and the town/supermarkets are just a 10-15 minute drive. So many fantastic places to visit, beautiful beaches, markets, restaurants, caves - all within easy reach - but you do need a car!! Even in 40 degree heat, the Trullo stays cool, we had a BBQ most evenings, but there are some excellent local restaurants nearby should you want to eat out. We cannot wait to return!!

Beautifully secluded trullo

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Trullo Casolare. Beautifully secluded but still close to town and well located for plenty of day trips in the area. The trullo was perfectly set up including a welcome pack of food and water. The outside area is equally great, a large swimming pool surrounded by cherry trees and a great little bbq. David and Andrew clearly take great care of the property. We would love to return and would certainly recommend Trullo Casolare.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This Trullo is just beautiful. On our arrival we were 5 hours late due to Air Strikes, so didn't arrive until 11pm, but Alison still met us and showed us around.

David was extremely helpful and very quick with responding to any questions.

There was a beautiful food package left for us which made our next morning a lot more pleasant. It is located in the middle of nowhere which is just heaven when you are getting away from a busy life at home.

The pool was immaculate and was cleaned a couple of times while we were there. The Trullo is decorated to a high standard and makes you feel at home. It has everything you need for a weeks stay.

We ate the majority of nights using the BBQ with food we bought from the local supermarket, but we did venture out a couple of times. One night we ate at a place called Leccio or something like that - absolutely amazing and so cheap. We had the restaurant to ourselves. The final night we went to Villa Maria and too had the restaurant to ourselves. This food was unlike anything in England, so fresh and delicious.

We went to the beach a couple of times - Torre Cannes. The beaches along the road north of Torre Cannes we found were a lot more secluded then the ones in the main centre.

Overall we had such an amazing week, if only we could have stayed 2 to explore more.

Location

From the Owner

We have had a holiday home in Puglia since September 2008 having fallen in love with the region and spectacular architecture of the Trulli during a visit in May 2008. We have visited at various times of the year and no season disappoints. Spring May - June wonderful sunny warm day with all the blossom and green landscape. Summer July - August when the towns truly come to life with various festivals featuring classical, rock, pop, folk music and the wonderful markets. What better way to end your evening with an ice cream in the Piazza whilst watching a fantastic firework display amazing. Then spend the next day lazily by the pool or at the beach. We love welcoming friends and guests to our home and exploring the abundance of restaurants, shops, and sights together.

Trullo Casolare is in close proximity to many of Puglia’s famous hilltop towns, each with their own character and historical centres quite unspoilt by new development. Within 5 minutes is Castellana Grotte, a beautiful market town with banks, supermarkets, excellent restaurants (open all year round) and the world famous caves, arguably the most beautiful in Europe.

Further Details:

The ancient town of Conversano, steeped in history with a medieval castle dating from Norman times is just 15 minutes and Putignano, a lively ‘buzzing’ town with an abundance of eateries and shops is an easy 15 minutes in the other direction. Within easy reach is the ‘must see’ town of Alberobello a UNESCO heritage site and fascinating place to explore the trulli, the conical shaped houses unique to Puglia. Nearby is Polignano al Mare, a spectacular seaside town built on limestone cliffs and the spectacular circular town of Locorotondo, famous for white wine. The coast is approximately 18km away, with some lovely beaches and coves and for the gourmand, fresh fish and seafood restaurants are in plentiful supply. Other local towns worthy of a visit are Martina Franca, an elegant baroque town that hosts Puglia’s famous outdoor musical festival, and the ‘”White City’ Ostuni with its whitewashed houses and cobbled streets. Slightly further afield, but still within an hour and a half is Lecce, known as the Florence of the South and Matera, the World Heritage Site of the ‘Sassi Caves’ where 'The Passion of the Christ ' was filmed, can be visited in a day trip.
