About Lindy Vipond

My name is Lindy and my husband, Tony, and I have lived in the beautiful Scottish Borders for 25 years. We used to have a fishing tackle and country clothing shop in Kelso, our closest town, and love the area and all it has to offer. We bought the Mill House along with the cottages, where we live, in 1992, and the Mill was in a terrible state. The roof was about to cave in and we dreamt of restoring it to be the stunning property we knew it could be. We eventually 'retired' and decided to make the dream a reality so the mill conversion started. We celebrated the completion with a huge party and were delighted to hold our daughters wedding at home, using the Mill for parties over the weekend and having our closest freinds stay there. It is a magical venue.

Why Lindy Vipond chose Scottish Borders

The Mill and our own cottages are down a long and winding track away from it all on the banks of the River Teviot. The Borders are a beautiful and very quiet area of Scotland that generally get forgotten about as tourists head to the dramatic North but the more gentle slopes and valleys of the country are stunning and peaceful with lots to explore for walkers, history lovers, naturalists and sportsmen and women. The restoration and conversion of the Mill House took 3 years of hard work but we have put our heart and soul, not to mention time, money and tears!, into the Mill House to make it a welcoming, relaxing and peaceful place for our friends and guests to stay.

What makes this house unique

The river is ever present and a constant delight, the wildlife play a huge part in the experience and the vast windows allow you to watch all the activity on the riverbank from your armchair, bed or even bath! We live in the Mill cottages close to the Mill House so if you have any questions, problems or queries we are on-hand. We hope you think the Mill is as beautiful as we do!

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The river wildlife are the biggest attraction and otters, kingfishers and oyster catchers are often seen. There are beautiful walks from the Mill House and a wonderful country house hotel a walk away for a delicious lunch. We do allow dogs to stay but not in the Mill House itself, there are luxury heated kennels provided. There is a garage with parking for 2 cars and ample further parking in the courtyard. Table tennis is available in the garage, that has light but no heat! If you feel brave you can swim in the river! Outside: A large balcony offers a dining area with seating for 10. Outside table and chairs are situated in a secluded corner of the balcony with a barbecue. There is a large outside area, gravelled for cars and a herbaceous border with a seating area. Please be aware the River Teviot, though beautiful, is a large and fast river, parents must be aware of this. Utility Room: The Utility room has a separate drying room with space to for clothing and boots after a long day on the river, hill or golf course. It also has a washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board and an exercise bike, while you wait for the laundry. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Egyptian linen from The White Company is provided and plenty of soft white towels. We also provide luxurious towelling dressing gowns for 7 night stays. Toiletries provided. We offer an optional daily maid service. Other: The large landing has a sofa for a quiet space to read a book or write your postcards! It can also be an extra 'bedroom' as we have 2 collapsible beds for extra guests. These can also be put in the bedrooms for children.
