Lovely spacious house which is sympathetically furnished. Warm and very comfortable with a log stove. Excellent kitchen and washing facilities . Great grounds. Plenty of parking. Very easy access to all main areas of the lakes. Owner was very helpful and friendly. Woukd definitely go again.

Excellent holiday home. Very comfortable.

"Home from home" comfortable cottage. Everything needed for a successful holiday is there. Beautiful hand quilted bed covers and good artwork on the walls. Lovely surroundings and easy access to all lake district favourites. Would not hesitate to go again.

Beautiful, clean cottage - very relaxing

We were a group of 5 adults, 2 children aged 8 and 10 and 2 small dogs and there was plenty of room and didn't feel cramped at all. The cottage itself is lovely, very clean and has everything you could need. We felt instantly relaxed as soon as we arrived and had a mixed week of weather - there is a large boot/mud/utility room which helped with the wet dogs and wet clothes. Location wise it is close to many beautiful villages, shops and places to eat yet tucked away down a quiet country lane. It is worth noting that there is no enclosed garden for the dogs to run around in though which didn't cause us a problem however is worth noting if you have dogs. Overall we had a brilliant time and would definitely return. Communication with the owners prior to our stay was excellent and although they live next door we hardly saw them.

Character cottage, lovely location

We have just enjoyed a lovely week at this cottage. It has so much character, and is even more spacious than it looks in the photos.....everything we needed was provided; it is all clean and very well equipped. Owners extremely helpful, nothing too much trouble. We explored Windermere, Coniston, Grange-over-sands & Grizedale and would heartily recommend Sunday lunch at Hare&Hounds 15 mins drive away at Bowland Bridge. Would love to stay here again! Thank you.

Everything we needed and more!

We have just got back from a fab weekend at Eller How Cottage. We were a group of 8 adults but there was plenty of room and the cottage was so homely that we felt instantly relaxed. One member of our party even enjoyed a fell run straight from the bottom of the garden. The hen's eggs were also much appreciated - we will definitely be back!

Eller How Cottage has been in the family since the early 1980s when it was purchased by Chris' parents. It very accessible for the M6 yet in beautiful countryside (in the National Park) and close to the sea and within easy reach of the central lake district.

Further Details:

The Lake District is a world heritage site of outstand natural beauty. Its soaring mountains and green lush valleys inspired the Romantic poets, Wordsworth, Coleridge, de Qunicy and artists from Turner to Ruskin. The cottage is situated in the Lake District National Park, just ten minutes from the southern end of Lake Windermere and fifteen minutes from junction 36 of the M6. It sits in pleasant wooded gardens. There are sea views from the drive to the house and spectacular views of the Lakeland hills ten minutes walk up the fell behind the house.

The cottage is well placed to suit most interests and needs. There is exceptionally good local food shopping, ( including the UKs' Best Butcher - Higginsons) banks, etc in nearby Grange over Sands. A short distance away is the Medieval Village of Cartmel with its famous priory, Michellin star winner L'Enclume, and distinctly luxurious local food shops.

The cottage is ideally situated for walking the Southern fells or water sports on Windermere and Coniston. Ambleside is half an hour’s drive away.

Whatever the weather there's plenty to do for all ages, including wild-life centres, museums and galleries, steam railway, country houses and gardens.

Don't spend your holiday in the kitchen: The freezer can be pre-stocked with delicious home-cooked ready meals.

  • Notes on accommodation: This is a non smoking property. Most of the interior has been recently refurbished to a high standard. We have tried to retain the sense of being in a well-loved old family home. The furnishings are mostly oak. The sofas etc Ikea /Multi-York. The bedrooms are all in pale creams and neutral tones with colourful patchwork bedspreads over white linen. Wool carpets in all bedrooms, stairs, hallway and landings. The bathrooms all had new shower and bath fittings in 2013. The crockery is traditional period blue and white ware. The house, built over 300 years ago, is oak beamed and full of character features. This a definitely NOT a clone of every other Swedish equipped holiday cottage. Full oil-fired central heating. Basket of logs provided on arrival, additional logs charged at cost. Cot (bedding NOT included), high chair and stair gate available. Outside: Private mature gardens with patio and barbeque. Large tressle table with outdoor chairs and sun-shade for al-fresco dining. Ample on site parking. Parents / dog owners please note there is a beck running next to the cottage and an unfenced pond in the adjacent owner's garden. Please note the garden is not gated. Livestock are in adjoining fields- dog MUST be kept on leads. The house is on our small-holding. We keep rare breed Jacob sheep, assorted hens and (in the summer) a few pigs. The owners live on site in the adjacent converted barn. Utility Room: Washing machine, drying racks, iron and ironing board, upright freezer. Vacuum cleaner. Access to garden and patio. Shower room with WC off. Steps down to kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included. Property cleaned and beds changed weekly following departure.
