The Apple Loft

The Cottage includes a pocket sprung king-size bedroom and bathroom. A comfortable sofa bed in the Lounge and a cot allow sleeping for 4 people plus a cot. The open Kitchen/Dining/Lounge area includes a sofa, sofa bed, dining table seating up to 4, TV/DVD player, radio with CD player, a supply of books and DVD’s and games, and a log burner for cosy Autumn/Winter breaks. The well-equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, electric oven with hob, fridge with a freezer department, microwave oven, toaster, kettle and wine rack. The cottage also includes a washer/dryer. All rooms have geothermal under floor heating.

About Judith Hurford

Julian, myself and 3 children live here at Farwood Barton, Julian was born here, and I moved here when we got married. Julian runs the dairy herd and helps out with the holiday cottages. I run the holiday cottages and do the farm accounts. We live here with 190 dairy cows, approx 40 calves most of the year, with some sheep during the winter, 2 cats Spoldge and Trixey, a working dog called Rex who love catching the ball with the visitors!

Why Judith Hurford chose East Devon

Farwood Barton is a working dairy farm, the farm has been in the family for 3 generations, the original farm buildings in the Victorian Court Yard had got out of date for modern farming practices, they were crying out to be converted in to holiday lets. We converted them in 2009, we now enjoy having visitors staying with us and sharing our beautiful location.

We as a family love living here in the countryside, we enjoy everything the countryside has to offer us, our livelihood, the quietness, our own space, the views, we still enjoy waking up every morning looking out to the wonderful view over the Coly Valley and beyond, summer or winter.

Fantastic - really lovely place

The house was modern, comfortable and clean. It had everything we needed, and a lovely comfortable double bed. It was great being on the farm with all the animals round about. But the thing that really stood out for us was the games room with fully equipped ping pong, table football and a full sized snooker table! We could hardly bear to go to bed! Outside there was even a tennis court! The owners were very welcoming and friendly. We only stayed for 3 nights, and we were not on holiday, so we can't recommend any local restaurants or anything like that - but the farm is a great place to stay - perfect for a family.

Set in such a lovely location, being situated on a working farm is such a lovely idea.

Short drive to many beautiful places to visit making it lovely to come back to a relaxing atmosphere at the end of a busy day!

Wonderful experience will most definitely be returning and sharing the secret with others looking for a beautiful place to stay.

The Apple Lodge, Farwood Barton, Devon

The Apple Lodge is set on a working farm and is perfect for children as there is lots of outdoor space: play vehicles, large games room, garden space and fishing lake along with watching the cows being milked. It exceeded the description given.

The Lodge was very clean on arrival and the owners were friendly and welcoming. Our two young children shared the sofa bed whilst we could watch TV and relax in the downstairs bedroom. The farm has a very rural setting which makes it very quiet and authentic though each day we drove out to the local pebble beaches for walks along the coastline: the nearest sandy beach being Exmouth. We really enjoyed Seatown, Brunscombe and the National Trust owned "A La Ronde" and Killerton.

We would definitely return to this farm for a holiday in the future and would recommend this to friends with young children.

A lovely, quiet cottage in rural Devon

We arrived at 3pm on the Saturday afternoon and received a warm welcome from Judith who showed us to our cottage, 'The Apple Loft' and gave us a guided tour including the garden and the games room. We were absolutely delighted with the cottage and the surroundings and were pleased we'd found such a little gem. The views from The Apple Loft were stunning and to make the most of it the cottage is 'upside down' so the bedroom and bathroom are downstairs and the kitchen, lounge and dining area are upstairs. The so called 'garden' is actually a large field which Bailey, our little dog absolutely loved running around off-lead in. It's completely secure so there was no worry of him escaping. There was a lake on-site where we also walked Bailey and whilst we don't fish you can do so if you wish but would need to take your own equipment.

The cottage itself was a good size and plenty big enough for the two of us and Bailey. It was beautifully clean and the bed linen and towels (of which there were plenty) were clean and fresh. We had taken toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, washing up liquid, cling film, foil, salt and pepper, tea and coffee but we needn't have worried as all of this provided along with sugar, a pint of milk, a tea towel, dishcloth, dishwasher tablets, washing powder tablets and bathroom soap. There was also a bottle of locally produced apple juice there on arrival which was a nice touch. The kitchen was really well equipped, there were all the utensils you'd need and pots, pans, plates, glasses, mugs, bowls, a jug, cutlery, a corkscrew/bottle opener, a vegetable peeler, chopping boards... I could go on but you get the idea. Everything had been thought of which was brilliant. Other nice extras included a stereo in the lounge area and a TV in the bedroom. There was also a washer/dryer under the stairs should you need to use it.

The cottage is in the grounds of a working dairy farm and we loved it. We watched two calves being born which having only ever seen on TV proved fascinating. The two family sheep dogs were very friendly and Bailey seemed very taken with them :o) Judith, her husband, children and staff were all very friendly and approachable and made us feel very welcome and we wouldn't hesitate in booking to stay there again. We only wish we had been able to stay another week but work commitments meant we weren't able to do so unfortunately but we thoroughly enjoyed our week 'on the farm' and look forward to returning.

Superb facilities in beautiful countryside yet near to the coast. Bliss

Lovely immaculate barn conversions with tasteful decor and modern fittings catering for your every need; warm, comfortable and relaxing. Great hospitality and the additional leisure facilities in the games barn are an added bonus. Fantastic setting in beautiful countryside on a working farm but close to Honiton and coastal towns. Everything you need for a relaxing stay. Dog friendly and perfect for a get away break. Couldn't fault a thing - highly recommend to anyone looking for a top class home from home in a peaceful location.
