About the Owner

Decidedly Dorset! We love Dorset, have lived in West Dorset all our lives and we're happy to share our passion about everything Bridport and local. We were Dairy Farmers, sold up in 2002 and moved 10 miles to Highway Farm, it was a big move! We have our roots in the soil with local connections and much involvement and a wealth of local knowledge.

Lovely week at Ganders Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The Baker family, consisting of Grandma, Grandad, Mum, Dad & our 6 month old spent a lovely week at Ganders Cottage.

We were well received by the owners, John and Pauline who were very friendly and helpful.

The cottage was perfect for our needs, the views from the cottage and the surrounding area are just beautiful and we were extremely lucky with the weather, which always makes a difference.

Grandad struggles with his mobility so the downstairs twin room with en suite shower room was perfect for him - although the cottage would be no good for a wheelchair user.

Upstairs was the double room with adjoining bathroom, which had ample space for our travel cot and the bath was great for bathing our boy.

We made good use of the dishwasher, washing machine and rotary washing line during our stay; in fact we hardly had to do any washing at all when we got home - bonus!!!

As the weather was great we also made good use of the BBQ and the sun loungers from the summer house. The garden was great for our little one as it is enclosed.

We visited places that had mobility access & wheelchair hire such as Weymouth, Yeovil (Fleet Air Arms) & Montacute House and could definitely recommend the Fleet Air Arms museum. Weymouth has a lovely Punch and Judy stand for youngsters.

Local Bridport has a fantastic leisure centre with training pool and also is a great shopping centre for all the provisions you need during a holiday.

We sampled the delicious food at the local pub the Illchester Arms too.

We would definitely stay at Ganders Cottage again should we be visiting Dorset again in the future.

Owner's Response: Rosemary. Lovely to meet you all, and baby Leo was a delight. Thank you for taking the trouble to write. Sometimes we have Granny and Grandpa to stay for B&B in the farmhouse next door where they can enjoy leisurely breakfasts and a little time away! There's a ground floor room with a walk in shower that would suit Dad. Look forward to seeing you again, soon.

There are simply stunning views from every aspect of our farmhouse with Colmers Hill, our local iconic hill, in full view and a joy. We walk daily with our dogs over Eype downs towards to sea and we love Bridport, it's arty, foodie, full of fun and festivals with lovely weekly market days and it's friendly with lots going all year round. Many of our guests fall in love with Dorset and keep coming back for more!
