Our Family run holiday home, Shelterstone is situated on the edge of Keswick, ideal for getting out and exploring the Lake District or just popping down in to the town. The property in the heart of the Lake District boasts great views of the Lakeland fells, Latrigg and Blencathra to mention a couple. The generous plot mean parking is in abundance with plenty of garden and patio space to use on those warm summer days. There is also an integral garage for our guests to use either to store bike or even the car.

About Craig Peart

We loved visiting the Lake District as a family and have spent many days climbing the local fells and visiting the local attractions over the years cementing my love for the area. So I jumped at the chance to look after and run Shelterstone (also Ferndale & Orchard House) not only to spend more time in the lakes but to let people enjoy visiting the Lakes.

Our family love the area, the north lake is a beautiful area with so much to do. Shelterstone is situated in Keswick which we love to visit.

The area is so easy to access from the house with a great choice of walks, Lakes and attractions on hand.

What makes this bungalow unique

The property is spacious and cosy benefiting from the views to the Lakeland hills which surround Keswick. The house has plenty of parking, patio and garden space.

The house has a play roonm for the children so they can play and watch dvd's while you relax in the lounge.

Included in the rent is use of the Keswick pool and gym for upto six guests.

  • The modern bathroom is split into two, a bath/shower and sink in one and the toilet next door. Both on the ground floor. The bathroom benefits from a modern white suite and a tiled floor great for a relaxing soak after a long walk!

  • Description of sleeping capacity: Sleeps 6 (3 Bedrooms) Notes on bedrooms: The three bedrooms, a double and twin downstairs and a further twin in the attic. The downstairs twin is very spacious with plenty of room for a travel cot and views to the lakeland hills through a large bay window. All rooms have radio alarm clocks.

Notes on accommodation: The bungalow has three bedrooms, a double and twin downstairs and a further twin in the atic. The double has a DAB radio alarm clock. There is a large kitchen/dining area with plenty of equipment and utensil to prepare meals. Also Keswick is home to a diverse range of restaurants, pubs and bakeries so the choice is yours. The lounge on the front of the house benifits from the veiw to the hills and makes for a cosy night in front of the 32inch Led tv with Freesat HD and DVD. The modern bathroom is split into two, a bath and shower in one and the toilet next door. There is also a playroom upstairs where the children can play and watch dvd's which we find to be a really useful space. There is gas central heating and double glazing throughout making this a cosy property any time of year. Included in the rental (TILL THE END OF 2016) is the use of Keswick Leisure Pool and gym. The pool is great for children of all ages with the sloping beach area providing easy entry, a 30m water slide and wave machine. (NOT INCLUDED IN 2017) Outside: The cottage is built on a generous plot with parking for serveral cars. There is a large patio area and a rear garden great for those warm summer days. The house also has an intergrated garage which is great for storing bikes, a boat or even a car. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Included in the price is the gas, electric, bedding, Towels and a welcome pack. We also have two other properties advertised, one in Keswick and one in Greystoke near Penrith, Ferndale and Orchard House please take a look if this is not suitable.

Good cosy house for a winter trip with plenty of parking.

Shared this house with 4 friends over new year. Comfortable and warm once we got the hang of the heating controls. A good shower. Room in the kitchen to dry our wet clothes while cooking and eating. Everything in good working order and room in the garage for our bikes. It's quite a walk into Keswick and uphill on the way back but a very short drive. The electric fire in the lounge was a bit feeble but it was below freezing while we were there and the central heating is pretty good.

Comfortable clean bungalow and well equipped inside. Outside requires some attention as looks a bit shabby on arrival eg gutters. The drive is very uneven as turn into property.

There were a lot of flies in the kitchen when we arrived which was a bit concerning until we had got rid of them.

On the whole good value for money.

Special interest holidays:

Keswick just 20 minutes from junction 40 on the M6, is easily accessed down the A66 driving right in to the heart of the Lake District. Breathtaking scenary surrounds this popular Lakeland town as it is situated on the shores of Derwent Water and close to both Bassenthaite and Ullswater. There are some great family hills like Catbells or challenging peaks like Skiddaw which one of the highest in the Lake Districk.

There are many nearby attractions and extensive aray of lakes and fells to explore. Vist Whinlatter forest where you can walk, bike or even climb through the trees -'Go Ape' is great for a challenge. View the only pair of Osprays in England which nest in the trees around Bassenthaite. On a wet day, The Rheged visitors centre which is 15 minutes down the road is great with shops, cafes, children play area and I-max cinema. Also at Honistor Slate mine you can scale the rock face of the famous Fleetworth Pike or explore the mine shafts deep into the mountain itself.


There is plenty of choice when it comes to eating out with a great selection of eateries on the doorstep within walking distance. There is a varity of restaurants, hotels and lots of great pubs serving home cooked food and lakeland ale. Fish and chips are a firm favourite or why not vist one of the delicious Keswicks bakeries.

Further Details:

The Lake District has many impressive mountains, open fells and beautiful lakes. The landscape has inspired several literary greats, including William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. You can cruise on a steam-powered yacht or walk the hills and valleys. There are simply so many great ways to explore the Lake District.

For the serious walker, the mountains of Skiddaw, Helvellyn or the highest peak in England, Scaffell Pike provide a great challenge. At lower levels there are hundreds of routes wandering among the lakes and

stone-walled fields.

You can even choose a lake to suit your mood: if bustling lakeside towns and exhilarating watersports take your fancy, then Windermere, Derwent Water and Coniston Water will suit. If its peace and tranquility you seek then the secluded lakes of Buttermere and Wastwater are not to be missed. Yet Cumbria offers much more than the lakes alone. Explore the National Nature Reserve on Walney Island or visit the picturesque Duddon Valley, where the heather clad moors peppered with birch trees inspired many of Wordsworths poems.

There are a variety of castles, old statley homes and interesting Slate buildings accross the area. You can even visit a working Slate mine and learn how the process begins. Whinlatter and Grizdale forrests are great for mountain biking and walking, you can even Go Ape and climb through the trees. To the east lies the green and sheltered Eden Valley. Its dramatic landscape provides a range of activities including walking, cycling and watersports making for a perfect family day out.

Booking Notes:
To book our property we would need a completed booking form and a £100 deposit either pay by cheque or bacs. The balance is due three weeks before the start of your holiday. No smoking, pets or single sex groups.

Changeover Day:
Change over is Saturday, but we also do short breaks so please check our calendar MINIMUM 3 NIGHTS.

NO smoking, Pets (No exceptions) thank you. Single sex groups only on agreement with owner. Please just give us a call.

Manager's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
