Cottage in Cubert, Nr. Newquay, Cornwall, England - Tucked Away Position, 1.5 Miles To Nearest Beac

This 400 year old cosy Cornish Stone Cottage sleeping four people and up to two dogs, is situated at the end of a terrace of four similar whitewashed properties close to the beautiful church in the friendly and thriving village of Cubert. Approximately 1.5 miles from Holywell Bay. The Cubert village has several shops including a small supermarket with Post Office, a Fish & Chip shop and several pubs.

The nearest beach is the iconic Holywell Bay, a stunning long stretch of soft sand backed by sand dunes, approx 1.5 miles away and often used as a film location for both Poldark and the Rosemary Pilcher films. Children will enjoy exploring the various rock-pools and caves at low tide, making dams in the stream and climbing and sliding down the huge sand dunes. There is a fabulous surf school where whole family can enjoy learning to surf on one of the most splendid beaches in the U.K. and is dog friendly throughout the year.

There are many other incredible beaches nearby, you will be spoilt for choice. Towards Newquay you will find Crantock, Porth Joke, Fistral, Lusty Glaze, Watergate Bay among others. West of Holywell sits popular Perranporth with it's famous bar on the beach, all are ideal for surfing/body boarding, rock-pooling and sunbathing, most have lifeguards from May to September.

The cottage location is ideal for exploring the sights of Cornwall. Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Ives, St Agnes and Padstow are all easy to reach by car.

For walkers there are endless pathways all around the village, Cubert Common is a sandy grassland and home to abundant flora and fauna and the SW coast path is around a 20 minute walk away. The rugged cliff tops along this part of the coast are stunning all year round but particularly in Spring when the flowers are at their best.

The cottage entrance itself is surrounded in honeysuckle and leads you through a tiled porch area, with storage for coats and into a small beamed living/dining room with some low doorways and an inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove. There is a sofa, armchair & coffee table and a small foldaway dining table with four chairs for guests to set up as required. There is a well equipped galley kitchen to the back of the property, with fridge-freezer, oven and gas hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, the cupboards are well stocked with crockery, plenty of glasses and cooking pots and pans. The doorway from the kitchen leads to a utility area with washing machine, tumble dryer and downstairs cloakroom.

Steep open tread wooden stairs lead from the living space upstairs where there is a large main bedroom at the front of the property with exposed wooden floors, thick pile rugs and comfy King Size bed with colourful bedding and plenty of storage. There is a smaller pretty twin bedroom to the back of the property, along with a newly tiled family bathroom with bath and shower over.

The cottage is warmed by gas central heating and a pretty wood-burning stove. There is no electric meter, electricity and gas is included within the rental price. Super fast fibre optic wi-fi is available and free to use.

The garden to the side of the cottage has a small lawn with BBQ area at one end, Weber BBQ, solid wooden garden furniture and rotary dryer. There is a paved area immediately to the front of the cottage with wooden bench.

The shared driveway is within 10 yards of the front door. The parking is shared with the holiday cottage next door and you park one behind the other.

We moved to Cornwall in 2010 with our two children and numerous pets after spending many memorable summer holidays here, firstly camping and then staying in our wonderful holiday home which we purchased in 2007.

The cottage is now available to rent all year round, the village of Cubert and it's surrounding area is wonderful place to visit at any time of year, the locals are friendly and welcoming, the location is stunning, there are so many amazing beaches, walks and stunning scenery

We are blessed with beautiful countryside and beaches, the surf, the wildlife, pubs, unique shops and attractions.

The cottage is full of character that we love, the 3 foot thick walls, the low doorways and the quirky layout. Also knowing that we are just a short distance from the ocean is a real bonus!

Outside: To the side of the cottage is a small private fully enclosed garden with a lawn and flower beds. There is a BBQ for guests to use and hardwood garden furniture consisting of a table and two bench seats. Utility Room: Washing Machine Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, tea towels and a towelling bathroom mat are supplied and included in the price. During the Winter months we also provide a basket of seasoned logs and some kindling free of charge.

I have to be honest and say that comparing value for money against other cottages I have stayed in through other sites I was disappointed. I would not go so far as to complain. However I keep getting emails asking for a review so finally I have decided to write something. I thought that for the rate we were paying one should not find that the only table and chairs to eat at were away stacked under the stairs and had to be put away again each time as there was very little room in the living area to accommodate them staying out. The site sais there is a Dinning Area! The kitchen is a galley type and only room for one person at a time. The parking was shared (as the site explains) but not explained that the shared is parking one car behind the other with another rental cottage (different owner as I understood) so I found it a little awkward thinking I might have to 'disturb' the other cottage if need be (and likewise they disturb us) to get our car out . There was little information inside the cottage and I sort of guessed how to use the heating thermostat. Site refers to Golf and Kayak/Canoe as well as a BBQ and garden outside. I never saw the golf nor remember seeing a kayak! Finally I think that the patch of mould on the bathroom and stair ceiling is not good. Having said that, otherwise the cottage is well decorated, but there was a musty smell when we first entered. Sadly I could not find any tourist information in the cottage. Usually there are guides, maps etc. on what to see, where to eat, and so on which is all part of the fun. As I say, 'you' did ask! There are lots of happy guests notes in the Visitor Book though.

Perfect base for our family holiday.

We found the cottage to be very comfortable and ample for ourselves, 2 children and 2 dogs. The amenities in the village were very useful and we found a short walk to Smugglers Den across the fields. Great base for Perranporth and Newquay. We'd love to come back in winter so we can use the log burner! Kate was very helpful leading up to and during our stay and we highly recommend this cottage and it's location. Thanks Kate, we'll be back if you'll have us!

We had a lovely week in this beautiful little cottage. It had everything we needed for our family. Local eggs, butter & bread were waiting for us which was a nice touch. Will definitely recommend.

Cosy quaint little cottage in friendly village location.

The property was just as described, full of character, clean, well equipped and only 5 minutes drive to the local beach at Holywell Bay. The neighbours were friendly, the location is ideal for visiting fantastic beaches, there's a handy shop and post office in the village and Newquay is less than 10 minutes away for tourist attractions etc.

For our 2 night visit in March, the cottage was equipped with good quality bedding, towels etc, logs for the little wood burning stove and even a few groceries in the kitchen (milk, coffee, bread, eggs).

All in all, a great place for a short break or a week away on the lovely Cornish coast.

Changeover Day:
Changeover is Saturday but we are flexible out of season.

Notes on prices:
Weekly rents and short breaks available.
In the event of cancellation by the hirer, they shall be liable for the whole cost of the booking unless the property can be re-let for the cancelled period, in which case the owners will refund the rent minus the deposit and less any expenses incurred. You are strongly advised to take out holiday insurance.
The cottage shall be occupied only by those named on the booking form. Occupancy shall not exceed the number of persons stated on the form.
The accommodation shall be available from 4pm on the arrival day and vacated by 10am departure day.
The hirer shall be responsible for any breakages during the course of their stay.
The cottage shall be left clean and tidy.
The owner's are not liable for the hirer's personal effects.
No smoking.
The hirer's vehicle parked in the designated parking area is parked at the hirer's own risk.
The owners or the owner's representative reserves the right to enter the property at any reasonable time provided reasonable notice is given to hirer.
If the hirer commits a serious breach of these terms and conditions such as smoking in the cottage, or where your behaviour, or your guests is likely to have significant adverse affect on the residents or people living nearby the property. The owners will try to act reasonably but if the situation is untenable the owners or their agent shall ask you to leave immediately. Unless the owners are able to let the cottage at short notice or for the remainder of the hirer's stay, no refund of fees you have paid will be returnable to you.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
