Spacious Farmhouse, Peninsula Location, Sheltered Gardens

Updated: 11-Nov-2016
Farmhouse in Beuzec Cap Sizun, Nr. Quimper, Finistere, Brittany, France - Eco renovation, Located In Small Hamlet, Nearest Village And Nearest Beach 3 Km, Nearest Town 4 Km

This classic old farmhouse is ideal for an extended group of friends or family to spend time together on three floors. Out of season it can be great for smaller groups of 6 or less people using just the first floor bedrooms. It is sunny and sheltered in summer, cosy in winter with wood fired central heating.

The present farmhouse was built in 1869 on the site of an older building, reusing the stones. The heart of the property is the large farmhouse kitchen. The house has been sympathetically and ecologically renovated, preserving the original qualities. Hot water comes from a solar thermodynamic system, and in the winter radiators are heated by a wood stove with boiler. As available we can offer you fresh vegetables from the garden. Visitors have use of private gardens and the central courtyard, with its simple summer kitchen.

The house is set in farmland, extremely peaceful and countrified. But nearby are busy small towns with all facilities, and the sea. Cap Sizun is lively with arts events, summer festivals, good summer markets and a range of bars, cafes and boulangeries. The closeness of the sea in every direction makes it an ideal base for walking, swimming, cycling, sailing, fishing.

About the Owner

Before moving to France we were art college tutors in Spatial Design and Drawing. This project puts into practice our particular choices in design, technical and aesthetic solutions. There has been a settlement here for a long time, the present farmhouse being built on the site of an older building, reusing the stones. We also reclaimed and salvaged where possible and used ecological solutions for the building work.

Our second visit and a very enjoyable one. First time visitors came as our guests: 'comfy beds and beautifully restored, tastefully decorated house!' The Madden family

Merveilleuses vacances dans la jolie 'ferme cachée'... Nous avons aimé les baignades dans l'eau limpide et fraiche... Pour la reste, barbecue parties ou petanque dans le petit jardin. Phillippe et Stefanie H

Wonderful property in a beautiful setting

We recently had a weeks holiday at the Farmhouse near Beuzec Cap Sizun, with 4 children - 7, 8, 10,11 and our dog. We had a fabulous time, the owners are very nice, plenty of entertainment in and around the house, backgammon, cards and boules court in the garden are few to name. Beaches nearby are fab, you can go to different one each day and they all are about 10 - 15 minutes drive. Lovely walks on the coastal paths or near the Farmhouse. Rooms were great size and beds very comfortable, mosquito nets very useful. Food was excellent, lots of choice where to buy fresh local produce, and owners of the farmhouse were very generous in sharing their vegetable garden with us. The nearest town Audierne has great shops for food and wine, the bakery and fishmongers were our two favorites. Overall we had a great time and memorable holiday!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the positive feedback! The boules / petanque court was new this year, and it is good to know that people enjoyed it.

We stayed for a fortnight in this charming property - peaceful surroundings, well equipped kitchen, friendly and helpful owners next door who have restored the farmhouse imaginatively and kept its character intact. There was a delightful welcome pack, ample linen, hot water always available (and eco-friendly!) and a share in the organic veg fresh from the owners' kitchen garden - much appreciated. The terrace area was great - barbecues and card games! - and our teenagers also enjoyed lounging in the pretty garden. The coast around the peninsula is beautiful - excellent footpaths and plenty of opportunity to cycle. Lovely towns, villages, coves & beaches in every direction, fabulous local market produce available and plenty of summer festivals going on. We hired kayaks to paddle up the nearby river estuary and met a pelican! The owners were really helpful when our travel plans went awry at the start of the holiday and they managed to make a middle-of-the-night arrival seem like a homecoming! Only minor snags for us were building dust settling on kitchen shelves/pots/pans (temporary problem) and lots of flies & mosquitos (for which we will prepare when we return!) If you can take bikes with you, as we did, it will really add to your enjoyment. Very highly recommended and excellent value for a large crowd like ours!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the positive review from our first guests. Its great to have our vision for the house become a reality. The insects in Brittany surprised us as well! We are now putting in screens on the bedroom windows, which should help.

From the Owner

We love living in this part of southern Brittany, and find the people and the varied landscapes of the peninsula delightful. We got to know it over 10 years or so as we always passed through in travelling from channel ports, and made a point of stopping as it was so distinctive. Within close reach of the house are lively towns, bigger cities, good shopping, great walks and cycle rides, and its surrounded by sea. Its countrified but not isolated, which we like.

The great chimney place has become the cooking focal point again, as it was when the house was built. This large 'heart' room accommodates groups of friends or family easily, with ample room to spend time together.
