Great family house with child friendly garden. Sleeps 12, a 5 double bedroom 'Perigourdine' style chalet house which sits in the middle of a secluded south facing 2 acre garden with private, fenced swimming pool. Double doors to large hallway. Following renovations, there are 3 large bedrooms on the first floor all with ceiling fans and all en suite plus 2 bedrooms to the ground floor both with french doors to the garden. Large ground floor bathroom/shower/wc., ideal for those that are less able. All the beds are new with top quality mattresses. Well equipped kitchen plus utility room. Kitchen open plan with dining area with table that seats 10 and lounge with log burning stove (for winter guests). 2 sets of french doors to garden. There is a study with computer available for guests to use. WIFI. New large terrace with table seating 12 comfortably. Barbeque. Wonderfully private and quiet and yet just a few minutes to the Boulangerie. The property is situated on a hill about 5 minutes from the market town of Riberac with a large Lerclerc supermarket and all the usual shopping facilities. Brilliant market on Fridays with lots of fresh, locally grown fruit and veg.

I live in England with my husband Jon. We have two married sons and 4 grandchildren. When we retired, we wanted a project and to spend more time in France which we love. We 'escape' to France whenever we can.

Why Sandy St John chose Villetoureix

We first fell in love with this part of France 35 years ago when we made the first of many visits to friends who had bought a property in Lusignac. We just loved the peace and tranquillity of the beautiful countryside and visiting the many delightful towns and villages and sampling the local cuisine. We always wanted to buy a property in this area and finally had the opportunity in 2012. After much searching, we finally bought Le Paillere (the Hayfield). We have had 5 brilliant family summer holidays with the grandchildren and plan to have many more.

What makes this villa unique

Without a doubt the garden and swimming pool. All kids love a swimming pool and spend hours each day splashing around and having fun.

We love the style of the property and the fact that there are 2 downstairs bedrooms and a bathroom which makes it suitable for elderly visitors.

The property underwent substantial building works on the first floor in 2013 to provide 3 large bedrooms, all en-suite plus of course the 2 ground floor bedrooms. In 2014 a fully fitted kitchen and utility room were provided and in 2015 we had a large terrace built at the rear with a new large dining table for 12 plus settees for lounging. We love the peace, tranquility and seclusion to just wander around and do exactly as we please, particularly long, lazy lunches in the garden, followed by a swim and sunbathing.

Coast/Beach:

The famous beach at Arcachon is approximately 2 hours away. However there is a 'river beach' on the River Dronne at Aubeterre (15 minutes drive), officially listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. It's great fun for children with a swing park, diving board, sandy beach and beach café. The village itself has much to offer the 'culture vulture, together with wonderful cafés and restaurants. The Lac de Jemaye with windsurfing, canoeing, sandy beaches etc is about half an hour away.

Travel:

The property is situated about 1 hours drive north of Bergerac airport (flights with Ryanair, FlyBe) or 90 minutes from Bordeaux (Easyjet, British Airways). Car hire is essential. We are 500 miles from Calais, an early crossing finds you sitting with a glass of wine in plenty of time for dinner (approximately 8 hours).

Distances:

Riberac to the south is about 5 minutes by car and provides all your everyday needs - supermarket, boulangerie , butcher, banks, restaurants etc. Fabulous market every Friday. Verteillac is a charming village about 8 km to the north with a selection of small shops, cafes and restaurants including boulangerie, boucherie/charcuterie and Merlauds, the most interesting shop you could wish to find. It sells everything from a packet of biscuits to a ride-on mower. Saturday morning market.

Further Details:

There is a bustling, traditional French country market every Friday in Riberac where you can buy the most wonderful fresh local produce. A visit to Brantome is a must, one of the most beautiful historic towns of the region. Situated on the river, it's about a 40 minute drive and a lovely place to spend the day, looking at the magnificent Abbey, browsing the interesting small shops or sampling the wonderful traditional cuisine in the many riverside restaurants. Then there is the canoeing which is great fun for children and adults alike. A wonderful area to explore whether on foot or by bike.

Notes on accommodation: The upstairs has been recently renovated and now provides 3 large bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms and ceiling fans. Newly fitted kitchen and utility room. The accommodation lends itself to great family holidays with grandparents, children and grandchildren (as we have) or 2 or 3 families wanting to share. Outside: The 2 acre garden is a children’s' paradise. It is very private and secure with remotely operated gates leading to a curving driveway and plenty of space for cars. The garden has numerous trees, including fruit trees in large grassy areas and slopes very gently with lovely views to the valley below. At the bottom of the garden is our private wood, the perfect place for adventurous kids to play. There is ample space for kids to run around, swing on the tyre swing, play ball games, table tennis etc but without a doubt, the main attraction is the 10m x 5m swimming pool with a security fence for peace of mind. It has a shallow shelf all around the edge, ideal for the less confident swimmer. A sun terrace and lawn surround the pool with 6 sunbeds, 2 reclining chairs all with cushions. Relief from the sun is provided by the many mature trees and a 4m x 2m gazebo. There are 2 outdoor tables one with 12 chairs and one with 6. Ample parasols. For that after lunch nap there is a double hammock. Utility Room: Newly fitted utility room adjoining the kitchen. Equipment includes washing machine, ironing board and iron, ample storage cupboards. Door to front garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen provided. The property is thoroughly cleaned before and after each rental. Additional towels and linen are provided for guests to use, if required. (for those staying 2 weeks). There is a cot, highchair and 2 stairgates available. Other: Downstairs study with French doors to garden. Computer available for guests. WiFi. A lovely room with views of the garden should you need to do any work at the computer whilst on holiday.

Superb holiday gite in a beautiful setting

This is most definitely the best holiday gite we have ever stayed in!

It is immaculate throughout, beautifully decorated and furnished and equipped with everything you could possibly need - a real home from home.

The house is suitable for larger family groups and is exceptionally spacious throughout.

The whole family loved relaxing on the new patio area, and in the pool area and there are numerous games to keep children and teenagers entertained in the garden.

The location is perfect for exploring the delights of the Dordogne region with its picturesque towns and villages.

Wonderful Villa, amazing holiday with friends

We stayed at this wonderful villa with family and friends, total of 5 adults and 5 children. We were expecting something pretty good from the description and we weren't disappointed. This villa was perfect for all our needs. Very well equipped to accommodate cooking and relaxing with the children having fun in the cooling pool and extensive garden with table tennis. We had lovely weather and enjoyed exploring the local area, including Riberac, Brantome and Aubeterre. We were all sad to leave and would definitely stay again. Thank you

This was our second visit to this lovely "home from home" having had 2 holidays at Le Paillere making some

wonderful family memories.

The house is spacious and airy and beautifully decorated with all the amenities you could think of everything has been thought of here. The beautiful garden and grounds with flowers, fruit trees and herbs are something to be admired and the new addition of terrace and outdoor eating area was also fabulous. The kids and big kids loved to pool too! The house is close to all amenities, lots to see and do we particularly enjoyed Verteillac night market and Aubeterre river beach. Wonderful place

Just returned from our second year at this wonderful gite. The new sun deck is a perfect addition to what was already an amazing property. The gardens are truly magical with lots of wildlife encouraged to visit. The masses of butterflies added to the magic for the children. The house is a great size with plenty of space to find that moment of tranquility by yourself or to get together as a large family over dinner. All the essential provisions are there with a few extras you didn't think you would need. The house is well decorated and very well maintained making this truly a home from home. The house is perfectly situated only a 5 minute drive from all the amenities (and Friday market) of Riberac as well as being perfectly placed to explore this picturesque area of France. Thank you for another wonderful holiday. Hopefully see you again next year.

Wow what a place

What a house garden and pool

House is huge lots of space everything in it is good quality and all works

Garden is massive in the sun all day and evening kids spend hours running around

Pool big with lots of pool toys to keep kids amused

We were 3 generations from 54ish!!! Down to 7 months and the house was ideal

Well recommended for large family's with children

Dog friendly the dog only came in the evening to go to sleep

Sandy on email any time for emails and answered promptly

First class house I would say the best one we have hired through France and been doing it many years

The listing description is accurate but I would say when get here you would say wow !!

Clean on arrival and well maintained

Would recommend to anyone do come to see for yourself you will not be disappointed

Booking Notes:
An initial deposit of 25% secures your booking. The balance plus a £250 security deposit for damage/breakages etc is payable 6 weeks before the commencement of the rental. Providing there is no damage or breakages, the security deposit is refundable within 7 days of your departure.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday. Please arrive no earlier than 4pm and depart by 10 am. This allows time for beds to be made and any cleaning to be carried out. On departure, please strip the beds and leave bedding in utility room. Please leave the property as you found it. Out of peak season, changeover day may be flexible.
