Villa in Petit Bersac, Riberac, Dordogne - Peaceful, tranquil location, with garden and BBQ
Nestled in a peaceful hamlet on the Dordogne/Charente border, with the imposing Chateau Mas de Montet nearby and marvellous views of the countryside, Maison Eminence is one of 6 houses in the peaceful hamlet of Sautepaille. It is private, and has own parking area. There is approximately 1 acre of secluded garden surrounding the villa. The villa is within 5 kms of Aubeterre Sur Dronne (Les plus beaux villages de France) with its underground/monolithic church of St Jean, and 7 kms from the village of Saint Severin and its pleasant outdoor café. Just 11 kms away in Riberac, you will find all the amenities of a typically French bustling market town, market day is held every Friday morning.

Excellent well equipped holiday home
What a great property, it exceeded our expectations. The house is clean and very well equipped for self catering. The facilities such as the pool, outdoor eating terrace and hidden first floor balcony make this a great place to have fun and relax in private. The location offers the best of both worlds, peace and quiet yet within easy reach of Aubeterre with it's boulangerie, restaurants and bars. There's plenty of culture and things to do there too.
Lovely holiday home in a rural setting
Nice spacious property for a family group of 6. Lovely swimming pool and paved area with views over the countryside. Nice shaded seated area outside for meals and also large dining area for inside. House is in a rural setting which is lovely and peaceful but this does mean a drive to local shops and town. We had a few lovely hot days and stayed by the pool and a few wet days where we appreciated the games and books in the house. Good BBQ area for any weather. Nice quiet roads in the area and my husband enjoyed cycling around the countryside. We would be happy to return for another week.
Beautiful spacious property with beutiful views
We stayed at Maison Eminence for one week. There were 4 adults and 4 children and the gite felt very spacious. It was cleaned well and the beds were very comfortable. Everything about the gite is special. It is full of character with quirky little windows and exposed stone work. It is very private, not overlooked by anyone. The weather was very hot on some days, but the gite stayed noticeably cool. The kitchen was very well equipped and the 2 showers were powerful with constant hot water. All towels including pool towels are provided which is a great bonus. The seating areas are ideally situated, and the views from the property across the vast countryside are amazing. The luxury of having your own pool can never be underestimated. It is much better than sharing with others and is something we try to ensure we have when on holiday. The area itself is also very beautiful with towns like Aubeterre nearby. We also enjoyed Kayaking and cycling and the walk to "Le Vin Doux" restaurant in Petit Bersac was well worth the 30 minutes each way. We would highly reconmmend this property and would definitely return in the future to visit the area and enjoy another stay "Maison Eminence".
We stayed for a week for our honeymoon. We loved it here. The house and grounds were just beautiful and it is very quiet and peaceful place to stay. You can drive to the local village in a few mins (or a 30 min walk) where the boulangerie does amazing fresh bread, croissants and sweet treats. You can get everything you need in the bigger town of Riberac which was a 20 min drive. A car is a must for staying here as there are lots of lovely places to visit in the surrounding area but not much accessible by walking/bikes. We were really impressed at how equipped the house was, things like dishwasher tablets and cling film were much appreciated! The house has so many great places to sit: there’s a lovely balcony for the evening, terrace for a BBQ, gardens for the afternoon and a great pool side! As well as sofas and a meal table in the house. The only thing which we thought could have been better was that the pool hadn’t been cleaned prior to our arrival so there were a fair amount of flies and small frogs (!) in it. The gardener came round on our first day so we didn’t mind too much.
"We love this place"
What a hidden gem, we have now stayed here twice and love it. Tucked away in the beautiful French countryside this charming villa has so much character and the large private garden and secluded swimming pool are perfect for us. The house itself is a really good size, is in very good condition and has everything you could need. Infact with the al fresco dining area and gas bbq we cooked most nights and sat out till late.
The location is great too, its only a short drive to lovely local villages and to shop or visit the market then Riberac is only 10 mins by car too. Its a great base to explore the surrounding areas and we love the kayaking along the local rivers.
Cant recommend this house enough and both times we have rented our deposit has been refunded in full and promptly.
What a delight! We came away for a week early season, not sure of what to expect - or what the weather would be like! We were not disappointed. The house is fully equipt, and so homely. The bedrooms are well furnished, in fact, the whole house is. I don't think we wanted for anything the whole time.
Location wise, it was ideal, so quiet and peaceful, pure relaxation. We walked to the restaurant in Petit Bersac - the menu du jour was very good indeed. Auberterre-sur-Dronne is a short drive away, as is the Golf Club at Longeveau. The gardens are well kept, and paths well lit. We had a wonderful day out in Brantome. On summary, a beautiful well maintained house, in a beautiful part of France. We are looking forward to returning.
Activity and Interests
Aubeterre Sue Dronne and St Aulay both have River Beaches with children’s play area and a café/restaurant.
Bordeaux (90 minute drive) and Bergerac (75 minute drive) are the two main nearest airports, both serviced by low cost airlines. Ferry's are also great way to break up journey, Brittany Ferries to St Malo / Caen / Cherbourg, LD Lines to Le Havre and P+O Ferries to Dover. There is also the Euro Tunnel which from Calais is around 8 hour drive.
Car / car hire is necessary if you are flying, as there is limited public transport.
Petit Bersac (our neighbouring village of 3km) has a traditional family run boulengerie, and either of the delightful market towns of Verteillac or Riberac have larger general stores for bank/cash machine, pharmacy, hairdresser and restaurants/cafes. We are lucky enough to have an abundance of restaurants serving locally sourced good food, and plenty of markets, selling amongst other things delicacies such as oysters, fois gras, cheese and local wines – a food lovers paradise!
Behind our local Chateau (Mas de Montet) which is a stones throw away, there are cycling/walking paths which are a great way to enjoy the fresh countryside air and beautiful views. Manoir de Longveau with its 9 hole golf course and tennis courts, also has a children’s play areas and crèche facility.
In Aubeterre sur Dronne you will find a baker, excellent butcher for those BBQs at home, tabac/newsagents and restaurant situated in the village square with narrow cobbled streets for al fresco lunch/dinner or that well deserved glass of Rosé.
Just a short drive to Bors de Montmoreau, and found down a long tree lined road surrounded by vines, you will find Chateau Des Plassons which specialises in cognac and the local aperitif pineau. Tours and tasting should not be missed!
About a 40 minute drive will take you to the medieval town of Brantome, with its imposing Benedictine Abbey, on the picturesque river Dronne, founded in 769. The Bell Tower is the oldest in France, and caves are clearly visible which were used by the monks as kitchens and cellars. The town sits on two converging rivers and a stroll along the riverside is an unforgettable experience. There are boat trips and canoes available which are highly recommended. There are many restaurants dotted around the town to discover and enjoy.
A short drive from Brantome, you come to the picturesque village of Bourdeilles where there are two chateaux of different periods built on a fortified hill, one from the medieval period of 13th – 14th century and the other from the Renaissance (16th).
