The gîtes are perfectly situated for a relaxing holiday, enjoying wine-tasting in the local vineyards or exploring the famous Loire Valley châteaux. Le Clos de la Rose is situated in the historic medieval village of Le Puy Notre Dame. It is a charming wine-making village set in a conservation area in the beautiful countryside of the Regional Loire-Anjou-Touraine Natural Park which is great for walking and cycling. Le Puy Notre Dame is designated a “Village de Charme” and a “Petite Cité de Caractère” and is dominated by a massive collegiate church which dates back to the 12th century. The village bakery, where you can get your fresh breakfast croissants and baguettes and other delights, is only a minute's walk away from Le Clos de la Rose. The village also has a restaurant and a bar as well as a pharmacy, a hairdresser’s a garage and a tourist office which is open in the summer. It also has a grocery shop with a fresh meat counter. A much larger selection of supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants is available only 10 minutes’ drive away in both nearby Doué la Fontaine and Montreuil Bellay. The gîtes are well placed for you to visit the beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley and numerous other historical places of interest in the area.
Le Clos de la Rose is a traditional “Corps de Ferme” (farmstead) with honey coloured limestone buildings surrounding a large courtyard. Many of our outbuildings (some of which date back to the 18th century) were used for wine-making. We have two well equipped gîtes (La Maison du Vigneron and La Maison d’Amis) and an additional large suite (Le Grenier) which may be available if booked in conjunction with either gîte for larger groups. They are all completely non-smoking and give flexibility for comfortably accommodating from one person to a party of nine. The gîtes have been lovingly restored to provide you with comfort and style whilst maintaining their original charm and character. Our gîtes look out onto the large courtyard which also offers our guests secure, covered parking (ideal for visitors with classic cars). Each gîte has its own patio where you can sit and enjoy al fresco dining.
The courtyard is spacious with a sun terrace, lawn area and trees. We have recently created a new rose garden with a fountain in the courtyard for our guests to enjoy. In addition there is plenty of other outside space where you can laze about and read, either in the sun or in the shade whichever you prefer. There are sun loungers and other chairs for our guests to use. At the end of the courtyard, there is a gate leading to the large secret garden and orchard which is perfect for having fun or relaxing in. It is an ideal place to enjoy a glass or two of your favourite drink as you watch the sun set over the vineyards beyond.
On your arrival, you will be invited to have an aperitif with the owners when you can discuss different places to visit and things to do. You will also receive a complimentary Welcome Pack in the gîte with a few basic food/cleaning essentials. If required, we are happy to also provide guests with specially selected food and drink starter packs (at additional cost) but these need to be ordered in advance.

We have been Francophiles ever since we started touring France over 20 years ago, during which time we have made frequent visits here, often in a classic car enjoying the quiet country roads at a more leisurely pace. As a result of this, we have also developed a great love of the country and many strong friendships across France.
After working hard for many years in England (Bill in construction and Letsie in the NHS), we finally decided to take the plunge and do what we had talked about doing for years. In 2010, we began our search for a special place- to start a new chapter in our lives so that we could follow a healthier and more harmonious lifestyle.
We look forward to welcoming you here soon.
Bill and Letsie
The Loire Valley is a very special area of France and one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, with a rich culture, famous for its enchanting châteaux, imposing river, great wildlife, and gastronomic food and wine. Our search for somewhere special repeatedly brought us back to this area and to this historic village in particular. After many months searching, we were eventually fortunate in finding our new home (Le Clos de la Rose), in the village of Le Puy Notre Dame, not far from Saumur. The climate is a relatively mild, temperate climate with no extremes in temperatures, usually with long warm summers, mellow autumns and shorter, milder winters.
We continue to appreciate the things that drew us to France originally: the food and wine, the countryside, the people and the climate.
Our gîtes are situated in the charming village of Le Puy Notre Dame, which is a wine-producing village near Saumur. It has ancient, narrow streets and a richness of history and outstanding architecture with beautiful mansions and imposing gateways dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries and a huge 12th century collegiate church.
We offer you respite from your busy lives in our comfortable, fully restored gîtes, with gardens overlooking vineyards as far as the eye can see. If you have any special requirements during your stay, we will do our best to meet them. We are happy to suggest interesting places to visit or exciting things to do; but if you prefer to be independent we respect your privacy.
We are enthusiastic about classic cars and warmly welcome other car enthusiasts.
A 25% (non-returnable) deposit is payable on booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to your arrival.
A security deposit of 150€ per gîte is payable against any damage/breakages and is normally refunded within 7-days of departure.
Generally, our gîtes are available for rent on a weekly basis, but they may be available for shorter mid-week and long weekend breaks in low season. If you would like to book a shorter stay break with us, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
The normal changeover day is Saturday and check in time is usually after 16h00 and check out time is 10h00. We may be able to offer more flexibility around the changeover day and/or check in and departure times for shorter stay breaks in low season.
Notes on prices:
Le Grenier which is a separate, spacious suite above La Maison d’Amis, may be available for accommodating larger parties and booked with either La Maison du Vigneron or La Maison d'Amis. Please contact us for availability/prices for Le Grenier.
Please also contact us to confirm prices for stays which are less than a week or special offers for stays of longer than two weeks.

The gite was equipped and decorated to a high standard, and the location was fantastic for exploring the Loire Valley, lots of chateaus and vineyards literally on the doorstep.
But that wasn't the best bit, Letsie and Bill made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. They greeted us with a chilled glass of local wine and even accompanied us to local vineyards to help with the translation. They helped with advice about local restaurants and shops etc when needed.
They were there when we needed them and discreet and out of the way when we just wanted to relax or sunbathe on the patio.
Behind the gates, we were in our own little haven, and it felt peaceful and tranquil the whole time we were there.
Le Puy Notre Dame is a lovely village with plenty of amenities (although some of the shops were shut when we were there in late august as is common in France). 2 restaurants which were both good, nice in different ways, but very easily walkable from the gite.
Would recommend this gite, and find it hard to say anything negative about it - it was a 5 to 6 hour drive from Calais, but we didn't mind that at all.
If you want something small, quiet and relaxing, you will be very happy here.
Arrived after a long journey on Saturday evening to be greeted by Bill with a very warm welcome and a glass of wine on the patio. The gite was lovely and had everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday. It is well located for visiting the local area, and the village itself is beautiful. Unfortunately we did not meet Letsie who was back in England packing up for their final move to France. Bill was a wonderful host and really put himself out by recommending places to visit and arranging wine tastings at some of the local vineyards (there are over 50 in the surrounding areas). The properties have been tastefully renovated, and are beautiful whilst retaining their original character. The enclosed courtyard is really pleasant and relaxing, just what the doctor ordered. Bill was working on the garden area at the rear of the property while we were there - can't wait to see the finished product!! Really enjoyed your company Bill. Looking forward to seeing you again and meeting Letsie. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
We had previously stayed as a party of 4 in the larger gite, this time there was just the two of us so we chose the smaller property What We really love about La Clos de la Rose is that you can really feel that Bill & Letsie love the place they have chosen to make their home.
The gite is very well equipped - fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, large shower, TV etc Lovely gardens which are a continuing work in progress and secure parking.
Bill and Letsie are a mine of information on the area and can offer suggestions for trips varying from 10 minutes to several hours away. Their love of classic cars is a real winner for us and we have booked our 3rd visit for July in the larger gite - we are introducing two new guests to this fabulous place.
We received a very warm friendly welcome and after being shown around our very clean and tidy traditional French Gite with all mod/cons.
We then sat outside on the patio in the shade for a welcoming drink and a chat about things to do and where to go in the area.
Bill and Letsie proved to be very helpful and friendly during our stay and organised outings for us Wine tasting,Aircraft museum etc.
We left as friends and will be back
