Farmhouse in Orgnac-sur-Vezere, Correze, Limousin, France - Situated In The Hamlet of Le Theillet With Sweeping Views Across The Oak Forests Of The Region

Les Granges is a traditional Limousin farmhouse in the hamlet of Theillet set in its own grounds of 25 acres. The farmhouse has sweeping southerly views over the oak forests of the region and enjoys sunshine from daybreak through to sunset. The house has a lovely charm and a natural spring feeds the large swimming pool. There are fruit orchards with plums, cherries, figs and apples plus walnut and chestnut trees and you are welcome to pick whatever is in season to eat during your stay. For relaxation, laze by the pool, explore the fields, fish in the lake stocked with carp, play table tennis or walk through the forest down to the Vezere river. Les Granges offers a peaceful rural idyll with big blue skies and amazing starry nights. If you're feeling active, some of the best cycling France has to offer is right on your doorstep. There is so much to do in Les Granges before you even begin to explore the region!

About the Owner

We bought Les Granges in 2012 and some small renovations turned it into a fantastic family holiday home. Whether it's just us (Madeleine, 13, Amelia 11, Florence, 4 and Alfred, 6 months), or with our parents or friends (we've accommodated 3 families happily), we always have a great time.

We bought the house for its wonderful views, lovely location and spacious accommodation.

Great family getaway from it all house .

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic location , overlooking the river valley .

Great for a couple of families , we had 4 adults and 7 young adults and did not feel crowded at all.

Comfortable farmhouse with lots of character.

The pool was a god send as the temperatures were in the high 30's , and lovely for sundowners / star gazing .

Never that far from activities , walking , canoeing , great for cycling , a nearby lake for swimming with a diving board !

Gorgeous house!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house, picturesque setting and amazing pool!! We went as a whole extended family of 8 adults & 5 kids ages 11-18. Beautiful bedrooms 3 separate seating areas inside incl kitchen with wonderful inglenook fireplace. Had amazing weather so bbq was handy. Lots of places to see and things to do, Wizztitti; a French 'go ape' is a definite for kids & adults alike. Ourador village is a moving place to visit, full of history & so moving. Also don't forget to visit the market in Objat itself, it's a must. Would definitely return.

Great place for family/group holiday

  • 5 of 5

This is a fabulous place if you're looking for the "get away from it all" category. The surrounding area is completely rural, surrounded by farms, orchards and forests. It's certainly NOT "touristy", indeed we don't think we saw any other obvious tourists the whole time we were in the area.

The farm house is spacious and charming in a rustic kind of way. It feels like a place that's lived in, rather than a "hotel", which is what we prefer. The bedrooms are good sized with plenty of storage to put things away so you don't feel like you're living out of a suitcase. The windows are shuttered which helps with keeping the rooms cool in the heat.

The traditional kitchen has a large dining table and there's also a table and chairs in the courtyard outside for a lazy french breakfast. The adjoining family room has three sofas and a TV, and there's WiFi.

The pool area is a highlight - with stunning views out over the valleys and down to the fishing lake. The pool is large and there's a well-shaded outdoor dining table and plenty of seating. So unsurprisingly a lot of time was spent lazing in the sun, having a swim, and taking in the views, or star-gazing at night. Note in respect to previous reviews - the pool area is now fenced around the perimeter (sympathetically so the view isn't spoiled), with gates from the courtyard and stairs, so it's much safer for children and we had no problem with our little ones running around.

It's a 5-10 minute walk down to the fishing lake with a reasonably steep decent. The lake is surrounded by woods and has some resident otters. Saw some big carp, so expect there would be good fishing if that's your thing.

In terms of things to do in the area, we didn't spend a lot of time out and about, but the local villages/towns are quaint and sleepy and there's a good sized supermarche for stocking up on essentials. There are no shops etc. within walking distance so having a car is essential.

Would certainly recommend taking a canoe trip down the river from Uzerche to Vigeois, which was amazing. Must be over 8yrs old. It takes 2~3 hours and there's a few bits of very easy white water and a fun chute. Totally peaceful with lots of wildlife - birds, otters etc.

All in all, was a great place to stay and if you want a "rural" type break, then would certainly recommend it. We'd definitely go back again.

Fantastic setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at Les Granges in late July 2013.

6 adults, 5 teenagers with plenty of space for us all.

The setting is idyllic and quiet and we had a very relaxing break.

The house is well equipped, the pool large and clean (but not for little ones) and the view from the downstairs loo is remarkable.

We would definitely go again

super house

  • 5 of 5

This is, in short, a wonderful house. It is well furnished, well equipped and very well suited to large groups (we were 10). The setting is idyllic and quiet. Don't expect large numbers of tourists or a tourist market in every village. This is a rural community going about its everyday business. Nearby Brive is a bustling town and many interesting places are within driving distance however a car is essential if you want to leave the swimming pool. The pool is large and the water crystal clear but beware of the drop into the garden if you have small children. We had a great time here and can thoroughly recommend this house. We would be glad to return.
