Spacious duplex apartment, 4 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, mountain views, in beautiful village, with ski lifts, ski-school, shops and restaurants close to Chatel

Les Sorbiers was built in 2007. It is in the village, beside the valley road from Abondance to Chatel and the Pas de Morgins. The apartment is peaceful, with a hillside meadow behind it and views of the mountains from its balconies. It is furnished in a modern way, with comfort, entertainment and practicality in mind. Part of the Portes du Soleil ski domain (650 kms of pistes), the village also offers all year relaxation in Chatel's wonderful indoor swimming complex and spa only a few minutes drive away. During the summer there is hiking, cycling, tennis, riding, white water rafting, and other amenities. A thermal health Spa in Val d’Illiez is open all year. Golf and sailing are available in nearby Evian.

About the Owner

We, Paul and Adrienne, first visited Chatel in summer 2006 with our two teenage sons who loved mountain-biking and identified it as having the best mountain-biking in Europe. We loved the valley and coupled with our own long-standing enthusiasm for skiing we decided to look for an apartment. Our sons are now adult but the apartment remains the centre of activity holidays for all of us, in summer and winter, and we are delighted to welcome to it visitors who share our love of the mountains.

Location

We were taken with the beauty of the location, and the superb skiing, hiking and mountain-biking facilities. We were enchanted with the traditional village atmosphere of La Chapelle d'Abondance, which offers many restaurants of high standard and ski shops and all essential shopping within the village. We like being five minutes drive from Chatel so that we can enjoy all the amenities of the town but think La Chapelle is more charming and picturesque, even though it has grown since we first came. It has its own ski lifts, one of which links with the Portes du Soleil domain and one of which is all its own. We appreciate the straightforward drive to Geneva airport, our closeness to the Swiss border, and having Lake Geneva only forty minutes away. There is a Swiss feel to the region.

Distance to Lake Geneva & Evian is 40 mins by car

Travel:

Nearest airport, well served by BA, Swiss and Easyjet, is Geneva which is 65 kms away. Good car hire and minibus transfer services are available and the drive is approx 1 hour and 45 mins.

Distances:

Morgins, in Switzerland, is about 10 kms. Evian and Thonon on Lake Geneva are 40mins drive and offer good sailing and swimming, and ferries which travel around the lake. There is also a casino in Evian plus excellent restaurants bars and shopping. Chamonix is 1.5 hours drive in summer.

Further Details:

La Chapelle D'Abondance is a wonderful alpine village specialising in Haute Savoie cuisine such as Cheese Fondue, tartiflette and other local dishes. It has good specialist sports and ski shops, and specialist food outlets such as a cheese producer, and small brewery in the Feu Rouge pub, plus a delicatessen. There is a convenience store on the edge of the village, and a well stocked hypermarket about five minutes' drive from the apartment. Once a week there is local food market in the church square. A doctor's surgery is within 100 yards of the apartment.

To secure a booking we ask for a 25% Deposit and the balance paid 6 weeks before the start of the holiday. A £250 security deposit is required which is repaid to you if no damage has been incurred to the apartment. Payment is required by BACS, details to be provided upon booking. Please note that animals are not allowed anywhere in the building and smoking is not permitted in the apartment.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is the typical changeover day, but other days may be possible on request . You can have access to the apartment from 3 pm (to be confirmed at the time of booking) and we request you leave the apartment by 10 am on the day of departure unless we agree alternative arrangements in advance.

From the Owner

The apartment is well located with the best bread in the locality sold at the delicatessen about 80 metres up the road. It is a similar distance from an excellent pizzeria with its own unique character, and easy walking distance to the village centre. The bus (free with ski pass) stops almost outside the apartment, and drops you at the Panthiaz ski lift within a few minutes, and in Chatel about 10 minutes after that.

  • Notes on accommodation: There is a good-sized heated entrance hall within the apartment with ample cupboard space for boots, jackets and coats. Skis are stored in the special, designated ski locker at the entrance to the apartment block. The locker room is heated. Outside: There is ample parking with easy access to the staircase entrance. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are available for a one-off fee of €130.00 regardless of number of guests. The property is cleaned every week, and a charge of €50.00 is added for this per week of rental. Other: Mezzanine entertainment area with sofa, scatter cushions, large-screen satellite TV, DVD player, and wi-fi.
