About the Owner

We are John and Sian Evans - Sian has worked in radio for years, part-time now, and John had a photographic studio, but now also works part-time in digital media.

Running the self-catering cottages, has been a great way to meet a wide range of people, and to share our good fortune in living in such a great place. And we love the variety of having lots of different jobs.

Owner's Response: I am disappointed that Mr & Mrs Hall chose to post their review again, without revisiting to see that we took on board their comments at the beginning of July, and bought new sofas and heater immediately, fenced in the garden, and repainted where necessary. We explained at the time that we had had longer term guests in back to back before their stay, and they arrived when we had been called away to a family event abroad, so had not been able to check on our usually impeccable cleaners. We had not stated anywhere that the garden was fenced, but have now done so. Subsequent guests have enjoyed their stay and were surprised at the Halls' comments.

Lovely cottage in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

Very pleasantly surprised to find a cosy, immaculate cottage having read a previous negative review. The setting is peaceful, we had mostly warm and sunny weather so were able to sit outside on our patio for drinks in the evening. Our granddaughter loved the morning walks from the cottage along the country lanes and there was space for her to stretch her legs in the garden at the back. A combination of country air and comfortable beds meant we all slept well. Sian and John are friendly, helpful hosts and accommodated our request for a five-day rather than a week's stay. We hope to return in the not too distant future.

Lovely, homely, cosy cottage in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

So glad we didn't let the previous negative review influence us. A very pleasant suprise to find such a cosy, comfy cottage with hospitable hosts and beautiful setting. The previous reviews negative comments were either unfounded or had been rectified. Well equipped, comfy cottage at a very reasonable price. I also found the owners very flexible and accommodating of our needs. Thankyou, will definetley stay again 😊

Seating (sofas) very uncomfortable, dirty, my wife has been unable to use them. Rusty heaters. Dirty fire not cleaned or emptied. Garden not fenced in, untidy, not dog friendly. Very old electric cooker

Owner's Response: Unfortunately and unusually, for family reasons we had to be away on changeover day, our cleaning service had done their best, but we had had long-term guests in up to the arrival date, so we had not given the cottage the final once-over, and the fire had not been laid. The furniture indeed needed renewing, and new sofas arrive tomorrow. The electric cooker is not old, but fierce cleaning has removed the writing! We will look to rectify this. We always explain that the gardens are not fenced in, and are part of larger paddocks for dogs and people to roam in. We are very sorry that these guests did not find the cottage up to standard.

From the Owner

We moved to the Vale of Glamorgan from Cardiff to bring up our three children in the country. We were really lucky to find our 15th century farmhouse, and have restored and renovated it over the years. We love the peace and the space we have here, waking up to birdsong, walking the dog over the fields and around the leafy lanes, yet we can drive to Cardiff in half an hour. The Heritage coast is only 3 miles away, and we enjoy walking local sections of the Wales Coastal Path. We bought the cottages in 2001, and renovated them then to 5 star standard. We've recently started changing our colour scheme in the latest round of painting - there is always something to do.

From the Owner

Staying in our cottages, we hope you will also enjoy the tranquility of the rural setting. Yet this is also a great base for exploring South Wales, historic Cowbridge and Llantwit Major, with their small shops, pubs and restaurants are only 3 miles away; Cardiff with its great sports venues and theatres is a half hour drive or a train-ride from Llantwit. Our visitors sometimes travel to the Gower and Swansea, the Brecon Beacons, and the South Wales Valleys, or just stay close to home and sit in the garden reading the paper and watching the birds. In the winter months, guests can stoke up the wood-burning stove and toast their toes, after a bracing walk, or a long pub lunch. We think the Vale is a great base for activities, but also a wonderful place to relax.
