We booked our holiday for our family very last minute, less than 24 hours before arriving and were very lucky to find this place. I’m sure after more people find this magical hideaway there will be limited last minute availability.
The owners Louisa and Frank gave us a very warm welcome and our two bed property had every convenience and comfort a family could hope for. It was a home away from home. We had a 1 yo with us and travel cots, high chairs, toys etc were all generously provided. They also know the area back to font so there are tips for new things to do every day.
The grounds of the house are beautiful and the pool is one of the top 5 relaxing spots I’ve found around Europe.
We went in mid October and the weather was still hitting 30.
There is plenty to explore in the surrounding area. The dramatic white sand dune beaches of Tarifa complete with kite surfing and roman ruins are some of the best I’ve been to.
This is a very personal experience and as close to feeling like you’re visiting your own holiday home.
Highly recommend and will be returning.
The location and accommodations are perfect !! The owners were so inviting and pleasant and our accommodations worked out perfectly. We had a lovely place to stay and relax. The view, the pool, the weather and the overall atmosphere was just what we needed. We were close to town to get groceries and close to everywhere we wanted to get to. We would consider this our home away from home and are excited to return in the future. We will definitely be sharing this place with our friends and family.
I hoped that this place would live up to the pictures on the website, which seemed very nice. In fact it exceeded every expectation; the accommodation was more spacious than it looked, the rooms large and airy, the kitchen extremely well equipped (and I do love to cook, so to find it had sharp cook's knives and a really decent stick blender were a welcome surprise!) and everything was comfortable, clean and in excellent order.
There is nothing "designer" or flashy about this place, but everything is simple, tasteful and entirely appropriate to the historic context of the building - a lovely old stable block with beautiful central courtyard. The floor tiles rustic terracotta, cotton rugs on the floor, simple country furniture. We loved sitting out on the covered terrace to have evening meals, the pretty (plumbago) hedge making our space private and sheltered, but still able to look across to the lovely old archway covered with beautiful climbing plants, one of which scented the air at night with a most exquisite perfume.
The pool area with its views of distant hills and countryside, and the little sunken terrace surrounded with lavender and herbs, were so peaceful and lovely. Most of the time, there was a cooling breeze, which made it very pleasant to sit in the shade of the two magnificent old cork oaks.
As for the hosts, Frank and Luisa, they were so welcoming and helpful, with many suggestions for things to do and places to go that you wouldn't find in any guide book, e.g. we had already decided to visit Ronda in our hired car, but Frank told us to drive instead, to the station at San Roque, about ten minutes away, where we easily parked for free, then take the train getting us to Ronda much quicker than the arduous road journey, brilliant!
There were lovely walks to do from the house, to the lake etc, with astonishing wild flowers and butterflies. We loved seeing the storks on top of all the telegraph poles.
The location is great, being within easy reach of Malaga, Ronda, Seville, Cadiz, Gibraltar etc. and many less well known local places being well worth a visit, such as Tarifa.
In short, if you want to have the most relaxing possible holiday, but with loads of lovely places to visit and to see a bit of the "real" Spain, you couldn't do much better than this place.
A lovely restful and peaceful location served by the very friendly and delightful owners. Sadly had to cut my holiday short due to ill health but a truly memorable location.
We loved our stay at the farm house! We have 3 boys all 5 yrs and younger and we found that this was the best place to stay for our family. The views from the farm house are amazing and it is conveniently located to many sites we wanted to visit! Luisa and Frank were amazing hosts with many suggestions of places to visit and see! We would definitely go back and recommend others to stay there!
Our family of four spent a wonderful and memorable week at Las Cuadras Farmhouse……. what a magical place for a family holiday. With two young active boys in tow, Monte de La Torre could not have been a more perfect place for our vacation. We absolutely loved our little cottage, not only was it comfortable with all the amenities we needed, but the property itself just oozed with charm, a pure rustic beauty that gave us a real provincial Spanish experience. The garden and pool were not only beautifully picturesque but it was also an ideal location for two young boys to run wild. Most days when we would venture out to soak up some Spanish culture all our kids wanted to do was “GO BACK TO THE FARM!!” The surrounding landscape & scenery was just breathtaking, the stunning lake on the property’s doorstep was a beautiful area for walks and we will never forget those stork’s nests.
Monte de la Torre’s location was also perfect for us, less than 15 mins from Tarifa and its beautiful beaches. We also loved our closest town (5mins) Los Barrios, a true Spanish town, not at all touristy and ideal for picking up all those essentials.
Luisa and Franc were the most wonderful hosts, they made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable. On the night we arrived, we were provided with a basket full of goodies which included fresh farm eggs, jamon and a great bottle of Spanish Rioja. They were also generous with their local knowledge giving us useful advice on things to do around the area.
This place is a true gem, a holiday that we will truly never forget…….we will be back!!!
