About the Owner
We are professional classical musicians who, having spent many happy times studying and then working in Aldeburgh and Snape, bought our home in Aldeburgh in 2007. We have spent many years travelling and staying in rented properties so we appreciate what people are looking for when they are renting.

Spacious 2 bed bungalow with lovely private gardens in a quiet residential area of town
Nice place to spend a week whether as a base for touring Suffolk, or simply enjoying the sun in the garden, or the beach - a 15 minute walk away (or 5 minutes to the end of Linden Road for the number 64 bus to the High Street if that suits you better). Set on a corner in spacious grounds the bungalow was well equipped and provided all we needed for our stay. The owner was very welcoming and ensured we had all we needed.
Excellent property - warm, comfortable, clean, plenty of space and ideally located for the Suffolk coast. It's very close to Aldeburgh - a charming town full of interesting shops, restaurants and where fresh seafood can be purchased from the many fisherman huts along the beach. We stayed for three nights , walked to Dunwich Heath along the beach and back through Minsmere Nature Reserve, visited Framlingham Castle and the Anglo Saxon burial site at nearby Sutton Hoo. There are many other places of interest and attractions in the area, but we didn't have time for more. Next visit!
A comfortable property
This was a lovely property in a quiet road. Very clean and comfortable. When we visited the owner was on hand to welcome us and answer any queries we had. Good location for visiting local attractions including Snape maltings, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Southwold etc
Spindlewood October 2015
Spindlewood is a comfortable, clean, well equipped, warm and spacious bungalow with comfortable beds also there is plenty of storage space. The bungalow’s comfortable setting gave us a place where we could relax and enjoy our holiday. Even when the weather wasn’t that kind it didn’t matter as the bungalow was a pleasant place to relax watching the rain.
Michael, the owner, welcomed us and showed us round explaining everything; he was only across the road if needed.
The bungalow is near to shops, the town centre and the sea. It is situated in a quiet spot of Aldeburgh, yet a mile down the road is the sea, High Street and shopping. There are many great areas and interesting places to visit in this part of Suffolk and great bird watching at Minsmere. There is lots to see and do.
We look forward to revisiting Spindlewood next year. Thank you Michael we really enjoyed our holiday in Suffolk.
Lovely spacious property in quiet spot
Nicely appointed house which had everything we needed for our short break in Suffolk. Situated in a quiet, leafy street a short walk from town centre. Plenty of lovely walks in the area. Do visit Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge. Take the organised tour - fascinating. Thank you Mike.
Spindlewood September 2015
The property is very spacious but:- the windows were very dirty, even taking into account the building work going on at either side, the cooking pans, crockery, cutlery and utensils all needed washing before we could use them, in fact some pans were so bad we just didn't use them. The shower tray was leaking causing the bathroom floor to be wet every time the shower was used, the rooms all had wooden/laminate flooring with rugs which had no grips on them and slipped very easily when walked on. Most of the wall sockets had trailing extension leads attached to them. The very large garden has been left to become overgrown and uninspiring, with an unsecured greenhouse ( not child friendly) . All the garden furniture was dirty and uninviting . The advertised WIFI is only available if you stand in a certain place and face the router which is across the road in the owners bungalow. On top of all this the property has a water softener that activated at 0440am and makes such a noise it disturbs anyone in the main bedroom and a boiler in the second bedroom that fires every hour through the night disturbing anyone in that bedroom.
We stay in holiday cottages 3 or 4 times a year and although this is not the worst we have come across, it is certainly nowhere near the best.
From the Owner
“In 2012 we were lucky enough to be able to purchase Spindlewood, a neighbouring property, which we let to holidaymakers and visiting musicians.”
Activity and Interests
A 15 minute walk will bring you to Aldeburgh's wonderful long beach.
Aldeburgh high street is full of excellent restaurants, independent shops, a cinema and art galleries - perfect for art lovers. Freshly caught fish is still sold from the fishermen’s huts along the beach.
Aldeburgh appeals to all age groups; there is a thriving sailing community, two local golf courses, tennis courts as well as the popular Aldeburgh Carnival held every year in August.
For many years Aldeburgh was the home of composer Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears and was the setting for many of Britten’s operas. In 1968 Britten converted Snape Maltings Concert Hall from a maltings, and it is now famous for the Aldeburgh Festival of Music and Arts, which is held annually in June. The Maltings complex is a pleasant place to browse around at any time of the year - there are various shops, a gallery and an antiques and collectors’ centre, as well as the Plough and Sail pub, where good country food is served. Boat trips can also be enjoyed to explore the upper reaches of the River Alde.
Venturing further afield the delights of the Heritage Coast are all within easy reach, most notably Southwold, home to the Adnams Brewery, working lighthouse, Art Deco pier and super sandy beaches, Woodbridge, a beautiful historic market town situated on the River Deben, Orford with its 12th-century castle and oystery, Thorpeness Mere with safe boating, Dunwich, Walberswick and the RSPB nature reserve at Minsmere.

From the Owner
“We love the position of Spindlewood. It is in a very quiet part of Aldeburgh, away from the crowds but near enough to be with them in a matter of minutes. Spindlewood is only a few minutes walk from the Aldeburgh 9 hole public golf course and 10 minutes drive to the 18 hole Thorpeness one. RSPB North Warren RSPB is very close and the town centre and the sea are under a mile away - with a supermarket and pub even nearer. Spindlewood is detached, so has no noise from neighbours, making it a truly relaxing place to stay.”
