Beautifully Converted Stone Barn at Cardeeth Surrounded by Fields and Woodland

Overview

Property

Updated: 26-Nov-2016
Stable Cottage, Cardeeth, Cresselly, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Idyllic location to relax & explore such a beautiful area. Walk to river, castle, mill pond & pub.

Romantic, cosy 'away from it all' down our farm lane. In a prime location, central to so many of South Pembrokeshire's hotspots, the golden sandy beaches and tourist attractions. Walk from the cottage down footpath across the fields or along lane to footbridge over the ford into Carew. Have a meal or a drink in Carew Inn. Look around the C11th Castle...entry is free if you arrive by bike, on foot or horseback. Young and old love to do the 'Mill mile' a loop around Castle, mill pond via the causeway, don't forget to stop at the tearooms in the summer, through the picnic site and back along the ancient Carew Bridge, back up to Stable Cottage on the farm at Cardeeth. Warm, comfortable and beautifully renovated with lots of wood, stone and all modern comforts. Families love the huge amount of space surrounding the cottage. Lots of animals to look at (dog, cats, chickens, horses, Welsh Black Cattle). Perfect for running / cycling training. Saundersfoot, Tenby, Pembroke, Narberth just 5 to 10 minute's drive away.

About the Owner

We live with our boys in the heart of rural South Pembrokeshire surrounded by fields and woodland on which we keep Welsh Black Cattle and other animals.

The feeling of space is great and have embraced the latest trend of triathlon so plenty of open water swimming, cycling and running on the golden beaches! Although have the chance of using a beautiful sailing boat this summer so maybe that'll have to change!

Our boys love their rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer amongst other things so well into the community spirit.

After all these activities we do enjoy eating out and also cooking at home.

Jim has renovated many beautiful properties, particularly stone ones starting up in his native Cumbria now down in Sally's part of the world. The holiday lets are all his creations

Great Cottage in a Lovely Setting!!

  • 5 of 5

A lovely stay in a beautiful cottage, located in a Farm setting with lovely old buildings. Lovely walks around the Mill Pond and Carew Castle close by. A great place to stay whilst exploring the nearby towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot, close to Pembroke Castle, which is a must see. Overall we had a fantastic time and Sally and Jim were really lovely. Thank you both, we will be back again!!!

Owner's Response: To the Thompson Family, Thank you for taking the time to put up a comment and for your very kind words, we loved having you as guests in the cottage. Archie is very well and keeps getting lots of attention from everyone.... he hasn't run off lately even though he's been out 'on his own' more than before so fingers crossed that he might have learnt(??) Really hope that you can come back another time. Very best wishes Sally (Jim, Tom Billy and Archie too)

Just Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Jim and Sally for a fabulous week. We were so relaxed from the moment we arrived and had to drag ourselves away at the end of the week! The cottage was beautiful, very warm, clean and cosy. Eddie's favourite things were the garden to play football and walking to Carew Castle; Jem's were the chickens and the cottage!

The weather was very 'Welsh' all week but it didn't matter a jot. So much to do, we have only just scratched the surface of places to visit. We are already planning when we can come back - the Blue Lagoon at sunrise is a definite for our next visit! We had BIG holiday blues when we came home. Thank you for the lovely eggs - a result of which is that we now have 3 chickens!! Look forward to seeing you again :-)

Great cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great week at Stable cottage, which is cosy, well equipped and in a great location to explore the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline. Highlights were Marloes Sands, a stroll through stunning Tenby and a slice of cake at the Quayside at Lawrenny. Sally & Jim were warm & friendly hosts and our 1year old enjoyed meeting Mollie, Magic and the chickens! We'll be back!

Relaxing Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a wonderful week at Jim and Sally's holiday cottage situated beside their farm. Looking out of the window in the morning and seeing the Welsh Black Cattle and Magic, the horse in the field started each day for us. The farm is well situated for touring all areas of South Wales and Carew Castle with the Tidal Mill is a must visit when the tide is coming in.

A wonderful farm to "chill out" on. Mollie the Jack Russell added to the attraction, visiting us whenever we came back.

Thanks Sally and Jim for a brilliant week and good luck Jim in The Ironman race.

Perfect cottage for family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at beautiful Stable Cottage which was relaxing, peaceful and cosy and are we already planning a return visit. It is really well placed for all the wonderful beaches and attractions all just a few minutes away.We recommend a short walk to the beautiful Carew Castle and Tidal Mill. We sat and watched the sunset whilst crabbing off the causeway at the Mill, a favourite with our children. We enjoyed a walk from Stackpole Quay to the fabulous Bosherston Lilly Ponds and the children enjoyed the surf at Freshwater West. Barafundle Beach is stunning too-pack a picnic and stay as long as you can. The seal safari around Caldey Island and mackerel fishing in Amroth Bay were fun.....there is so much to do here!

Importantly though are the incredibly welcoming and friendly owners Jim and Sally who made our stay especially enjoyable. Lovely people! We highly recommend a stay in Stable Cottage.

Location

From the Owner

Stable Cottage is on the farm at Cardeeth. We moved here in November 2001, after taking a 1yr sabbatical from Jim's native Cumbria to renovate 'Skrinkle Cottage' in Tenby the warm climate, golden beaches and laid back way of life was too tempting. The challenge of 'doing up' Cardeeth Farmhouse and crumbling stone barns suddenly became a reality and after big renovations in the house Stable Cottage blossomed in 2004. We are still enjoying living here in 2013 Down a lane, no neighbours but still able to walk / cycle into the village to Carew Inn, around the Millpond & beautiful Carew Castle Our boys cycle to the sports club, meet their pals to kick /throw a ball around. Take the horses across the fields out to 'The Big Wood' Very central to reach beaches, towns and attractions.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Central position to explore the beautiful beaches, coastline, waterways, ancient castles, historic towns and tourist attractions that the area has to offer.

Although cars are useful in a rural area it is possible to leave it behind and arrive by bus to Carew, link from the local bus service to the coastal shuttle buses (the nearest is the coastal cruiser). Taxi company 1/2 mile away. Hire a bike for the week or simply walk everywhere via lanes and footpaths.

Travel:

Cardiff approx an hour and a half away.

Severn Bridge via the M4 - 2hours

Car is very useful but not essential, a number of guests enjoy walking into Carew and catching the bus to link to coastal shuttle buses. More information available.

Bike riding is great, the route for Iron Man and other triathlons passes the end of our lane.

Kilgetty and Tenby train stations approx 6 miles. Taxi is advisable when you have luggage.

Distances:

Less than a mile to Carew Castle, Carew Inn & the French Mill.

2 miles to The Cresselly Arms at Cresswell Quay (well worth a visit)

6 miles by road to Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pembroke Dock & Pembroke

7 miles to Narberth (Quirky, independant shops & cafe culture along 1 main street)

All less 'as the crow flies' via footpaths and lanes.

Further Details:

Book a breakfast in he farmhouse for a special treat, can do either a full Pembrokeshire Cooked with locally sourced meat, our own eggs and fresh Welsh milk & butter or try our 'Ultra' an endurance style porridge / muesli, yogurt, dried fruit and nuts, honey, almond milk if preferred and fresh tea or coffee, ideal after a pre-breakfast cycle, run, walk, sea swim or all 4!

Approx 6 miles drive to either Pembroke Dock, Tenby or Narberth which have the usual high street banks, supermarkets, chemist etc. Within a couple of miles there are 4 lovely farm shops stocking veg, meat, dairy, baking etc from many farmers within sight of the cottage.

If your dates are not available please check out our other properties, all renovated by Thistle JK Ltd (Jim) in his wonderful style and all also chosen because of their own lovely, unique locations:

Facilities

From the Owner

We enjoy making use of the redundant buildings on the farm. There is much less land, so less animals to house than originally intendended so why not share the area that we love with others and make use of the beautifully made old stone barns... Look out for 'The Cresselly Brewing Company' sometime soon, Jim wants to make a microbrewery in one of the other ones!

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Stable Cottage is on the farm at Cardeeth, down a lane 1/2 mile from the main Carew - Cresselly road and also accessible from a back lane via Carew crossing a tidal ford (often quite deep, so not advisable to cross by car!) there is a very handy footbridge. This barn conversion is the only accommodation besides the farmhouse and feels very private being over 250m away from the back of Cardeeth. Outside: Gardens, woodland, field, farmyard. Private area rear of cottage, outside picnic table and other chairs. BBQ, in sheltered gravelled area. Flagged path. Raised decked area faces the daytime sun. Bench in front of the cottage to catch the amazing west wales sunsets, sit and enjoy a Cardeeth 'sundowner'. Utility Room: The utility is situated in a separate building to the rear of the cottage. It has a sink unit, washing machine, deep freeze. Inside parking for one car. Storage for bikes, kayaks, surf boards etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Friday weekly changeover also perfect location for a short break. Please enquire about 3 night stays. Beds made up. Bath, hand & tea towels (not beach towels). Superb farmhouse breakfast or breakfast hamper on request. Other: Coming soon in 2015 Scandinavian style wooden sauna of the rear garden area with outside cold water shower. Promotes a feeling of well-being (especially after going under a cold shower!)
