Beautiful cottage perfectly placed for a holiday. Walk to beach & village views of castle & countryside. National Park

Shute Cottage is a beautiful cottage located on the edge of Manorbier village centre which is four miles from Tenby. There is a 'Green Coast & Seaside Award' golden sandy beach which is popular with surfers as well as families, great for rock pooling when the tide is out this beach is also good for swimming, canoeing and angling it's dog friendly all year. To walk from the cottage to beach takes less than 2 minutes.

The famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 200m from the cottage. Walk east to Tenby past Lydstep, Beck's Bay and along to Tenby, Saundersfoot etc or west past Swanlake, Freshwater East, Stackpole Quay and Barafundle, there are many hidden coves to discover on the way. The scenery is stunning in winter and summer.

Look across form the kitchen to the medieval Manorbier Castle and the 12th century Church of St James.

The original dwelling probably dates back to Norman times with a rare stone vaulted ceiling and later addition of a round Flemish chimney.

Shute Cottage was shortlisted for a National Award in Design and Architecture for renovation and expansion work within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The link and addition to the original cottage has made it light and spacious.

It has a modern interior with fully fitted kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, freeview tv, dvd, digital radio, WIFI.

Manorbier has Beach Break, a lovely tea rooms just up the hill into the village. The lovely village shop, open from early until late is 1/4 mile. The Castle Pub and Castlemead restaurant both serve food and are highly recommended. The castle itself has a coffee shop and pretty garden, well worth a visit.

There are 3 bedrooms, a double with king size bed. A twin downstairs from there a flight of stairs to an upstairs twin both in the original side of the house. The utility room, shower and loo are downstairs. There is a bath and loo next to double room upstairs. The kitchen is a large, open plan area with dining table, sofa and wooden floors.

Outside the private garden is surrounded by fields on 2 sides, a leet runs through and a bank to rear goes into woods and shrubs. The narrow road to church passes the front gates. There are 6 acres of land running up the valley behind the cottage, Welsh Black Cattle and sheep are in there at various times of the year all, also a lake which has a variety of birds to spot.

Shute Cottage is in the most superb position and came up for sale when the timing was right. After many discussions with the National Park Jim set to work and added a light, spacious kitchen / dining area and big bedroom (with bathroom) and renovating the old part so that it would be warm, dry and very comfortable. The original dwelling probably dates back to C11th with a stone vaulted ceiling and a later addition of a round Flemish chimney. An engineered stone stream now drains the area beautifully and keeps Shute's water shute flowing.

What makes this house unique

So convenient to get everywhere but also a feeling of space. The gravelled drive at the front holds loads of cars; banks, willow trees & garden all around lets children (& grown ups) play or simply move the garden furniture to sun or shade, cool breeze or shelter. Carry picnics, surf boards, kayaks, push sailing boats, down to the beach. Set a challenge of land v water..first to get to Stackpole Quay via the coast path or water gets an icecream!! Adrenaline junkies; don't forget to jump in afterwards (if the tide is in). Fresh strawberries and asparagus are a must from Springfields, artisan bread from Lamphey bakery (shuts at 1pm) is amazing and the new Nash Farm shop is delicious. Come back for a hot bath or shower, light a fire or bbq and chat through the day's highlights

Notes on accommodation: The cottage is yours to use for your holiday, there is no cleaning service whilst you are there but could recommend one if you request. There is cleaning equipment, a vacuum cleaner, mop & bucket, washing machine, dishwasher etc for your own use. Outside: Gravel drive off quiet lane, end of beach car park; secure gates. Beautiful stone lined stream, great to splash and cool off hot feet in the summer or muddy welly wash in winter. Willow trees....see how fast you can climb around without putting feet to the floor. Sheltered lawn areas, grassy bank. Kitchen has a second 'stable' style door with walled, enclosed area off back, great for dogs or little ones. Clothes line. Garden furniture - tables and chairs. Paddocks to rear have wooden fencing. Beach and coast path are just out of the drive. Walk 1/4 mile into village: shop/post office/off licence/dvd hire etc etc; The Castle pub, lovely beer garden; The Castlemead restaurant (shouting distance across the paddock) great home cooked food; Beach Break tea rooms, wonderful food & gift shop, Manorbier Castle has a coffee shop and beautifully kept gardens. The beach and coast path endless opportunities for fun & general well being. Utility Room: Washing machine and large sink. Heating and hot water controls. Broom cupboard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Weekly changeover usually Friday (short breaks may vary) between 10am & 3pm. Beds are made up, bath, hand, tea towels, oven gloves (not beach towels) provided. Tea, coffee, milk & welsh cakes to help you unwind on arrival. Other: Free wifi. Outside tap, perfect to wash off wetsuits and surfboards.

Location

Coast/Beach:

Walk slowly to the beach in 2 minutes or march out the flat, easy walk in less than 1 minute. Carrying surf boards, boogie boards, Thermos flasks, picnics, buckets for the rock pools and plenty of sun cream is usually easier if you have a beach kayak to use as a 'pack horse' with 2 helpers at either end!

Besides Manorbier beach which is popular with both surfers and families there are a few other 'secret' beaches along the coast path just waiting to be discovered.

Travel:

Shute Cottage by car is around 1hr 45mins from Severn Bridge via M4.

Manorbier railway station is serviced from Carmarthen & Swansea main lines, 3 miles west from Tenby. 5 miles further west - Pembroke Dock directly links to the Irish ferry (44 miles to Ireland, day trips possible).

Cars are useful in this rural area however the local buses from village links to Pembrokeshire Coastal buses, specifically the Coastal Cruiser.

Amazing walking and great cycling. Weekly bike hire available.

Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement with the owner, £30.

House rules: Dogs must not be left unattended in cottage and stay downstairs (there is a stair gate) in either the kitchen area or utility room. Please not in the living room.

They need their own bedding and a throw for the sofa in the kitchen area.

It is fantastic walking onto the beach and the coast path. An outside tap or in the fresh stream washes off the sand and mud brilliantly.

A safe enclosed outside area behind the cottage off the kitchen door.

Changeover Day:
Friday during all school holidays. Short breaks usually from Friday to Monday / Monday to Friday These can be more flexible so please ask and we will try to help.

Up to 2 dogs are very welcome by prior arrangement, there are some house rules. An extra charge of £30 per stay.
