Shute Cottage, Manorbier, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Perfectly Placed For A Holiday, Walk To Village And Beach In One Minute

Gorgeous family holiday home or a romantic, boutique retreat. Shute Cottage was shortlisted for a National Award in Design and Architecture for the renovation and expansion work within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Lovely Manorbier beach, a golden sandy cove with great rock pools, popular with both families and surfers, 2 minutes or less on foot. Look out of the kitchen or bedrooms onto the majestic C11th Norman Castle. The original dwelling probably dates back to Norman times with a rare stone vaulted ceiling and later addition of a round Flemish chimney. The link from the cottage to the light and spacious extension was built in 2003 to create the most stunning base in the most idyllic location. Very well appointed, dishwasher, washing machine, flat screen tv,dvd, stereo, ipod dock, telephone Free WIFI is now available. Beach Break tea rooms just up the hill. Village shop, open 'all hours' 1/4 mile. Tenby 4 miles by road or 5 miles by coast path; similar by boat.

About the Owner

We live with our boys in the heart of rural South Pembrokeshire surrounded by fields and woodland on which we keep Welsh Black Cattle and other animals.

The feeling of space is great and have embraced the latest trend of triathlon so plenty of open water swimming, cycling and running on the golden beaches! Although have the chance of using a beautiful sailing boat this summer so maybe that'll have to change!

Our boys love their rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer amongst other things so well into the community spirit.

After all these activities we do enjoy eating out and also cooking at home.

Jim has renovated many beautiful properties, particularly stone ones starting up in his native Cumbria now down in Sally's part of the world. The holiday lets are all his creations

Guestbook comments from the owner

*Fabulous New Year's week! Romantic setting, Shute Cottage is well equipped and beautifully decorated. If you do trip out try The Plantagenet House in Tenby - one of the best meals ever. Thanks again, we'll be coming back soon. Liz and Simon, Dan and Rachel.

*Another lovely week in Shute, thanks for the milk, flowers and welsh cakes. Sorry to leave, especially 'Buster' he's worn out, he loves the beach. We'll be back" Thanks again, The Smith Family

*I love Shute Cottage so much. I'm so sad to leave. Found loads of starfish on the beach and released them. love from Enka, 7 years old xx

Location

From the Owner

Shute Cottage is in the most superb position and came up for sale when the timing was right... After many discussions with the National Park Jim set to work and added a light, spacious kitchen / dining area and big bedroom (with bathroom) and renovating the old part so that it would be warm, dry and very comfortable. The original dwelling probably dates back to C11th with a stone vaulted ceiling and a later addition of a round Flemish chimney. An engineered stone stream now drains the area beautifully and keeps Shute's water shute flowing.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Walk slowly to the beach in 2 minutes or march out the flat, easy walk in less than 1 minute. Carrying surf boards, boogie boards, Thermos flasks, picnics, buckets for the rock pools and plenty of sun cream is usually easier if you have a beach kayak to use as a 'pack horse' with 2 helpers at either end!

Besides Manorbier beach which is popular with both surfers and families there are a few other 'secret' beaches along the coast path just waiting to be discovered.

Travel:

Shute Cottage by car is around 1hr 45mins from Severn Bridge via M4.

Manorbier railway station is serviced from Carmarthen & Swansea main lines, 3 miles west from Tenby. 5 miles further west - Pembroke Dock directly links to the Irish ferry (44 miles to Ireland, day trips possible).

Cars are useful in this rural area however the local buses from village links to Pembrokeshire Coastal buses, specifically the Coastal Cruiser.

Amazing walking and great cycling. Weekly bike hire available.

Distances:

Tenby centre 4 miles

Pembroke 5 miles

Pembroke Dock 6 miles

Castle hopping from Manorbier to Carew via Pembroke, distance can vary depending on which 'back route' you take

Narberth 10 miles (quality, quirky independent shopping and cafe culture along 1 main street)

Further Details:

Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement with the owner, £30.

House rules: Dogs must not be left unattended in cottage and stay downstairs (there is a stair gate) in either the kitchen area or utility room. Please not in the living room.

They need their own bedding and a throw for the sofa in the kitchen area.

It is fantastic walking onto the beach and the coast path. An outside tap or in the fresh stream washes off the sand and mud brilliantly.

A safe enclosed outside area behind the cottage off the kitchen door.

Facilities

From the Owner

So convenient to get everywhere but also a feeling of space. The gravelled drive at the front holds loads of cars; banks, willow trees & garden all around lets children (& grown ups) play or simply move the garden furniture to sun or shade, cool breeze or shelter - blissfull. Carry picnics, surf boards, kayaks, push sailing boats, down to the beach. Set a challenge of land v water..first to get to Stackpole Quay via the coast path or water gets an icecream!! Adrenaline junkies; don't forget to jump in afterwards (if the tide is in). Fresh strawberries and asparagus are a must from Springfields, artisan bread from Lamphey bakery (shuts at 1pm) is amazing and the new Nash Farm shop is delicious. Come back for a hot bath or shower, light a fire or bbq and chat through the day's highlights
