About this property

Cottage with breathtaking views of the river valley in the Natural Park

The cottage sleeps 4 in this magical setting with exclusive use of the pool area. .

The grounds are set in 8 hectares in the highly protected Natural Park giving privacy and peace. There are outstanding unspoilt views of the sierras and river valley which is Andalucia's only remaining virgin river.

The cottage is open plan with high vaulted ceilings and is modern and light. There are 2 terraces, one of which is covered with comfortable seating and a dining area. There is a master bedroom with a seperate bathroom. The living area is open plan that has a mezzanine bedroom that is again open plan. The open plan living area has a fully fitted kitchen and dining area as well as a comfortable seating area and with a high ceiling gives a wonderful sense of space. There is WiFi throughout the cottage as well as SKy TV, DVD and a sound system

The swimming pool and tennis court area is an ideal place to relax on the sun loungers or hammocks or play badminton or table tennis. There is seating for 12 for dining and a BBQ. Fridges are on hand for drinks as well as a small kitchen for the BBQ. There is WiFi at the pool as well. At night the pool can can be lit up as well as the romantic fairy lights in the trees that surround the area. The pool is situated 100 metres from the cottage.
All sports equipment is provided as well as beach towells. The pool is 11 x 6 metres and the tennis court is grass with a few unpredictable bounces!!

Around the Finca there are amazing views of the Sierras and the breathtaking sunsets that sillouette the olive trees perched high up on the sierras. At night it is a stargazers paradise and with little light pollution the milky way lights the sky. The Finca is set in the Natural Park of Los Alcornocales (The Cork Forest) and has areas of woodland with wild olives and towering cork trees that are from the oak tree family. There is a gate that leads to the river where there are walks from gentle strolls to exploring the breathtaking scenery. 100 metres from the house are great bathing areas in the river pools with views of Jimena's Moorish Caslte. In May and June the river is a garden of Pink Oleanda and these months have fantastic wild flowers that spring up.
You are unlikely not to see the eagles and many different birds that frequent the Natural Park as well as the many different animals that live along side us in this protected habitat.

The finca is very private but only a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk to Jimena that has many restaurants and bars where you can sample the local cuisine of Iberico ham to the fruits of seafood from the Med. There are supermarkets and Banks as well as a medical centre just in case but many of the little shops sell the fruit and vegetables cultivated by the locals in their vegetable gardens. The Andalucian people are incredibly helpful and friendly. There is a festival in May marking the Andalucian history with horses. In July their is a music festival with Flamenco and world music and In Mid August is the main Summer Feria that goes on for 3 days

During your stay there is a member of staff, Jose Luis, that will ensure that the pool and gardens are maintained as well as cleaning the terraces.
Naturally he will be discrete and fit in with your wishes.

A blissful, comfortable retreat; perfect pool
A perfectly appointed, charming, peaceful, well equipped little cottage (it’s quite cosy for a growing family – you’d better all get on!) with fabulous amenities — even a sharp kitchen knife and a blender — and a kind, respectful and responsive host. The location is good for those wishing to be close to a village yet rural. The village itself makes for a delightful, if hilly!, paseo of an evening through pretty, winding streets and has a few lovely restaurants, but is not very lively in late August and you need to be there after 7-8pm to really get a sense of local life. There are two decent supermarkets but for a big hypermarket you’ll have to travel 45mins+. The castle at the top is the only real landmark there and provides a great view of the landscape. You can’t quite see Africa, but the coastal wind farms are visible. We took a couple of day trips: to Ronda (5*, highly recommended), 1.5hrs away, and to Tarifa (worth it), 1hr 10 mins away. Both made for very pleasant diversions. The pool and tennis court area is not right next the the house but a steep climb up the hill (approx 60m away) which put me off at first but in the end did not matter. If you have small children it may be tricky having to clamber between house and pool for trips to the loo and forgotten sunglasses etc, but with older kids (aged 9-13) whom it was safe to leave in the pool alone, it did not bother us. Also, there is a fridge and a rudimentary kitchen unit up by the pool so we were able to store drinks and snacks up there which significantly reduced the number of trips needed to the house. Top features in my view: * the aircon in bedrooms * the large and perfect-temperature pool * the pool-side fridge * pool-side basic kitchen set up (cupboard with utensils, sink, bin and cups) * BEAUTIFUL handmade poolside dining table * fantastic, handbuilt barbecue * charmingly wonky tennis court and tennis equipment * vastly superior pillows and comfy sofas * excellent WiFi * vultures n eagles soaring overhead * ping pong table * and especially the generous household supplies — plentiful soft towels, loo paper, and even emergency sun cream — including a lovely welcome pack of food and beer left by the host! * Special mention for the nearby river @5mins’ walk, a haven for tiny frogs and kids who like to catch them. ‘Going frogging’ became our go-to afternoon diversion. We were genuinely sorry to leave. Absolutely worth every star!

Wonderful stya
We loved our time in the cottage. Duncan was a superb host and looked after us so well. The welcome hamper was much appreciated as we arrived late. It was everything it said on the website. Walks were beautiful along the river. Steep hill to get to the pool area though!

Breathtaking escape and haven!!!
This was a truly fabulous break away from it all. The facilites, especially the pool and tennis court were brilliant. The river walks on our doorstep were wonderful. We felt perfectly cocooned away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Duncan was a kind and affable host, who made us all feel extremely welcome. A very highly recommended rural retreat for those wishing to escape the stresses of the modern world.

A lovely escape
A great cottage set in beautiful surrounds. Rustic in feel and no AC, but very comfortable and with everything we needed (pool, tennis, walks, wifi, tv, baby cot etc). We had a great stay and Duncan was really helpful throughout.

Hi, We’re Duncan and Jasmin and we fell in love with Spain and this wonderful property 16 years ago which we lovingly restored over the years and is our principal home. It has all comforts to make your stay really memorable. You will enjoy the privacy and enchanting views and of course the wonderful climate, food and the charismatic people that Spain offers.

Why they chose this property

This was the first and only property that we viewed. From the second we drove through the gate we had found our paradise. There were goats in the ruined Farmhouse and the cottage only had stones where the walls once were.
Daunting though it was we restored the property over 5 years keeping the Andalucian features but modernising the living space for our needs. So why this property for your holiday? You will be enchanted as we still are
