Town House in Keswick, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Central Location 10 Second From High Street Quiet Location Easy Reach Of Walks And Bars

A spacious town house siutuated in a perfect location in the middle of Keswick in a quiet road which leads to Lower Fitz Park with its great outdoor space which includes a new playground with zip lines etc for the children to enjoy. The house was refurbished in summer 2013 and furnished and equipped to a high standard. All bedrooms are good size upper bedrooms lovely views of hills around Keswick. ETB Certificated. Large TV freeview. Wireless internet available as well as DVDs, games and books. 2 receptions rooms 1 with large dining table. Rear parking space available for small to medium car. Unrestricted parking is available on the road outside. There is a front patio area with table and chairs( barbecue available). The beautiful Lake Derwentwater is a 5-10 minute stroll from the house and is a flat easy walk. There are a range of lovely flat walks around the lake or you can catch a steamer and explore the scenic villages surrounding the Lake.

About Jill

We love the Lake District and Keswick in particular. The stunning beauty of the area is very very special. We have visited many places in the world but the Lake District is somewhere we have wanted to return to time and time again. The scenery is stunning, we have enjoyed exploring various walks and have progressed in difficulty in our walks starting with Latrigg, then Walla Crag and then last weekend we walked up Catbells. The views were breathtaking and we had a fantastic day despite falling in a puddle on the way down! We bought this house in December 2013 and spent the next 3 months refurbishing it. We are really pleased with the result and so are the guests who have visited the house to date. We hope that you will visit and enjoy both the house and the area as much as we do.

“Place was clean, warm and homely. Nice open fire in the living room. Big dining room and well stocked kitchen. The place was an IDEAL location. Liked the bathroom set up with the separate toilet and shower area as well as the big main bathroom. Owner was easy to contact and gave a quick response with any queries we had which was super good. I would 100% recommend this place again and stay here again for sure.”

Notes on accommodation: The two larger bedroom have seating available. One has two easy chairs and coffee tablewith lovely views of the surrounding hills the other has rocking chair with coffee table. This enables people in large groups to enjoy some personal space and quiet time away. Outside: There are two outside spaces. One at the front and the other at the rear. The front is a patio area with flower pots, hanging basketsetc. 2 benches and a table and chairs are available together with a barbecue for al fresco dining. The area at the rear offers a parking space for a small to medium car. It has access from the kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are included as is preparation of the house for your arrival and cleaning of the house when you leave. Bedding for the two additional beds is not provided. Cleaning and change of linen is available on request a charge applies. Other: Lovely entrance hall with original Victorian tiled floor throughout ideal for coming back in walking boots after a great day out on the hills.

Brilliant base in the Lakes

The property stands in the centre of Keswick .Just park up the car for the weekend and set off on a variety of walks to suit all abilities. One of my favourites is to walk around Derwentwater a 12 mile stroll with the opportunity to catch the ferry back should the weather change. Myself and 3 pals enjoyed the comfort of the cottage and the amenities on the door step.Look forward to staying again.

A large, yet cosy house - close to the centre of the gently bustling town of Keswick.

We parked on the road - which was easier than navigating the tight space round the back with our new car. The house had a homely feel - very welcoming and lived-in; it's decour in keeping with the historic town. A great place for a large group to spend time chatting around the dining room table after vigorous hill walks and relaxing lake cruises. Thoughtfully - an additional shower and toilet added - to avoid queues. The only minor issues were with the cleanliness - perhaps a more keen eye would have noticed the cobwebs and the dishwasher failure. Also - the departure time could have been clearer and more prominent on the many notes around the building. The arrival of the cleaners at 9:50 in a Sunday morning when we were expecting to leave at 11am was a little bit of a shock.

Owner's Response: Very pleased that these guests enjoyed their stay. The cleaner is excellent but even the best of us can miss the odd cobweb!!! This is the first I have heard about any problem with the dishwasher!! The guests before and after never had any problems. It is really appreciated if guests do have any problems that they let me know straightaway Often it can be a minor problem about function and can be sorted by a quick chat or message! Many of our guests return year after year and we look forward to welcoming these guests back in the future.

What a shame

This house is in a fantastic location, literally at the bottom of the road is the town centre. However other than that it is a tired and unclean property. The owner did carry out some maintenance while we were there and some general cleaning but this did not even scratch the surface. The property needs a good clean and further maintenance carried out. It's such a shame because it could be a lovely house in a wonderful location. The room sizes are all good with reasonable furniture, the beds are extremely uncomfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped, but just unclean. A great shame as we were looking forward to staying in Keswick for the first time.

Owner's Response: I am very disappointed that this guest was dissatisfied with my house. She contacted me on the third day after her arrival and told me that she was dissatisfied with several things about the house, some examples included the kitchen cupboards which had some grease on them, some weeds in the paving at the front of the house and a very small amount of grout missing from one part of a tile in the kitchen. When asked why she had not contacted me on arrival so that I could ask the cleaner to go back. She replied that she had only noticed the issues after having time to have a really good look. I tried to respond to these issues but sadly nothing I did was good enough. Every year we undertake a programme of updating and this year will be refurbishing the lounge, but this did not make it on to the 'list'! Uncomfortable beds were never mentioned! The beds in three bedrooms were renewed in May 16 and many guests remark on their comfort. I sent this guest a goodwill gesture after she left which was accepted and never acknowledged. This is a very popular house and many guests comment on how 'spotlessly clean' it is! The guest before this guest rated the house very highly and their review is included on this page. The house is cleaned and then the standard of cleaning is checked by a supervisor before guests arrive. The house is a three star, lovely house that is very reasonably priced and in August the cost for a week is only slightly more than camping for a group of eight! There are houses of a similar size to this house on this site, a four star house which is nearly double the price in August and a five star house which is almost three times the cost. I feel that this guest would have been been well advised to have booked one of these houses and perhaps these houses may have been more in line with her expectations!! We are very pleased that most guests give very positive feedback and come back to this house year after year!

Spacious house well stocked for all necessities ideal for all the family

Had a really good holiday with all our family. Grandson and partner on holiday from New Zealand grandson and wife and two great grandchildren from Leeds.daughter and son in law and self and husband this property catered for all our needs.no one wanted to go home.would thoroughly recommend this property.

Reasonable house with a great location

Good points:

Big house with lots of space, great dining table for family gatherings, has wifi, comfy beds (if rather small), two tvs if you need them and a reasonably equipped kitchen.

Location is great - next to the high street and still quiet.

Not so good points:

parking is non-existent (and no, the house does NOT have parking in the rear yard, unless your family arrives on one motorbike). Seems clean so long as you don't look too hard (cobwebs on ceilings and don't put your hand down the side of the sofa...oh, and stale milk in bottom of the fridge - talking of fridges, there are two, but one has no shelves to speak of) - and very steep stairs, especially to the top floor.

If you can get past the not so good bits, it is a great place to be.

Owner's Response: I was pleased that this guest liked my house enough to give it 4/5. I stayed in the house immediately following this guest's stay and could see no issues with cobwebs or dust down the side of the settee! The guest is able to contact me or the office if there is any problem. The cleaner takes great pride in her work and receives many compliments re the standard of cleaning in this property. The guests made no contact with me either during or after their stay. If the guests had told me about the cobwebs that were spotted I would have dealt with it immediately. Unfortunately I was contacted by the cleaner when these guests left, the first time ever in five years, to say what a dirty condition they had left the house in. It is very disappointing when guests clearly do not follow the guidelines set for use of the property. The parking space is small but definitely fits a car... we have a Vauxhall Astra and park there all the time. Some clever person even got a Land Rover defender in the space! There is also unrestricted car parking space in the road outside. Recently a group who brought three cars commented that they were concerned about parking before they arrived but had absolutely no problem parking in the road during their stay. All beds are full size beds for eight people. The two temporary single beds which are used when 10 people are in the house are slightly smaller than a full size single but no one has ever had a problem before! This is indeed a lovely big house in a perfect location which is recognised by guests who return year after year.

Keswick has something to offer everyone from walkers / climbers to artists, sports enthusiasts and jazz lovers. It has a range of special events throughout the year for example , mountain, jazz, beer, rugby, triathalon,christian conferences/festivals. Look tourist information for more details.

There are also a wide range of restaurants and cafes for all tastes and budget just a minute from the house. There is also a good choice of independent pubs with amazing local beers available.

Coast/Beach:

The Cumbrian coast is a 30 minute drive from the house. This is a perfect loation to use as a base to explore the Lakes and places like Ambleside and Windermere or visit Wordswroths Dove Cottage and Grasmere or buttermere and the Eden Valley.

Travel:

As this property is centrally located if guests which to stay in and around Keswick a car is not required as everything is within an easy walk. However although there are regular bus services to Ambleside Windermere etc a car is advised to reach the less popular parts of the National Park.

Distances:

Keswick Centre less than 1 minute walk

Grasmere 20 minute car

Ambleside 25 minute car

Windermere 35 minute car.

Scottsih border area 40 minutes car.

Further Details:

There are a range of shops within a 5 minute walk from the house including Booths supermarket. There are banks etc within a three minute walk from the house and the choive of coffee shops, restaurants pubs and restaurants is excellent.
