Excellent,if you want to get back to nature

  • 5 of 5

From the precise directions to find the log cabin ,through the whole of our visit we were very pleased .

The cabin was warm and very clean on arrival .It was extremely well equipped with everything required to make our stay relaxed and enjoyable. The setting was idyllic with the opportunity to walk and enjoy the wild life .It was an ideal base for exploring Dartmoor .

Our booking covered ages from 3 generations ,the overall opinion shared by us all is we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again .The addition of WiFi was a major plus with the younger of the group

Relaxing Break

  • 5 of 5

We (family of 5 - kids 11 and 13 + a cockerpoo) have just returned from a weeks break at Trout River Lodge. I must say that we had a fantastic relaxing break. The Lodge is very clean and has all the creature comforts needed for your holiday. The scenery is outstanding and you really feel that you are in the heart of the Dartmoor wilderness. Fantastic walks on your doorstep, we did the Fingle Bridge walk (1 hour each way) with a 2 hour stop at the pub (which has great food and is picture card perfect) a number of times. The kids were gutted at first that there was no mobile or Internet but had completely forgoten at the end of the week after embracing the nature and wildlife. Wife and myself commented on how it gave us memories of how holidays were when we were kids.

South Devon coast
Car: necessary

The South Devon coast is approx. one hour's drive away. Here you can find

estuaries such as Salcombe, Dartmouth, Teignmouth - ideal for boat trips, sandy beaches like Blackpool Sands with its superb cafe, Bantham - a surfing paradise and Bigbury where you can walk across the sands to Burgh Island. There are also quiet coves and rock pools and for walkers there is the endless coastal path with glorious views of the sea at every step.

Although hidden in this quiet corner of Dartmoor access is very easy. Follow the M5 and then A30 which has a junction at Cheriton Bishop only 10 minutes from the lodges. The port of Plymouth is approximately an hour away and Exeter airport approximately half an hour away by car.

The lodges are located in the Dartmoor National Park. Moretonhampstead with numerous shops, banks, etc. is 10 minutes drive away. Dunsford and Fingle Bridge, both with excellent pubs, are either 10 minutes by car or about one hour by foot along the river. There is a good village shop in Cheriton Bishop 10 minutes by car. Castle Drogo, a National Trust property, is 15 minutes by car or 1.5 hours on foot from the lodges. Chagford and Bovey Tracey are 20 minutes by car.
