We purchased the property in a run down condition in 2007 and over the next 12 months restored it to its current condition. We have many groups returning year on year, some now for their 8th visit! Being next to the sound of Mull the panoramic views are breath taking. The list of wildlife seen from the house includes otters, seal, whales, sea eagles, sea hare, heron etc. The house has proved very popular for family gatherings, diving groups, walking groups, geologists, photographers. Our 4 bed Lodge is next door, plus 2 person apartment and a unique 4 person Lodge on the Pier!
For the exclusive use of the House guests a 6 person Hot Tub was installed in 2017.
We purchased the property and pier in 2007 which was in need of full restoration. Within the 1st year we completely refurbished, re roofed, fitted oak staircase and finished all areas of the property to a high standard.
The restoration of the pier then followed, with 50+ tons of wood being installed, one of the waiting rooms rebuilt and the pier available for guests.
Peter Stanhope purchased this house in 2007
On the side of the Sound of Mull the panoramic views are stunning. Close to the waters edge making it ideal for divers, water sports, bird watchers etc
Whilst the location is very quiet it is only 10 minutes walk into the village, where all the local services are available.
Guests have access to the pier and slipway, at their risk. This is ideal for fishing, diving and boat access.
There is plenty of parking on hard standing.
Please check our website for the many testimonials we have had.
For group bookings, ie divers, walkers, photographers etc we are happy for you to make contact with previous guests.
Staying at Salen Pier Lodge is a pleasure any time of year but we love it in the winter. This is the third year running we have visited in January and there's nothing nicer than 'cosying up' in front of the log burner watching the weather do its worst outside. The otter doesn't seem to mind if it's raining, hailing or snowing so we always have our binoculars in one hand and a mug of tea in the other! The lodge itself is well equipped with everything you could possibly need, summer or winter. I have to mention the beds too which are amazingly comfortable and I defy anyone not to get a good nights sleep in them!
See you next January?!"
We are a large group of 10 adults who island hop each summer, with an increasing number of small people to include too.
Salen Pier House was perfect for us. Bedrooms good sizes to fit travel cots/blow up mattresses for toddlers without feeling cramped, and plenty of living space to allow us all to sit down comfortably for meals together - and space for "adults" and "kids" so those with no children didn't feel too overrun!!
The location, right on the shore by the pier is beautiful, and being halfway between the ferry and Tobermoray is ideal for exploring the rest of the island.
Even in September we had AMAZING weather - we were fishing and swimming off the pier, out exploring every day, and picking brambles in the evenings.
The house is incredibly comfortable, and an excellent size for a larger group. We always struggle to find accommodation to fit us all, and with ever increasing numbers this is only getting harder. I can see us returning to Mull and Salen Pier House again, as it really is perfect - good number of bathrooms, plenty of space for bike/pram storage/drying boots/clothes etc. and great amenities nearby.
Little things too like having plenty of large pots and pans and enough glasses for everyone, which we have found often missing in places we have rented previously, was a pleasant surprise and added to the overall excellent experience.
Thank you for an excellent holiday.
We booked this at the last minute, and were not sure what to expect, but Peter made us feel very comfortable from the time I called him for an enquiry.
The accommodation is a fabulous beach side cottage, with fantastic views. The drive from Edinburgh via Fort William was amazing. Isle of Mull is a beautiful place to wind off and relax... Tobermory is very close by and so is the beautiful Calgary Bay...
The property itself is well equipped and decorated to a high standard.
Thanks again Peter for the wonderful stay we had.
I work for a charity in Edinburgh and we spent two days here for a planning away day. It was absolutely perfect and worth every bit of the journey from Edinburgh. The views are spectacular, the setting is a perfect mix of being away from it all while also being close to shops and restaurants in Salen and Tobermorry. I'm looking into not only future work-related stays here but also potential future holidays too.
What a place to unwind at Salen Pier House, isle of Mull. From our extremely comfortable living room with the expanse view of the Sound of Mull and its constant changing vista it was not difficult to just sit back, relax and chill out. Passing boats, yatchs and wild life kept our company of 10 people amused over the week. The elusive otters finally made an appearance on our last day for those that were around at 8 oclock in the morning.
We particularly enjoyed our group meals at the house where there was ample room for us all around the table in the conservatory.
The restored Pier was a regular meeting place of an evening, for us amature fisherman to throw a line in to catch Mackeral. Quiet exciting, especially when using a light trout rod with 6 feathers.
Our two black labs say they also enjoyed their stay, especially the walks along the coast to the pub.
A re visit is on the cards.
This property is first class, plenty of space and absolutely outstanding views.Saw dolphins, seals, otters, gannets and that is just from the window. The pier is an amazing place to sit and watch the world go bye,and I even tried some fishing off it and caught mackerel, black coley and even a sea salmon(even if it did get away).staying here is must and Peter and Suzanne who own the property are great people.I have stayed here twice now and can't wait to go back.If anyone is thinking about staying here all I can say is you won't regret it.
Having a car is ideal to get around the island as there are some amazing places to see but there is a regular bus service to Tobermory from the village.

Mull has an airstrip 2 minutes drive from the house.
