Village House in La Palme, Nr. Narbonne, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Historic Old Village

Located just 400 metres from the centre of the charming historic village of La Palme, this 200 year old house has recently been completely renovated and modernised. It's modest facade belies the extensive accommodation within.

Entering into a large Hallway you will see a fully fitted modern Kitchen with a large bright window overlooking the street. The kitchen has a large Fridge Freezer, Electric Oven, Gas Hob, Dishwasher, Microwave Oven and even a Gaggia Espresso Maker. Particularly well equipped with Cooking Utensils and all manner of kitchen gadgets.

Also off the entrance hall is found a large bathroom with double size shower, ideal for showering off after a long day on the nearby beach. Next to the Bathroom is a separate Laundry with washing machine and laundry sink.

A set of Double doors lead to the very large Lounge /Dining area which has a large Dining Table, Comfortable Sofas a 46" Flat Panel TV, UK Satellite Television, DVD Player and a good library of english language books and maps.

Two Sets of double doors lead to a large terrace equipped with a large Dining Table, Chairs and Parasol. To one side of the terrace is a built in barbecue and a wood burning Pizza Oven.

From the Lower Terrace a wide staircase leads up to the garden which has a 10m x 5m Swimming Pool with Roman Steps, a Pool House with tables and chairs and a sheltered pergola to escape the intensity of the mid day sun. Sun Loungers and Cushions are also provided for the pool terrace.

Going back inside, a wide staircase leads to the first floor which has four large double bedrooms. The main bedroom at the back of the house overlooks the pool and has an En-suite with separate shower and bath

The second large bedroom also overlooks the pool and had a large double and single bed

Bedrooms Three and Four are to the front of the house and are each equipped with two single beds.

The final room on this floor is the family bathroom.

All bed linen is provided as are Beach Towels and Bath Towels.

This is the second time we have stayed and this time my son and partner came along. They were blown away with the house as we were the first time we stepped through the front door.

The house is wonderful and supplies you with everything you will need for a self catering holiday. The pool was used everyday with the weather being so warm.

The village is a great location to get out and about in the area.

Valerie and Dominque the cleaner and pool man are so lovely and will always try and encourage a little conversation in French.

The trouble you will have is actually going somewhere else, because the house is so perfect for your stay , that anything else you look at doesn't match up.

A holiday to remember

The entire package offered at this house was fantastic.

Beautifully renovated, furnished and equipped. We were more than happy with our initial short stay in February last year, and actually went back for a longer stay later in the season.

There is a Beautiful swimming pool 10 metres by 5, so everyone can cool down have a bit of fun and then dry off on the brilliant sunny decks all around the pool, or simply sit in the shaded area at the end of the pool enjoying all the antics..

Now if you are into pizzas you have two options here. In season there is a little pizza place that do great pizzas. And there is a full scale wood fired pizza oven .... ok it takes a while to heat up, but its an event that everyone can observe, work up an appetite in the evenings with a few glasses of wine and savour the home made pizzas.....

The house is on a very quiet street, but in the centre of the town. A bakery for the traditional french start to the day. Chemist, small grocery shops, newsagents, a lovely restaurent ( super value at lunch time with their menu du jour, and reasonable prices at night. Really , all essential facilities are to hand. If you feel like hanging out with the local observers of life passing by, join the folks on the stone bench outside the tourist office.

There is a beautiful wine cave 50meters from the house, with a number of others in close proximity.

There are plenty of walks in the countryside directly beside the house, and in the general area. There are some lovely beaches nearby in leucate and lafranqui, and portlanouvelle, offering both swimming , sailboarding and kite surfing. Hire a bike in Barcares Village and spend a few hours pottering around the beaches and ports there - all easy cycling.

The general hinterland into the corbieres offers some great drives and visits to the cathar castles. And if you are a really keen cyclist, this is the place for you.... the tour de france has been around these hills warming up for the really big climbs.

There are plenty of restaurants in the nearby towns, and good quality supermarkets in Sigean and Port la Nouvelle. For the kids of course there is even a Macdonalds in Sigean, but you are not going to France for that are you ????

For the tiny ones, there is a little playground near the house, and also a small lake beside the old windmill where the ducks are waiting to be fed with those bits of bread that you resisted eating at breakfast.

All in all, a great place to go. Go enjoy

Best House in a perfect place

This house was an amazing find for a week away with my family. We just stayed here for a week and would go back every year if we could. The house offered all amenities you could ask for and the cleanliness standard was impeccable. There was 6 of us staying here ranging in ages from the late sixties to early twenties and we all found the house and surrounding areas offered something we all liked.

You are located in a lovely French village with enough bakeries and shops to keep you going and it’s only a 15 minute drive to a lovely seafront with a spectacular beach and lots of lovely bars and restaurants.

If you didn’t want to take the drive you have enough in the house to keep you entertained. The indoors is fully equipped with lots of bedrooms, fully fitted kitchen, tv/living room and indoor dining room. Outside you have an amazing big pool area with room for sunbathing and shade with a BBQ area and outside dining table. Perfect house for a great getaway!

Perfect French Escape

This house was an ideal location from which to base a two week holiday. It is located in a truly French village with little-or-no tourist trappings. It makes it easy to pick up the French habit of wandering out on each sun blessed morning to buy fresh bread and pastries.

The house is excellently equipped and is a cooks' dream. The outdoor BBQ and pizza oven are fun and social, and close to the eating area. The kitchen has every gadget you could wish for.

We travelled as two families of four and found the house very spacious. My son loved the gecko-spotting in the evenings, my daughter lived in the pool, the teenagers appreciated the speedy wi-fi, and the adults appreciated the great wine store just two doors away. The bookshelves are well stocked with travel information and popular books.

The pool is cleaned daily and basks in sun for most of the day. I really appreciated beach towels being available with the house and not having to pack them or pay extra for the luxury.

It's a 10-15 min drive to the beach and there are lots of tourist trails that are within reach - Narbonne, Canal du Midi, Carcassonne, water parks, the Yellow Train (into the Pyrenees), and lots of fortresses and castles.

We had a wonderful holiday and the peace and space of this house helped that.

Special interest holidays:

The Garrigue (Wilderness area) around La Palme provide excellent walking with many marked trails. The Etang de La Palme, a shallow sea lagoon is the ideal venue for Windsurfing and Kite Surfing. There are a number of schools where you can take lessons and hire equipment.


La Palme boasts it's own large sandy beach which is never crowded. During the summer you can drive right on to the beach. It is even possible to drive to the next town across the beach. At Port La Nouvelle (8km) there is a beautiful beach with Lifeguards on duty. Very suitable for young children. Part of the beach adjoining La Palme beach is suitable for naturist.


La Palme is well served by Budget Airlines with Airports at Perpignan (20 mins), Carcassonne (60 Mins), Beziers Cap d'Agde (30 minutes) and Girona (75 Mins). High Speed Train services run to Narbonne and Perpignan. La Palme is just 4 km from Autoroute A61. Driving from the Channel ports is possible and takes about 11 hours

Narbonne - 25 minutes

Sigean - 5 minutes

Port La Nouvelle - 5 Minutes

Spanish Border - 30 Minutes

La Palme is well provided with basic shopping. There are a number of bakeries, two grocery stores, a Newsagent, Chemist, Florist and Hairdresser. Large Supermarkets are available at Port La Nouvelle (8km) SuperU and Sigean (8km) Intermarche. There are very large Commercial Centres in Perpignan and Narbonne
