Recently refurbished to a very high standard using locally reclaimed wood in it's interior, this detached stone cottage is a rural delight. The split-level 1 bed cottage has an en suite wetroom upstairs where the bedroom opens on to a private decked balcony with full use of the higher garden. Downstairs is a modern, light and spacious living area with a modern fitted kitchen featuring all mod cons, dining area and lounge area with wall mounted flat screen TV and a leather sofa bed. We are in a peaceful rural location surrounded by wonderful countryside. As we are located close to the A30 there is easy access to the rest of Cornwall including its stunning coastline and also to Devon with its chocolate box villages.

Having spent most of my adult life in Las Vegas learning all about the restaurant/hospitality industry i moved to London in 2005 where i met my wife and when we were lucky enough to have our daughter 2 years later we decided to leave the rat race behind and follow our dream. Tracey is a Westcountry girl so we returned to her roots and fell in love with the rugged countryside and stunning coastline of North Cornwall. We haven't looked back and feel blessed to be able to live in this magical part of the country. We have found the best possible area to fully indulge our passion, food !

Another Great Stay at Liberty Barn

This is our 2nd stay at Liberty Barn and again thoroughly enjoyable and very well looked after. The welcome hamper was even better than last time and that's saying something. The cottage was again lovely and clean, well presented, warm and cozy, full of linen, cutlery and everything you'd need for a week away in Cornwall.

It's in a fantastic location with lots of beaches and other attractions less than an hour away, you'll be hard pressed to find such a lovely holiday cottage, with such fantastic owners for the price and dog walks on your door step.

The best compliment I can pay to Mark and Tracey is that the dogs are just as relaxed as they are when we're at home (thats a rareity) and that whenever we're there we just want to pick the cottage up and move it into our Village.

Thank You Mark and Tracey for another great stay, we will return soon. :)

The feel and ambience of this place is absolutely overwhelming, you can only experience the overall special atmosphere by being there.

Beautifully converted cottage!

We stayed here with our puppy for a week and didn't want to leave! The cottage has everything you could wish for and was spotlessly clean and well cared for. The owners Mark & Tracey couldn't have been more welcoming and are truly great hosts! We will definitely be returning to take advantage of the location and to sample more of Mark's very tasty food!!

A hidden gem

Just back from 5 days in Mark and Tracey's gorgeous barn conversion. We have unpacked and put away our bits and pieces, but we haven't put away our memories of a fantastic stay. It really is a home from home......you know how you look at some listings online and your heart sinks at the decor and furnishings....yes, awful isn't it. Well, your heart soars when you see the inside of the barn! Think rustic chic - homely with a contemporary vibe. It's obvious that Mark and Tracey have put heart and soul into making guests feel good. The welcome goodies were just what we needed for breakfast - Cornish coffee, tea, milk, Cornish butter and free range local eggs and preserves and fudge. An excellent location for exploring the whole of Cornwall. It was lovely, after a day out, to come back to the cottage and chill out. It will be even better when the planned woodburner is installed.

We loved the beaches and coves - but beware, dogs are banned from many beaches until 1st October, at the end of the busy season. However, we have never seen so many dogs - Cornwall is so dog friendly, so our cocker, Ellie, had a great time too.

Mark cooked us a superlative 5 course dinner on our last night - it was restaurant quality of the highest order. We can't recommend his cooking highly enough. Some of the produce was from his own garden and some from trusted local producers and suppliers with whom he has a great relationship. Our food was seasonal, conceived with care and flair and cooked and presented with love and attention to detail. It was one of the best meals we have EVER had! Please do sample dinner (or breakfast) - it's a family affair with Tracey and 8 year old Dexter bringing the food over to you in the cottage and explaining what's on the plate. Big shout out to Dex who reeled off at least 12 ingredients on our appetiser platter.

If you get the chance to eat at Coombeshead Farm - just 2 miles away - it's an experience you won't forget. Mark supplies veggies to chef Tom Adams (nose to tail cooking of Pitt Cue fame). You mingle in the kitchen of the fantastic farmhouse, watching the cooking and chatting with fellow diners - most are foodies down from London - before eating together at a long dining table. Well-judged informal meets cutting edge cooking. They are so very cool.

Both Mark's cooking and Tom Adam's cooking were such high points of our stay and will draw us back again.

We love it here

This was our third stay at Liberty Barn Cottage. We had an amazing time. This was not only because of the beautiful cottage and very nice scenery but also because of the hosts. They are lovely people who make you feel right at home.

We certainly plan tot return again!

From the Owner

The cottage sits adjacent to our home and in gardens of about 3/4 acre. We were drawn to this area for it's peaceful rural location but with easy access to amenities, beaches, rugged countryside walks and the ability to get to a bigger town if the need for retail therapy grabs you ! Bodmin Moor, steeped in history is right on our doorstep. We are also just off the A30 so the perfect location to explore further in to Cornwall or Devon, just across the border !

Activity and Interests


We are 23 miles from the nearest coastline which takes us about 30 mins to drive to. They really are worth it. Our nearest, Trebarwith Strand, is a wonderful dog friendly, family beach with coffee shops and a pub on the cliffs overlooking the beach and providing spectacular views !


The nearest airports to us are Newquay (45 mins) or Exeter (1 hour). The nearest train stations are Plymouth (40 mins) or Exeter (1 hour).

Either way we recommend that you have use of a car as it is essential for touring the area.


Our nearest village, Lewannick is 1.5 miles away. It has a church, fantastic child's play area, village hall and fabulous shop/off licence/post office which stocks great fresh local produce and good wines.

Further Details:

The nearest big town is Launceston where you will find big supermarkets, Banks and a pharmacy.

We have a few good food pubs within 5 miles of us. If you are looking for restaurants you can find fine dining in Plymouth (40 mins) or Exeter (1 hour) or Newquay (45 mins) where you will find Jamie Olivers Fifteen.

Plenty of accessible beaches.

Wonderful walks on our doorstep, steeped in history.

Shopping can be found in Plymouth, Tavistock, Exeter.

If you like antiques try Lostwithiel (25 mins)

Port Isaac, Tintagel (25 mins) for rugged beauty.

Lanhydrock House (20 mins)

Cothele House (30 mins)

Plenty to keep the children amused.

Launceston has a steam railway. The Lawrence House Museum and Launceston Castle are well worth a visit.

Food is our passion. We grow our own fruit/vegetables and have daily fresh eggs from our chickens. Cornwall provides us with the best seafood/free range meat in the country and we use this to the best of our ability to appeal to our customers in a diverse exciting manner. If you want to have a self catering vacation, that's fine, the kitchen is well equipped with all mod cons. You could choose bed and breakfast and we will prepare a continental or full English breakfast using the best locally sourced produce. Alternatively we can provide occasional catering. Just contact us beforehand to discuss. We are here to make your holiday memorable.

  • Notes on accommodation: Wifi is available. Outside: The bedroom door opens on to a private decked balcony with wooden table and chairs. There is also a BBQ and 2 recliners. From the balcony you have full use of the higher garden where we have extensive lawn, large vegetable plot and chicken run. The gate at the top leads on to a footpath which you can follow up to the top fields where you get fantastic panoramic views over Cornwall and towards Devon. Utility Room: you will find an iron/ironing board, hoover, hair dryer all at your disposal Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. They are changed once a week.
