Secluded Finca With Private Swimming Pool, Terraces And Magnificent Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 22-Oct-2016
Finca located on Spain's River Ebro - Quiet and relaxing rural location

Situated 30 minutes from the beaches of the Costa Dorada upstream from the Ebro Delta is El Figueral perched high up in the valley overlooking the river. In 2005 we started converting the original house, retaining much of its old charm while modernising and expanding the living area with open plan living space. This is the “real Spain” away from the high rises and crowded beaches of the Costa’s, where you can sample Spanish hospitality and cuisine at its best. If you move away from the pool and don’t go to the beach the surrounding area is ideal for rambling, golf, cycling, bird watching and fishing (we have our own private access to the river). Visit the local caves, take a boat trip, kayak down the river from Mirovet, or chill out in one of the many bars or restaurants in the riverside village of Benifallet. Either we, David and Angeles or Eloi will be there to meet you and introduce you to El Figuerals amenities and will be on hand with help and advice throughout you stay.

About the Owner

My wife Angeles comes from Valencia and is a teacher of A level psychology, I run a radio communication company and have been in this industry since 1982. We Purchased the Finca El Figueral in 2004 and have transformed the original 902m farm house into its present 3002m open living accommodation that overlooks the stunning river Ebro valley for our family that consists of 5 boys. We spend our time between El Figueral and the UK. We love the local village life and the seclusion of El Figueral.

Wilson, Leanne, Connor and Vincent: Date 14/04/14, Australia:

The Villa was brilliant and pool views amazing. Quiet and relaxing, but being geologists we found the location and property very interesting so made many walking excursions and the village restaurants did not disappoint either. Service from Juan and Vanina was excellent. Thanks for a great holiday and we will be recommending to our friends and family.

Sharon, Desmond and Alex: Date 02.06.14, UK:

Good Evening David and Angeles,

Just a line to say we had a fantastic time at your Summer Home in Benifallet.

Although remote we felt that this was the jewel in the crown and we had a perfect relaxing holiday.

The weather was lovely and we really enjoyed the kayaking and canoeing on the Ebre.

We toured caves, padi fields in the Delta and went go-karting in LLieda but to mention a few of our trips out.

Took your advice and restaurants were great!

We also found another remote+++ Restaurant; the next turn left on the main road after Carpe Diem, and 4 km down a windy road bingo - What a place!! Super food and service.

Juan(who loves English Tractor Magazines!) and Vanina were super and on call for our every need. The only call we had to make was to see if we could get hot water, totally our fault had we waited another few seconds the call would have been alleviated.

Mariana: Date: 11.04.12, UK: We are very happy with the service. Vanina and Juan were very, very good and very helpful all the time. We will definitely recommend to all our friends.

Bearelle: Date 01.09.12, Norway: The Holiday was very nice! A very beautiful house and nice pool. Very friendly people, Juan & Vanina. We had a splendid time in a very beautiful area. Thanks

Petra: Date 22.09.12, Finland: We loved the pool and the whole Finca. The holiday was absolutely brilliant for all of us and was very tranquil

JA Frantishe: Date 08.10.12, Holland: We had a great time at your beautiful house! Thanks for everything. Looking forward to coming back for a second time.

A fine property in a beautiful and peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

El Figueral is well appointed and spacious inside, although we spent most of our time outside. It is high above the river with broad, sweeping views of the water and the agriculture on the other side. Very secluded and relaxing, with a great pool, and we were very well looked after by Eloi.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely holiday. Incredibly peaceful, stunning position overlooking the river, lovely pool which was well taken care of daily. We canooed on the river, fished (didn't catch anything but then we are amateurs), went to the beach, cooked on the barbq, amongst other activities....and star gazed lying in the pitch black by the pool...shooting stars every night and millions of stars. Amazing. David and Angeles have a fab house and I would love one day to return.

Rural Spain at it's finest.

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 10 gathering to celebrate a significant birthday so expectations were high. The birthday girl's heart's desire was to laze by a pool in beautiful surrounding and this finca ticked all the boxes. The view from the pool area, high above the river, is truly spectacular, particularly at sunset. I photographed the view from every angle possible and have already framed photographs to remind me of happy times. It was also fascinating to look down at activity on and around the river through the binoculars which the owner has made available at the finca.

The property itself is very well equipped- we ate at home every evening as one of our number is an exceptional cook- fantastic paella, all the ingredients purchased at the local supermarket. Late night watching DVDS from a very well stocked library- Twelve Angry Men enjoyed by all. Shutters on all windows and guaranteed silence at night meant we all slept really well. Breakfast outside on a gorgeous patio after an early morning swim.

There are some lovely local beaches although we preferred to be poolside. Still playing ball at 9pm with the pool lit up as it got dark and the water like a warm bath.

We followed the recommendations of our host for some late lunches in the local village- Sunday's lunch started at 4pm. Great food, excellent value. Cava Thursday at another local restaurant was properly celebrated followed by a riverboat trip passing our ' home' looking spectacular from below.

We joined the party for a week only, the birthday girl and her husband were lucky enough to spend a fortnight and founds lots to explore in the area though if , like us, your main aim is to hunker down in a beautiful place, cook, eat delicious food, drink great wine, this property is perfect in every way. It helped of course that temperatures were in the 30s every day and not a cloud in the sky.

Great property, with stunning views and beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

Just back from spending 2 weeks in this lovely home. We were 2 families sharing and we had everything we needed, with plenty of space for everyone. This home was well equipped for a large family and we loved swimming in the pool with great views across the hills and river. So glad we opted for this property, and

Benigallet is a beautiful village. We sampled the hospitality in the Casel (great prices) enjoyed a 3 hour 'lunch' at a local restaurant recommended by David and Angela, which was great value at 12 euro's per head, and a lovely evening in Rosa Mari's. Everyone was so friendly and happy to help us translate in our broken Spanish. Nothing was too much trouble for Elio, who looked after the property and us. We will miss those stunning views

Espectacular

  • 5 of 5

Pasamos unos días mi mujer, yo, y unos amigos.

Location

From the Owner

About El Figueral: Between 2003 and 2004 we were looking for a very unique rural property with access to the River Ebro to indulge my passion for fishing, what we found and fell in love with was El Figueral. An 80,000m2 finca on the banks of the River Ebro growing mandarins and peaches with an old 90m2 farmhouse on two floors. A farm house has stood on this location for over 400 years and provided front line accommodation with magnificent views for the International Brigade during the Spanish civil war! Intending to move to Spain we set about reconstructing the farmhouse retaining as much of its old charm as we could while adding some 210m2 of additional modern comfortable living space with pool and outside patios for us to enjoy the outside living that the Spanish climate affords

For the energetic there is cycling, golf, walking, kayaking, exploring and more. It is surrounded by history and for those who want to enjoy the sun, Mediterranean smells, food and wine of real Spain this is an ideal location. Our keholders can advise on all things relating to your stay and even direct you to restaurants you would normally need a compass and map to find but serve amazing Spanish or international menus.

The property is positioned on the remains of an old Farm house dating back around 300 years and enduring the odd fire and being a forward look out post for the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil war. Opposing armies camped on either side of the Rio Ebro during the "Batalla del Ebro" indeed; the masia suffered damage from artillery fire. Thankfully it is now repaired and with a few modern necessities like mains electricity, water and swimming pool! If you are interested in the history of the civil war visit the historical town of Amposta 40 min drive away as it was the centre of the battle.

15 min drive is Miravet, with buildings rising from the river it is one of the most picturesque villages of the region, with a long history and art heritage: the Majestic Templar Castle, the Old Church, watermill, shipyard, pottery and one of the last fluvial ferries the "Paso de la Barca". The ferry crosses the river using only the rivers current. Enjoy wine?, The Terra Alta, a most picturesque area’s produces strong full-bodied white and full-bodied reds using Macola, Garnatxa Negra and Gartnaxa peluda grapes. Visit the beautiful "wine cathedral" of Pinell de Brai, Cèsar Martinell’s most beautiful modernist cooperative building. This is the area were Picasso started out on one of his most fruitful stages, cubism, in the village of Horta de Sant Jo

Facilities

From the Owner

We love El Figuerals isolated location sitting high up looking down the steep sides Ebro valley. It’s close to the friendly riverside village of Benifallet with its typical Spanish bars and restaurants and is within easy reach of the many small fishing villages and beaches of the Costa Dorada to us it’s the best of both Spanish worlds.
