About Eric Despalin

Eric and kathrine moved back to France in 2003 after 7 years in London. They fall in love with Brittany and bought a traditional stone built cottage in 2009.

Eric is very passionated by renovation of old stone built cottage. Now they offer their house to holiday makers and hoping that the charm of Brittany will do the same on the holiday makers.

Eric and kathrine are bi-lingual.

Eric Despalin purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Eric Despalin chose Cotes d'Armor

We fall in love with Brittany because the costs are beautiful yet very wild and also the medival towns are very impressive.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"This was our first family holiday to France and we were not disappointed, Eric & Katherine made us feel very welcome and have done a fantastic job modernising the gite. we loved the rural location but also the variety of places to visit and things to do, a lot of which we would not have known about if Eric & Katherine hadn't been so friendly and helpful. We only wish we had stayed longer and we will definetly be returning in the future." James, Claire & Aaron from Glasgow.

"Thank you both for your excellent hospitality. You went out of your way to make our stay really lovely and relaxed." Lesley & Kenny from Edinburgh.

The accomodation was very comfortable everything that made the stay great for us. Beautiful surroundings."Joe & Shona from Jersey.

"The gite is situated in a peaceful quiet area yet only 30-45 mins from the stunning coastline of Brittany. It has been refurbished to a nordern, tasteful & high standard. Hope to be back." Eddie, Jayne, Liam & Shawn from York

Amazing location and fantastic hosts

The cottage is maintained to a high standard with fantastic facilities and exactly as the photo's - such comfy beds! Location is rural and you do need to travel but this comes with benefits of a relaxing environment.

Cannot fault the property.

Katherine and Eric were perfect hosts - and were there for any help and advice-.thank you.

Would highly recommend if you want to get away from it all.

Being so close to Dinan (20 mins) and other places it is an ideal place to explore from.

Great feature property with all the modern a essentials you need!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed her for 1 week and it was fantastic. We had great weather so we're able to use the pool everyday. This was great as we has small children with us. The house was beautifully finished with all the modern equipment you would need. Especially in the kitchen, the only thing we couldn't fine was a cheese grater :) The owners were very friendly and checked in on us half way through. The location is very rural - extreamly quiet which was perfect for us!

We would defiantly recommend this place for other people looking for a similar holiday.

Thank you Eric and Katherine

Simply fabulous .....

What a gorgeous property we were four generations on holiday together mums, dads, children, grandparents and a great grandparent and we all had a fantastic time. We went the first week of August and we had a mixed bag of weather good weather at the beginning and end of our stay where we went to the beautiful beaches only about 30 minutes away. That said the pool was used every single day by the children they absolutely loved it and it made the holiday for the children.

The property is delightful as are the owners Eric and Katherine they live next door but are not intrusive but there if you need them, we had some lovely chats with them about much and in particular the surrounding area. The property is very well equipped and is a home from home we enjoyed family meals around the big kitchen table and bbq's outside it was perfect. The renovation of the property is proper quality and we all appreciated it.

The location is perfect you are rural so it's a countryside home and peaceful (except when our children were all in the pool splashing and playing 😊) but at the same time you are not far away from a supermarket and some villages. Dinan is only 15 mins away and we fell in love with it, everything about it is special the history, buildings, walks and the port. The walk around the cliffs and along the coastline of Dinard is wonderful amd the beach that Eric recommended was spot on Saint Cast le Guildo we even did windsurfing and ate at the restaurant Le Knells on the beach and drunk Breton cider out of cups wonderful.

Eric and Katherine you were dream hosts with a dream property thank you so much, we will be back!

Perfection! A simply stunning cottage/farmhouse in a wonderful peaceful rural location.

  • 5 of 5

Where to start... Eric and Katherine (the owners) are two of the loveliest people you will meet in France. They are only too pleased to go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. From the very generous welcome pack and champagne (as it was our honeymoon), baguettes in the morning or a social chat when passing, this couple are real gems.

The house itself is simply stunning. The large kitchen dinning room has everything you could wish for and more, so no need to bring your little home comforts with you. A handy utility room can also be found with a washing machine and sink etc. The lounge has satellite TV, dvd/blue ray player, stereo and a great range of books to read. It also has a lovely wood burning stove should you need it ( temperatures reached 36 degrees while we were staying so it wasn't required!). The lounge also has a spinning bike should you feel the erge to burn a few calories... The first floor is amazing, 3 beautiful large bedrooms fit for royality. Then up to the second floor for a jaw dropping bedroom, dressing room and ensuite.

The grounds are ample, plenty of space to kick a football throw a fresbie or simply just have fun. The pool is devine. We asked Eric to turn the temperature up a little so our young daughter could use it (30 degrees, she's only little...). But the best part has to be sitting outside watching the sun set whilst having a bbq and some local wine at night, then outside again for breakfast in the morning as the sun is starting to warm up.

The local area is absolutely perfect for cyclists, runners or walkers. Miles and miles of countryside with hardly a car to be seen! A supermarket is only 10 mins away by car. Dinan can be reached in 20 mins and is simply beautiful to explore. St Malo and Dinard are only 45mins and well worth a visit, especially the beaches of st malo. Cherbourg ferry terminal is only 2.5 hrs away.

To quickly summarise, we fell in love with this house, the location, the features everything. We would be happy to recommend this property to all ages young and old, couples, families anyone... It has it all. We can't wait to return in the future.

Matt, Melissa and Darcey.

Owner's Response: Hi Matt, thank you very much for that really kind review, that is more than enough and we don't deserve all of that! Well... Yes actually, we do in fact! :))) as we worked really hard on that renovation project and now that is a real pleasure to share the result with people who know how to appreciate it. We will be really pleased to have you around here again, maybe next year with a 2nd baby???...

Eric and Katherine have created a delightful home from home full of character and charm.

  • 5 of 5

From baby to grandparents and all in between, we loved every minute of our two week stay in this house. Eric and Katherine are two genuine lovely people who made our family so welcome and made every effort to make our stay a success. The setting of the house is just what we hoped for - peaceful, rural countryside close to places of interest, villages, towns and amenities. We will always remember the joy of strolling along the surrounding lanes, birdsong and wildflowers all around in unspoilt, timeless, countryside. We left feeling sad the holiday was over and hoping that in the future we would be back - the best proof of a successful stay!

Beautiful cottage in quiet rural situation but within easy reach of interesting attractions.

  • 5 of 5

Eric and Catherine went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and this lovely cottage was ideally situated for our group to explore this region of Brittany by motorcycle. The pretty village of Yvignac-la-Tour, some 4 km away had a post office, bar and patisserie and the super market at Broons 20 minutes ride away provided all the provisions and fuel for our stay. The beautiful walled medieval town of Dinan (20 minutes ride) was stunning with its old buildings and narrow streets was well worth the visit and the Saturday market at Dinard and coastal path walk was enjoyable too. We only stayed for 5 days but would love to return to explore the region further.

The cottage itself was beautifully clean and well equipped and the owners provided a very friendly welcome and much help and advice. We would not hesitate to recommend it to others and return ourselves.

Many thanks to Eric and Catherine.
