About this property

Renovated country house nestled in the glorious mountains of Lierganes

La Ultima Casa is situated high in the mountains at the end of a winding road. This beautiful 'cabaña' has been renovated to preserve the original 300 year old 'pasiego' style whilst providing high quality, eco-friendly living facilities. In the remote, unspoilt hills of Cantabria with magnificent, panoramic views, the house overlooks the village of Liérganes with the sea in the distance. It has it's own mountain spring water and solar panel. Sleeps up to 12 people with four bedrooms, one en suite, for eight people, two reception rooms each with a double bed settee. The main reception room has a wood burning stove for cosy evenings. The kitchen and dining room are spacious and well supplied. There is a main bathroom and a downstairs toilet. Full gas central heating. The garden includes a large graveled area and our own surrounding fields. There are games for children and adults: indoor board games and puzzels and for playing outside there is table tennis (although the table is a bit rickety and needs to be put up very carefully), bats and balls, kite etc.

You will need a good car or ideally a 4x4 and to be a confident driver as the house is located up a 5km mountain road that becomes a track for the last 2km. The road has recently been repaired by the local council.

We have had a few visitors who have caused damage, nuisance and lack of respect for the countryside. So we now will not accept bookings from groups of young people for parties.

Lierganes: A medieval spa town. Lierganes is rich in history with it's traditional stone architecture, the legend of Hombre Pez, Balneario spa treatments, the River Miera, the paps of Lierganes and plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants.

Beaches: Large, small, urban, rural, quietly enclosed or open to the Cantabrian Sea: all of them have fine white sand, crystal clear water and a certain something.

Strategic location to visit Cantabria and relax
Even though last stretch to access the house (1km) is rough, once you get there, you have amazing views to the mountains and can relax in an outstanding environment! The house is fully equipped, and the owners reacted very quickly to a suggestion we made. Additionally, the location of the house is perfect to visit historical sites and beautiful medieval villages that are less than 30-40 min away. A must see for this area to visit are " Soplao Caves". Don't miss them! They are unique!!!

Maravilloso, y espero volver

We were teachers but now have a microbrewery in Kent. Between doing the two we spent a year and half renovating this beautiful cabaña and in doing so hoped to learn to speak Spanish. We had a wonderful time and some great local people.
