About the Owner

We moved from Surrey to Herefordshire in 2006. We had come to know and love the area well over previous years visiting friends. The Old Rectory, Stoke Prior, a former church house is our home. We have spent a great deal of time and energy renovating our house, creating a new garden and arboretum - a never ending labour of love whilst also tending our walled vegetable garden and small vineyard. With other treats, a bottle of our own professionally made white wine awaits your arrival.

In 2012 we embarked on the project to renovate our coach house into a luxury, first floor, self-catering apartment. We are extremely proud that, in November 2012, The Coach-House was awarded a 5 STAR Gold Award rating from Quality in Tourism. We have received a 5 STAR Gold Award for the subsequent 2 years and our current award is valid until November 2015

We look forward to welcoming you.

The best place ever

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful experience! The setting is glorious and the cottage is sublime. Gill and Peter are friendly and helpful hosts. This is by far the best place we have ever rented - everything has been done to such a high standard. Thank you so much for this glimpse of a nicer way and nicer place to live.

Owner's Response: We moved from Surrey to Herefordshire 9 years ago. We delight in the peace, tranquility and pastoral beauty of our adopted county. It is a great pleasure to us that guests who stay at THE COACH HOUSE are equally enthralled. This couple from Berkshire stayed 3 nights and we very much hope to welcome them again in the future. Whatever the season, Herefordshire is well worth exploring. Thank-you for taking the time to post your review. Gill & Peter

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in a lot of accommodations over the years, and this one stands out as exceptional. Even the pickiest of guests will find little to fault in this superb property. The building itself is thoroughly clean, well finished, well equipped, and very tranquil. The surrounding gardens and rural views ooze with natural beauty and peacefulness. The Coach House is a real gem and certainly deserves its 5-star rating. Gill and Peter were the perfect hosts, friendly and helpful when required, yet allowing us all the space needed to lose ourselves in the quiet.

Owner's Response: We were delighted to welcome this family from Montreal with their three year old daughter. She enjoyed feeding our flock of Indian Runner ducks which live on our upper pond. The Coach House 5 acre grounds and gardens are available to guests to enjoy and explore affording rural peace and tranquility. The Coach House is designed to allow modern luxury living within a Victorian building which offers spacious accommodation and glorious views over the surrounding countryside from the first-floor terrace and triple-aspect living area. We do hope to welcome this family again when Herefordshire beckons. Thank-you for your very positive comments. Gill & Peter

Hard to beat for a brilliant stay.

  • 5 of 5

An absolute hidden treasure ,with all the necessary facilities for your stay. It's very peaceful, being away from road noises, yet centrally positioned for sightseeing. The property is next to the owners home, who are most friendly and attentive for your stay.

A very nice welcome pack of goodies awaits you..the 5 star grading is well deserved.. Janet & Roy

Owner's Response: The surroundings to THE COACH HOUSE are indeed truly rural and all visitors remark upon the peace and quiet. It is the perfect location to get away from it all. If you feel like exploring all the county has to offer we offer a convenient and central location. Our welcome basket is full of local produce including items from our own garden. We hope to welcome Janet & Roy again in the future and thank them for their kind words. Gill & Peter.

Peaceful weekend

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely property in a peaceful setting. There is lots to see & do in the area if you want to explore, including National Trust properties, Ludlow, Hay on Wye all within a short distance. There are some good places to eat out (also a short drive) & a nice pub within easy walking distance which might be serving food again now. The Coach House is also well equipped if you want to cook yourself. A real home from home. I had fun following the various footpaths & there are also lots of good walks in the area. If you like plants also visit Wall End nursery which is a short walk away (but limited opening hours). This is a really lovely place & we hope to go back & explore more. Also to kayak along more of the River Wye which we really enjoyed despite the rain. Finally, a big thankyou to Gill & Peter for their suggestions of things to do, places to eat, walks to do & maps to get to places too.

Owner's Response: Very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that you enjoyed the facilities on our doorstep as well as travelling in and around the county. T3 Plants are certainly worth a visit - they were awarded a Silver at Chelsea at their first attempt. If guests would like to visit the nursery we can always make an appointment for them. This 3 night stay allowed for a taster of what the county has to offer - our 4 guests making the very most of their time despite rather gloomy weather. We will certainly hope to tempt you back again in the not too distant future. Many thanks for your time in submitting this very positive review. Gill & Peter

Relaxing weekend break

  • 5 of 5

We had a really lovely stay in this beautiful property, which had everything we needed for a perfect weekend. The area has lots to do & see, with National Trust properties, Hay-on-Wye (great kayaking), Ludlow, good places to eat out, everything you need for cooking to eat in. Peaceful for just lazing around & lots of footpaths to investigate. A big thankyou to Gill & Peter too, for directions, lovely wine, jam, eggs, Apple juice & chocolates !

Owner's Response: Thank-you Claire for your most positive review. There is indeed much to see and do in Herefordshire and the Shropshire borders. Travelling around the county is easy, traffic queues are a rare problem. Whilst life is more relaxed and peaceful there is interest and activities for all ages. We are delighted you enjoyed your 3 night break at THE COACH HOUSE and glad the 'goodies' were enjoyed. Kayaking is a great way to work off the chocolate calorie intake!! We hope to welcome you and your friends again in the future. Best wishes Gill & Peter

Gorgeous property, Luxurious and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights, and had a thoroughly wonderful time. The property was perfect for us (2 adults and 2 small children). Both bedrooms are lovely (one en-suite), and the large living space with its very well kitted-out kitchen was ideal for relaxing, playing games, and having our meals while we looked out the views of the countryside beyond. Our 5-year-old declared the beds "the most comfortable" he had ever slept in! Everything about the location is relaxing, and the village of Stoke Prior is perfect for a base for this part of the world - there's a welcoming village pub (The Lamb Inn) and plenty of footpaths if you're into exploring fields and rivers. The hosts are unfailingly helpful and polite and welcoming, too. We will be visiting this beautiful place again, and we're already looking forward to it!

Owner's Response: Thank-you so much for taking the time to write such a great review. It was a pleasure to welcome such a nice family with two young children who made the most of all there is to offer. Delighted also that our beds get Harry's seal of approval! We will certainly look forward to welcoming you back, perhaps we can arrange a little more sunshine next time! Kind regards Gill & Peter

Location

From the Owner

We moved to Stoke Prior after 25 years of London commuting and all that entails. We chose Herefordshire for its tranquil beauty and superb countryside. However, we are still easily able to visit friends and family in the south-east. It must be said that they usually visit us!! The sought after village of Stoke Prior has a small community but great spirit. We love walking our dogs, visiting local pubs, restaurants, antique centres and quirky shops - all of which abound. It is a joy to be able to buy and enjoy great locally produced food and grow much of our own vegetables and fruit. Whilst we have great neighbours, we see only distant glimpses of their roof tops. It is far easier to see the trees, sheep and horses in the pastures between us.
