About this property

Stunning Converted School House

Our fabulous home is extremely comfortable, and is perfect for celebrating a special occasion or just having a family holiday.

We've done everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible (including fine bed linen and fluffy towels!), and I have no doubt that you'll love it in our home, as well as our beautiful village! It's a magic spot that's far enough away from the madding crowd, but close enough to the best beaches, and the best towns. We've really got it all here. I promise that you won't be disappointed!

We have a lovely South facing garden and a private terrace which backs on to, and overlooks the park. It's perfect to let your children free, but you can keep an eye on them whilst sipping your wine from the terrace!

The house is a 2 minutes drive to a brilliant local shop, and only 10 minutes to both Truro and the coastal town of Falmouth. It is perfectly located to access both North coast and South coast beaches, and the South coast gardens - Trelissick, Glendurgen and Trebah (our fav!).

Our favourite very local things to do.... Kayaking from Mylor harbour to The Pandora where the kids love crabbing and we love crab sarnies! (we have two kayaks to use) - Jumping off the quay at Point on a hot Summer's day - Walking Kennall Vale (a beautiful historical waterfall walk) - Swimming at Chycara (a private swimming pool you can hire very cheaply).

A Cornish house to die for!
Looking for a holiday house to suit ten people was a daunting task, but we struck lucky with The Old School House in Devoran near Truro, Cornwall. That house certainly had the WOW! factor. It was a great size; open and airy and wonderful for everyone to find their own space. It was nicely decorated with lots of modern conveniences. The pleasure of sitting down at a table big enough for all of us was a great bonus. I couldn't think of a thing that was missing in that lovely kitchen. The location was good, within easy reach of both North and South coasts; close to a river and play park and, well just a short drive to everywhere! Devoran was perfect - a pretty village, with a great pub and beautiful views. The intermittent rain didn't spoil some lovely beach days and almost all of us turned out in wet suits to have a go at surfing and body boarding (not water boarding as we keep telling people!) We hired two motor boats one day and even Daisy aged 5 and Tommy aged 7 had their turns at the tiller. The problem is that now we are home, the kids think that their bedrooms are much too small! Memories
5 stars - Exceeded expectations on every level! Our family holiday is an important time to relax and enjoy and we could not have been happier with our choice. The house is HUGE, full of character and is an excellent base to explore Cornwall. Nicki has been mentioned by other reviewers, and rightly so, a welcoming and attentive host. Thanks for the memories! CH

A Week at Devoran
THis was a wonderful place for a family holdiay; there were 9 of us. The place lived up to its description in the brochure and Nicky gave us a splendid cream tea welcome. The house was immaculate with a comprehensively equipped kitchen; there was also a wealth of leaflets with information about all the attractions in the surrounding area, along with a number of very useful maps. We visited gardens, beaches, galleries and lots of other interesting places. The children enjoyed kayaking at Loe Beach! We would heartily reciommend the Old School, Devioran, as an excellent base for a wide variety of ages to explore the surrounding countryside and its many attractions.

Birthday gathering
Our family congregated at The Old School House to celebrate my wife's birthday. Our welcome from Nicky was lovely, (she bought a cake !) and set the week off to perfection, nothing beats a cup of tea and a slice of birthday cake after a long journey. The cottage, for our group of 7 adults and 3 children, had been set up perfectly, and was a great location for us to use as a family base for our week long visit. The children and grand-children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and the birthday celebrations and are already discussing our next family adventure.

About the host

My hubby (Andrew/Bez) and I (Nicky) have two fabulous children; Scarlett is 14 and George is 10. I was bought up in Cornwall, so once we had done our 10 year stint of playing and working too hard in London, we lived in New Zealand for 3 years, and then eventually returned home in 2003. Since then, we have set up various businesses, and put our hearts and soul into converting The Old School.

Devoran is a great place to live. Its location is perfect. It offers peace and tranquility, but at the same time there are lots of active things to do at our finger tips. We love swimming in the creek, kayaking, and cycling on the Bissoe trail.

We will share all our secret places with you... You'll love it!

Why they chose this property

It's light and airy, cosy and comfortable, spotless and luxurious. AND there's plenty of space inside if it's a rainy day!

What makes this property unique

It's a beautiful Victorian school! Even though we've fully modernised it inside, it still has the high Windows and the vaulted ceilings to retain an element of its original feel. We have views over the back garden, to the park, and the creek beyond.
