About the property

Picturesque Rural Setting

Situated on the edge of The Peak District National Park the Rumblings make an ideal holiday base for exploration through any means. With footpaths on the door step instead of taking the car guests can take off using their own steam. The minor road network close to the properties and further into the Peak District gives walkers and cyclist alike the perfect conditions to venture out. This coupled with the large number of rights of way crisscrossing the local valleys makes the area haven for walkers and cyclist alike.

Furnished and equipped to a very high standard, the Rumblings are ideally situated in a rural location, great for a get away from it all holiday. The pretty village of Baslow with its old stone bridge across the River Derwent and its many restaurants is only 5 miles away, as is Chatsworth House and its 1000-acre estate, magnificent gardens, farm and craft shop, children’s farmyard, play area and restaurant. Medieval Haddon Hall and Bakewell are only 10 miles. Take an underground boat trip into the Castleton caves or visit the many other spectacular caves of this region including the famous Blue John Mine where the unique Blue John Stone is mined and fashioned into beautiful jewellery. Also worth a visit is the historical plague village of Eyam and visitor centre.

Clean, spacious, lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Rumblings 2. The cottage was much more spacious than we expected, and was very clean and well presented. The owners had left a thoughtful welcome pack of milk, butter, bread etc too. Location is great for visiting Peak District. We would definitely stay here again.

Great location.

  • 4 of 5

Perfect venue for Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle, Hardwick Hall, Longshaw Estate, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Buxton, Chesterfield and Sheffield. The cottage is good but the sofas are not comfortable. The single beds appear to be 2ft 6in wide so not good for adults. The shower is an electric one rather than from the hot water system. The bench outside is ideal for removing mucky boots but being right on the driveway isn't somewhere for a sundowner, nor suitable as a children play area. However, everything else was great and we would recommend it with the above caveats.

Cosy clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 4 days. We found the cottage very clean and very comfortable. The rooms are airy and bright. They were kind enough to leave us tea/coffee and biscuits to have as well as a chilled bottle in the fridge. The price was very reasonable and the owner was quite kind and flexible on this for us.

The area is very quiet during the day and very safe for children running around. A number of footpaths nearby, too. Beautiful country.

All in all a fantastic break for us. I would like to thank them very much.

If I had to mention any negatives I would say that the sizes of the rooms were smaller than we're used to, although the kitchen/diner is a very good size. Despite plenty of open space surrounding us, the position of windows are such that the cottage doesn't take advantage of it. These are minor points, however, as we were not planning on spending much time indoors during our stay. Oh! and it wasn't very easy sleeping with all the roosters nearby waking up so early! :-)
