About the property

Picturesque Rural Setting

Situated on the edge of The Peak District National Park the Rumblings make an ideal holiday base for exploration through any means. With footpaths on the door step instead of taking the car guests can take off using their own steam. The minor road network close to the properties and further into the Peak District gives walkers and cyclist alike the perfect conditions to venture out. This coupled with the large number of rights of way crisscrossing the local valleys makes the area haven for walkers and cyclist alike.

Furnished and equipped to a very high standard, the Rumblings are ideally situated in a rural location, great for a get away from it all holiday. The pretty village of Baslow with its old stone bridge across the River Derwent and its many restaurants is only 5 miles away, as is Chatsworth House and its 1000-acre estate, magnificent gardens, farm and craft shop, children’s farmyard, play area and restaurant. Medieval Haddon Hall and Bakewell are only 10 miles. Take an underground boat trip into the Castleton caves or visit the many other spectacular caves of this region including the famous Blue John Mine where the unique Blue John Stone is mined and fashioned into beautiful jewellery. Also worth a visit is the historical plague village of Eyam and visitor centre.

What makes this cottage unique

Guestbook comments from the manager

Mr R from Crawley:

The owners were very welcoming and have paid attention to every detail making our stay feel homely from the moment we arrived. The fine touches like a beautiful Christmas tree and a present for each of the children through to the tea, coffee and even a hot kettle on arrival made for a fantastic first impression. The cottage is very cosy and had ample space for our family (2 adults and 3 kids). The games room was extremely well received by the kids, giving the adults plenty of time to enjoy the warmth of the log burner downstairs. We loved staying at 3 The Rumblings and very much look forward to staying there again.

Mr J from Bristol:

Really well appointed cottage - new fittings, lovely decor and a really nice welcome with biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar supplies - and wine! Thank you it was excellent - and lovely views from the cottage

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We hope you enjoyed your stay at The Rumblings. Many family groups of four plus a pet have stayed in this cottage numerous times with no issues raised. Sorry to hear you had problems with the stairs. This is the first time we have had a comment relating to this. As the property has been recently converted all items, including the staircase, do meet modern building regulations. Thank you once again for your comments and we hope to welcome you back to The Rumblings in the near future. Kind regards David Taylor

No. 1 is a pretty cottage in a beautiful rural setting near to Chatsworth and other key attractions in the Peaks. The cottage was very neat and clean, and the welcome package was useful.

Lovely stone cottage in a rural location ideal for dog walking

  • 4 of 5

First impressions were great. Typical stone cottage in the country. Open plan downstairs functional and well equipped with a small log burner. The owner had generously left a loaf of bread, butter, milk and a bottle of wine. A lovely touch. Bedrooms were simple with white linen and towels. The only slight annoyance was that the TV didn't work well on several of the channels and we couldn't tune in any of the BBC channels. Never mind it made us read books instead. Thoroughly recommended.
