House on Gower Peninsula/Swansea Bay, South Wales. - Tempting Choice Of Golf Nearby, Ideal For Family Holidays, Multiple Pets Are Very Welcome

Gower Edge is a comfortable and well equipped property which provided us with a happy family home until we had to move for work. We enjoy self catering holidays with our children and dog, and we have endeavoured to provide the level of accommodation that we hope to find ourselves. Previous guests have commented on the friendliness of the area and the enjoyment that they have had from the books, games and videos provided, but the most frequent comment is about the large size of the house, which gives larger groups plenty of room to spread out and relax in, with three large living areas. There is also an additional conservatory overlooking the back garden, so you really are spoiled for choice. The house is centrally placed for visiting not only the Gower, but also surrounding areas such as the Brecon Beacons, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. Many and varied activities are available on the doorstep if you can drag yourself away from the lovely beaches. Find inspiration on our website!

About the Owner

Although originally from England (Leicester and Southampton) we lived in South Wales for nineteen years, and both our children were born in Swansea. The last nine of those years were spent in Gower Edge, a house with many happy memories, in a welcoming community, and one to which we hope to return one day (having moved currently for work). We feel privileged to have lived in such a beautiful part of the country, and we hope to share some of the scenery and lifestyle with you.

When you contact us you will either speak to me (Sylvia) or Louise, who is a work colleague who also loves the area, and helps with the organisation of the letting. If you would like a fuller flavour of the area, or have specific requests for your stay we will do our best to help, so please don't hesitate to ask.

Our property used to be our family home when we lived and worked in Swansea. Both attended the local primary school in this fantastic little community of Dunvant, and we had a wonderful time in a house which has always had a very happy atmosphere. We had to move for work in 2005, but in hopes of returning one day, we decided to see if we could use the house as a holiday let. We try to keep prices reasonable to ensure the vacancy rate is low, and the local economy is supported. We have always loved the easy access onto the beautiful Gower Peninsula, combined with the convenience of living near local amenities. Swansea itself also has much to offer, with outstanding park facilities, its own very nice beach and a commitment to a festival atmosphere. We hope you will visit soon and enjoy!

Nearest Airport : Cardiff Airport at 30 Miles


Gower Edge is centrally placed to visit all the beaches on the Gower. Swansea Bay is about 10 mins by car, and about 40 minutes on foot, if you fancy a walk through Clyne Valley, following the cycle path. The closest Gower beach is Caswell Bay, which is about 12-15 mins by car, and Rhossili is at the furthest tip, which is about 30 minutes. Three Cliffs, Oxwich, Port Eynon and Langland are the best known sandy beaches to the South, with Caswell, Langland and Rhossili best known for surfing.


Cardiff Airport is about an hour away by car, and the London airports are around 3-4 hours from the region. Motorway access is via the M4 from the East and West and the M5/M50 from the North and South. A car is probably recommended, although if you are after a laid back holiday, public transport will get you out onto the Gower, and cycle hire is available locally.


Killay shopping precinct, 5 minutes. Swansea City centre, 10-15 mins. Cardiff, 40-50 mins. Carmarthen, 40 mins. Brecon Beacons, 30mins to an hour depending on destination. Pembrokshire 1-2 hr, depending on destination. All destinations on the Gower Peninsula within 30 minutes. There is a direct train line from London to Swansea.

Further Details:

So what can I say to persuade you to visit the Gower Peninsula? My first reason for feeling that little lift as I turn off at Junction 48 of the M4 is the people. Swansea folk don't take themselves too seriously, and they don't get worked up over things (although Swansea City are doing their best to overcome that!). Life is relaxed and you are free to be who you want to be; and for me, that is an excellent starting point for a holiday.

Then you have the scenery. The Gower Peninsula was the first area of outstanding natural beauty in the UK, and as someone who grew up in Southampton, I do like to be by the sea. Gower does coastline to a spectacular level (ample evidence on our Pinterest boards), and even the city of Swansea gets in on the act, with the great sweep of Swansea Bay as its southern boundary, and magical Mumbles as a full stop. Gower itself has a number of famous sandy beaches, but it's fun to explore the lesser known coves, or seek out the less visited North Gower coast where the famous Gower salt marsh lamb is farmed.

If you like a little activity, there are opportunities for surfing, fishing, climbing, coasteering, cycling and walking, to name but a few. If you want to learn something new you could try your hand at archery, chocolate making or photography. Bring your golf clubs and try out one of the many beautiful local courses or bring your binocculars and spot birds galore in the varied local habitats. When you are ready, select an evening retreat for a wonderful meal, live music or a visit to the theatre, or book your stay to coincide with one of the many festivals in the area.

The Gower is big enough to give a different experience for every day of your holiday, but small enough see all in one go from the top of Cefn Bryn, the highest point on the Gower. So maybe drive out there first, visit Arthur's Stone (a prehistoric burial mound), and make your plans with the view as the backdrop. I hope I've whetted your appetite - happy holidays!

Changeover Day:
Our normal changeover day is Friday, with an arrival time of 3.30pm. We offer 3 night weekend breaks (Fri-Mon) and 4 night midweek breaks (Mon-Fri) in all but high season. At off peak times we may be able to vary changeover days. Longer lets considered.

Notes on prices:
Please enquire for pricing on non standard changeover dates and longer term lets. We will endeavour to provide a competitive price. Our short breaks are 3 nights Fri-Mon and 4 nights Mon-Fri.

Gower Edge is convenient for all areas of the Gower, the cities of Swansea and Cardiff (40 mins), and for day trips to the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire during your stay. The property has three living rooms on the ground floor, plus a conservatory and a large secluded rear garden. This means there is plenty of room for the family to spread out and guests frequently comment on the amount of books, toys, games and videos available to keep the children amused whilst the adults chill. Louise and I have sought to provide the items which we would hope to find when we take our children on holiday. There is a convenience store a 100m from the house for your daily needs, and many more store and pub options in nearby Killay. The property has free wi-fi access.

  • Notes on accommodation: Gower Edge is a comfortable family home spread across two floors. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms and a family bathroom which includes a corner bath and separate shower. Downstairs there are three living rooms, a kitchen, conservatory and cloakroom with wc and wash hand basin. One lounge has a 32" flat screen TV with freeview and DVD player, and there is an additional TV in one of the front lounges which can be used to play the large selection of videos and DVDs at the property. The third lounge has additional comfortable seating and a dining table for 8 people. The TV lounge has patio doors through to the conservatory at the rear of the house. Again there is soft seating here, and outside there is a patio area with chairs and tables, so you can eat outside in the summer months. There is wi-fi access at the property at no extra charge, and amenities include a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier, for your convenience. Outside: The front of the house is paved with off road parking for three cars, and there is a large, secluded rear garden about 100ft in length. The garden provides shaded and sunny spots throughout the day, so you can choose a temperature to fit! Outside the conservatory there is a patio area with outdoor furniture (tables and chairs) so you can eat outside in the summer. Utility Room: The dishwasher and tumble drier are located in the conservatory, where there is also space to store, surfing equipment, bikes, walking boots etc. There is also a drying rack and the iron and ironing board are stored in the cupboard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedlinen are included in the price of the property, which is cleaned between visits by a local company (cleaning charge also included in the price). Additional beach towels are available which guests are requested to launder before leaving. Other: There is a large conservatory with comfortable seating to the rear of the property and an excellent selection of DVDs, videos, games, books and toys for your enjoyment.
